And so, my biggest fear is that based on the continuous, never ending adoption of all the new technologies coming our way, and our seeming behavior of blindly accepting every new shiny object, will we as human beings be smart enough to draw the line that keeps us from being consumed by the future AI?

At this moment in time, AI is in its infancy.  AI give you what "it thinks you want".  But it doesn't stop there.

To the degree that the data is not accurate....not clean if you will....is to the same degree that decisions based on that data analysis... are askew. IOT devices may become part of the equation to improve medical outcomes or drug treatment plans or bank loan approvals or insurance premiums...and the list goes on and on.  I’m hoping scientist use some of these technologies to shorten the time it takes to develop, test and deliver a vaccine to the masses.  It has to.  We simply can’t shut down the economy of the world every time a new virus threatens the masses.

I believe that the technologies that build on this trajectory will survive and will change our lives and our society at large, hopefully in a good way.  The ones that don’t may, at best, be a diversion, and at worst, well......Please join me in the next Episode where we will take a closer look at the trajectory of technology and how Machine Learning and AI may influence our lives and the society in which we live.

 Cloud Computing is the vehicle (it’s just the vehicle) that provides IT with the opportunity to transform how technology services are delivered to the business.  It's not about the technology of Cloud Computing.  It's about how Cloud Computing can provide for new digital technologies that in turn facilitate profitable business growth.

IT should be focused on new digital technologies. Things like IOT, Machine Learning, AI, Advanced Data Analytics and many more; technologies that make for a better, market differentiating products and services and technologies that help companies reach new target markets; technologies that promote top line business growth. Those individuals with a strong technical background as well as a good understanding on how the business operates.....man, those people are golden!  Stop having them focus on network and compute infrastructure support.  Have them focus their technology acumen on new business initiatives.

In the fields of healthcare, pharmaceuticals, banking, finance and transportation, new digital technologies will have a major impact on our lives.  But, changes will have to be made to our product and service delivery models and IT will have to transform itself in a major way in order to provide these technologies to the business.   Want to experience first hand - Digital Transformation?  Go test drive a Tesla!  How will these type of disruptive changes influence our lives in the future?

The 4th Industrial Revolution is about changing the role of IT in the Financial Framework under which all business operate.  IT as a Profit Center.  Would you rather streamline IT to save 20% of your IT budget....or would you rather use technology to change how you deliver products and services to to marketplace, change who consumes them and change how they're consumed......and grow your business by 20%?

If we're now in the 4th Industrial Revolution, what were the other 3 and what was the impact on our past and more importantly what will the impact be on our future?

After 40 years in IT, I definitely have some pet peeves around why we still use some of the technologies we do.  Internet security, or the lack thereof, is probably one of those things that is the most maddening to me.

I’m beginning this Podcast at the early stages of the world pandemic of the Corona virus (COVID-19).  While it surely is not what I thought my first episode would be about, it does bring to light how the application of new digital technologies might be used to test, diagnose and treat the virus and in a whole different area best enable the remote worker paradigm needed to keep business in operation.

I’ve been an IT Professional for over 40 years now.  As I look back over my career and all the changes that have occurred in the field of information technology, I can tell you it’s been a wild ride.  But, the sum of those experiences now gives me a unique perspective on how technology has evolved and more importantly the future directions technology will take, and how our consumption of future technologies may impact our lives and shape our future.  Will we consume more and more technology or will those same revolutionary technologies consume us?  Please join me on this episodic Podcast journey that I’m hoping will help us make smarter choices on how technology will impact, and arguably, change our lives.
