Growing Pains! How do I get everything organised in one place?!
I'm answering Kristine's question via email this week. Kristine asks: "Right now, I'm trying to manage growing pains. I have students/clients information in different locations (spreadsheets, Teachable, Mailchimp), and I want to find a centralized place to manage students' contact information securely as well as manage all the touchpoints I have had with students (lessons, communication, surveys, promotions, etc.) Can you recommend a method for achieving this? Perhaps a free or paid CRM program?" Does engaging vocab homework even exist?!
Welcome back to Teach Languages Online! I'm answering Moksee's question from the Teach Languages Online Facebook Group this week. Moksee asks: "How can I make vocabulary audio homework more interesting and engaging? I'm trying to create a vocabulary (kitchen vocab theme) audio for my students, I don't want to have it the traditional word per word translation, it's so boring, I was thinking of making it more of story instead, where students learn vocab through a story, what do you think?" What's a Fair Price to Pay Online Language Teachers?
In recent years, it’s become easier than ever for students to connect with a teacher for the language they're learning online. And as tempting as it is to opt for “Lessons from $5!”, it's time we start asking ourselves if we’re really happy charging such low fees for online language lessons. Irina Pravet: Creating an Online Program for Learners of All Levels
This episode I speak with Irina Pravet, who is one of my favourite people in the world. She always has such a calming approach to things and it’s an absolute joy any time I get to speak with her. As we discuss a little in the interview, we first met back in 2014 at the Polyglot Conference in Novi Sad, during an abnormally warm October. As well as meeting at various events since then, and Irina speaking at Women in Language (which, sidenote, will be back later this year, just a little heads up there), Irina very kindly took some time to teach me an intro to the notorious Finnish cases, which I promise aren’t as bad as it seems at first. In this conversation, I ask Irina how she organises her Finnish Through New Eyes program, designed for learners at various levels. The one thing they do have in common? Living in Finland. Learn more about Finnish Through New Eyes here: https://irinapravet.com/finnish-through-new-eyes/ And visit Irina's website here: https://irinapravet.com/ Other things mentioned in this episode... Teach a Lesson on my YouTube Channel!
Hey! Welcome back to a brief and slightly different episode of Teach Languages Online, not really an episode at all, more of an update. After what it’s fair to say was an unexpected break. When coronavirus decided to make a name for itself, something had to be put on pause to allow me to be there to best help learners and teachers navigate this weird time, and unfortunately the podcast was one of those things. So apologies for that but I’m sure you can understand why. I want to make videos for my YouTube channel with you.  What’s the thing that people think is difficult about the language you teach? What’s the question you always get answered? Teach me! Of course, there’ll be a link back to your own website in the comments so it’s a great chance to share your wisdom with a whole new group of people as well. If you’re interested, there’s a short form to fill out at lindsaydoeslanguages.com/shareyourteaching and let’s arrange a time to speak soon. Stay safe, and look out for the next episode of the podcast coming soon. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/teachlanguagesonline/message
