Dr. Michael Reber, author, professor at Tokyo School of Technology and at Waseda University, and member of Republicans Abroad Japan, speaks about Frenchman and Tocqueville contemporary, Frederic Bastiat, whom he describes as “defenders of Liberty and free market thinking…” Dr. Reber explains his method of teaching basic economics and “system thinking” and the importance of having the “thinking tools at the very beginning of the course…” As the creator of the “Frederic Bastiat Revival Blog”, Dr. Reber comments on its trajectory, (one year of radio shows) and the partnership with the Frederic Bastiat Society in the US.

Barbara and Joe talk with Ashley Rouston from Bison Brewery, one of the few Organic Breweries in the U.S. Bison is located in Berkley, CA. Ashley is a wine expert turned crafted beer expert. She discusses her role at Bison, the brewery’s philosophy regarding sustainable agriculture, and the process of educating the consumer. Bison is a 4000 barrel brewery.

Barbara and Joe talk with Carl Derrick from Morandell Brewery located in Gardena, CA. Carl discusses his 4th generation beer and wine import business and his German and Austrian Style crafted beer. He talks about how German style Beer masks the alcohol with malty, sweet, chocolate beers. He further discusses beer classifications such as IPA. Several of their beer recipes date back to 1308.

Brandon Sieminski from Iron Fist Brewery joins the show. Iron Fist began as a home brew avocation that turned into a family business. Iron Fist is located in Vista, CA and offer food and beverage at their brewery location. Brandon and Barb talk about barrel aging beers and his plans to introduce seasonal beers on a monthly basis.

Ryan Lamb, co-founder and publisher of West Coaster Magazine talks about the young publication that is distributed at a 120 locations in San Diego. Approaching their one year anniversary, the monthly magazines are archived on their website at "http://www.westcoastersd.com" www.westcoastersd.com West Coaster Magazine covers the events, breweries and crafted beer news in the San Diego area. There are 37 crafted beer breweries in San Diego.

Barbara and Joe talk with Ryan Brooks from Black Market Brewery in Temecula. Three of Black Markets Beers are distributed by Stone Brewing at 50 locations and 300 bottle stores. Gary Pitmann Head Brewer and Co-Founder of Manzanita Brewery from Santee California talks with Barb and Joe about their crafted beers. Both breweries are expanding. For both breweries, business is good in San Diego.

Barb and Joe welcome Dr Fix It and producer Doug Lukas while interviewing Greg and George from Home Brews and Gardens located in North Park San Diego. George and Greg discuss the kits and equipment required to brew your own crafted beers. They provide complete home brew kits and recipes and offer seminars and workshops on crafting your own brews. For about $200 you can purchase everything you need to brew beer at home. The individual recipes including all the products sell from $35 to $50. They also specialize in hydroponics supplies for home gardening.

Guest Joe Mc Kee, gun collector, sportsman, hunter provides insight as to how gun rights speak to the power of the individual. Mc Kee emphasizes that kids who grow up with guns do not view guns as dangerous or a threat to society. He points out the value of the Eagle program in teaching gun safety to youth. Mc Kee contends that the media has had a negative effect on gun control and ownership. Mc Kee and Flasterstein discuss the Second Amendment Club of America and how the values were based upon revolution. Mc Kee talks about how states are now restricting the sale of ammunition to control gun use.

Mike and Mc Kee talk about varmint hunting, prairie dogs, squirrels, and crows and what type of ammunition and gun to use for this activity. Mc Kee recommends a 410, but talks about distance as a variable.

MIke, Mc Kee, and Flasterstein talk about states waiting periods to purchase a gun. A discussion of state laws and the issue of discharging a weapon outside of the home are touched upon. Mc Kee talks about the Safari Club as a platform for hunters, sportsman, and gun advocates and the good the organization does in its lobbying efforts.

Johnny Temple: Publisher of Go the F**K to Sleep, the animated children’s style book for Adults shareshis insight on the phenomena that launched this book, almost overnight. According to Temple thebook’s success is based on the theme that all parents can relate to. A viral avalanche of positivefeedback has put the book in great demand. According to Temple there have been almost no negativereactions to the book with a 95 to 98% positive response rate. The book will be translated into 25languages. Temple contents that the F word is an American Colloquialism that may not translate intoall languages. He also sites a parents’ values group in New Zealand that is trying to band the bookthere.
