As you address the root causes of your pain, you may wrestle with denial, avoidance, bitterness, or bargaining away the pain. But it's possible to look at our past pain with acceptance, as those trials can lead us into intimacy with God and authentic community with others. "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." If you're stuck in a pattern you can't seem to break (unhealthy relationships, habits, or thought), there may be a deeper cause of pain at the root. Once we realize we don't want to stay in that cycle (when we're desperate for a different way of living), we can begin to take steps to truly change.
