Black Men and Politics: Their voice, their impact and our future
I keep hearing that Black people  are loyal Democrats and this confuses me. Mainly because Black people don't vote, therefore we are not loyal to the Democratic party. That’s a misconception. If that’s the case the Democratic Party would not be hustling to increase voter turnout each year and the Republicans would not be able to conduct redistricting every other year to suppress votes. We either vote Democrat or we don’t vote at all.  We don’t fuck with or trust the Republican party, not because we are loyal to Democrats. It’s because today’s Republicans are the ones outwardly denying the existence of systemic racism and opposing the fight against said systemic racism. Yet with all that’s going and so much on the line including having a Black woman on the ticket for VP we are greatly divided Politically.  Especially Black Men. First Kanye decided to run, Nick Cannon supported Kanye after getting his black card snatched for apologizing and Jaheim took a break from driving his Uber to write a song about it. I know no one is perfect but with all the disrespect and disregard Trump has had for blacks over the last few months alone what is his appeal to Black men and young voters. Why is that considering such a huge price was paid to allow us to vote? Joining us to discuss The Movement and The appeal of Trump to Independents, black men and young people are Alvin Hicks, Ivan Walker and Darren Singleton Resources:  https://www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote/ https://www.usa.gov/confirm-voter-registration https://www.vote.org/polling-place-locator/ Send your questions or comments to SweetTalkLive@gmail.com or hit us up on FB, Instagram or Twitter @SweetTalkLane. Coming out on the other side
"Grief is the hardest journey we will ever take." We have experienced some form of grief over the last few months.  Many of us may have not realized that we were in fact grieving.  Usually, when we talk about grief we think of death. But grief also means dealing with the loss of normalcy, routine, employment, social interaction and much more.  On this episode we discuss Grief Journeys and how to help someone along their personal journey and what a grief journey entails. We answer the questions: How can I emotionally support someone who is grieving? How long should I grieve? What should I say or do when some says they are not okay? Featured Guest: Anitra J.Green was born and raised in Chester, PA. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from West Chester University May 1998 and her Master’s Degree in social work from the University of Pittsburgh December 1999. Love and Happiness: The Covid Remix
Relationships are ending, a few are beginning and others are trying to stay on course.  COVID has reshaped our personal relationships in unprecedented ways, forcing us to live closer together with some people and further apart from others. Life in lockdown has necessitated close, constant contact with our families and partners, but social distancing measures have isolated us from our friends and wider communities.  The high-pressure environment of confinement, combined with the financial stress brought about by a Covid-19 burdened economy, has led to a rise in marital conflict. This is most evident in a spike in recent divorce rates and domestic violence. Listeners have asked me how I am managing after being quarantined  for 6 months with my spouse. So I have decided to address the questions directly with my spouse by my side.   On this episode my spouse and I answer questions asked by our followers as it pertains to Love, Happiness and a Pandemic. We tackle the topics: What two things  would you change about your spouse? What were/are your biggest fears about your relationship? What have you learned to appreciate about your spouse since COVID? Is friendship is an important component of marriage? What are our views about divorce and our guidelines for a successful marriage to name a few. Examination of Life: Note to my younger self
"The unexamined life is not worth living.” – Socrates  A few days ago I turned 49. However, as I began to approach my birthday I realized 50 was right around the corner. It made me wonder what I wish I had known earlier, would it have shaped me differently? Would I be the person I am today? Have you ever wished you could go back in time and tell your younger self something? Do you feel like you could change something from your past? Aren’t sure you have accomplished what you set out to accomplish. I’ve decided to write a letter to my younger self as a way to acknowledge things from my past and find ways to use them to make positive changes for the future. Before I share my letter with you, I’ve decided to take a walk down memory lane with my parents and one of aunts as a way of seeing myself through their eyes. Hopefully at the end of this episode some of my notes to my younger self may just help the older version of us all.  Featured Guest: My Parents: Thomas and Christine and my Aunt Clara  Send your questions or comments to SweetTalkLive@gmail.com or hit us up on FB or Twitter @SweetTalkLane.
