Lora Cecere, author of the recent best-seller Bricks Matter: The Role of Supply Chains in Building Market-Driven Differentiation returns to give us a few updates on the NRF BIG SHOW, and to talk about some of what she is seeing happening in supply chains today. Lora Cecere takes time out of her busy schedule to talk with Dr Brady, and share her thoughts on the directions and challenges facing the supply chain and enterprise technologies.  She takes the time to talk about the need for systems to sense the activities from the outside, including consumers and suppliers, and evolution of systems, allowing for the sensing of supplier failures and demand data reducing latency in responses. She really challenges the listener, as she talks about a change of information flow no longer just flowing out from our organization.  As she said: The movement from the inside out to the outside in is a revolution not an evolution, a lot of the new forms of data that we are getting from devices across the supply chain ... can't just be stuffed into the enterprise applications. Lora helps draw the connection not only from typical retail type spaces to the Defense industry, the grocery industry and other significant,fragile, and complicated supply chains. Dr Brady caught up with Harley Feldman, the CEO and Founder of Seeonic.  RFID is growing in many areas now, and has overcome the initial resistance to this new technology.  Harley talks about the challenges retailers face, and the powerful benefit that RFID can provide in solving these challenges.   He points out that inventory accuracy is perhaps the biggest "win" for retailers.   I think people aren't very good counters--including myself... they get above 10 or 20 items and we just lose count. Harley shares the approach his company follows--not your typical handheld solution, so it even removes that labor piece. The roots of Supply Chain Innovations Today go back to our founder's time in the US Air Force. In the Air Force, Dr Brady started as a logistician, working with the KC-135 and the FB-111A (and later the B1-B). During that time, and later at the Air Mobility Command as the Command's Reliability and Maintainability Manager, Dr Brady supported the operations and the modernization of the KC-135 aircraft.  Dr Brady had no problem stepping up to interview Paul Woodlief from the Defense Logistics Agency about the KC-135 and the continuing efforts between DLA and the USAF to support the airframe well into the middle of this new century. Taxonomy upgrade extras: SCToday PodcastVoV In this interview, I talk with Matt Johnson about the earliest days of CPFR­®, and in fact we go back to when it first started, and was known as CFAR.  For those that go back far enough, we remember when CPFR®  was the 9 Step model.  In this interview, Matt reveals how it transformed into the "wheel" or "Quadrant" model we know today. From the Interview: More important than that depiction has the realization that CPFR needs to have variance because different companies have different business issues that they’re trying to address through collaboration. I chaired a committee to define a process that we called retail event collaboration which takes promotional events and drives a collaboration based upon promotions certainly with forecasts and historical data there but as more of a validation point or background data. Others, like Fred Bowman of JDA, have worked on different models where you have distributor based collaboration and then more recently we’ve had a model where we’ve had assortment-based merchandise-driven collaboration for the fashion, apparel and specialty retail industries... What’s nice is that CPFR has spawned processes that are more industry specific over time and that can be easily used by different pairs of trading partners as a guide to more effective collaboration. It’s not just a one size fits all anymore.
