Ginger - all about the phenols
Here at Sunflower Guru we strive to live healthfully illuminating wonders the natural world has to offer. We invoke thoughtfulness and encourage open minds. We strive to implement healing habits that attribute to elevation of our daily lives and to share growth in its many forms. There are gems that lay everywhere, if we know where to look. Today's question, what is ginger, where does it come from, and how can we incorporate this healing herb into daily life? Ginger revolves around eternal healing qualities due to chemical constituents present in the rhizome. Embodying monumental studies showing its benefit in the healing of ailments s/a cancer/tumor growth, promote neurological health, mitochondrial stimulation aiding more efficient energy production, gut healing, and so much more. We will be diving deep into study implications, and how we are able to cultivate this extensively heartening and spicy herb.Embraced since antiquity, Chinese, Ayurvedic, Tib-Unani, Srilankan, Arabic, and African medicine. Ginger is a leafy stemmed plant with yellow/green flowers. The rhizome is attributed towards cooking teas, and a wide variety of medicinal uses. Ginger grows underneath rich soil, and is native to warmer climates of Asia, China, Japan, India, also now grown in South America, Africa, and the Middle East. Our most prominent chemical components alias under the umbrella of phenolic compounds. The three being gingerol, shoagol, and paradols. Each embodying unique attributes to the next through thermal drying of ginger rhizome itself. These phenolic compounds exhibit antioxidant, antitumor, powerful anti-inflammatory properties, and much more. We're going to+6 discuss research findings and work devoted to these prominent chemical components, those of which lend ginger its powerful aroma. Chronic diseases in animal AND human studies vastly convey testing after another rooting its reputable foundation as an effective, powerful healing medicine. ALL resources will be listed in our show notes where we dive into these resources listed abundantly on the National Library of Medicines website. Before we begin, let's take a deep breath and sit in a moment of stillness. Calm our thoughts, open our minds, and breathe. Okay, let's get into it.What heartening qualities does our first phenolic compound gingerol embody and how can we cultivate this medicine? Being a thermogenic cardio tonic, gingerol heartens mitochondrial respiration and increases uncoupled oxygen consumption.A study published December 13, 2019 states gingerol “improved mitochondrial respiration and energy metabolism by up regulating expression levels of some mitochondrial bio-genesis markers,” August 1, 2019 observes “Ginger, with anticipated safety, is expected to be a long-term used dietary supplement and may be developed into a new remedy for mitochondrial dysfunctional disorders.” “ enhance “glucose uptake...supporting... the prevention and management of hyperglycemia and type 2 diabetes... cardiac and hepatic disorders.” Paired with a balance diet, this may be quite a useful herb to help maintain and possibly decrease the severity of diabetic symptoms. Through activation of thermogenic adipocytes our bodies increase energy expenditure. This attribute may be useful to increase circulation and utilizable to weightlifters as a natural pre-workout, exerting activities, those looking to increase metabolic function, and even to those who are looking to loose weight. A simmering cup of organic ginger tea with lemon cultivates this medicine. Harnessing anti-inflammatory medicinal healing, gingerol increases oxidative regulations illuminating two types of anti-tumor treatments.“1) direct colon cancer cell growth suppression, and inhibition of the blood supply of the tumor via angiogenesis.”Induction of apoptosis (healthy cell recycling) ultimately solidifies gingerols role as a chemo preventative and anti-neoplastic protector, neoplastic being an environment leading to tumor growth.) Applied knowledgably with a healing lifestyle this medicine we may be able to REVERSE cancerous metastasis such as cell adhesion, invasion, mortality of cancerous cells and alteration of gene expressions.Anti-inflammatories create a domino affect cooling joint pain, arthritis, rheumatism, sprains, muscular aches, hypertension and greatly protects a healthful gut lining, smooths and stimulates digestion, and maybe useful in ailments such as motion sickness, vomiting, indigestion, and helpful to upcoming mothers.Herbs are POWERFUL and careful consideration may bring immense healing.Fermented dishes like kimchi, kavass, or any other creative brew are phenomenal ways to cultivate gingerols, gingers first phenolic compound of medicinal healing.Shogaol, gingers spirited metabolite, is an increasingly powerful evolution of gingerol through thermal drying. What is a metabolite? A substance utilized in metabolism creating energy and materials for growth and reproduction naturally found in many herbs regularly used for maintaining health. Alike gingerols shogaols illustrate abounding inhibitory effects on human lung and colon cancer cells activating apoptosis. Also an anti-inflammatory shogaols nurture many biological responses such as relaxing airway smooth muscle (which is used as a therapy for asthma), soothing digestion, targets colitis tissues wound repair. Shogaols aid in mending acute kidney injury due to ischemia-reperfusion. Ischaemia occurs when the blood supply is less than the demand required for normal function, resulting in deficiencies in oxygen, glucose and other substances required for metabolism. Clinically there aren't many therapeutic options for ischaemia, shogaols helps by, “decreasing plasma creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and kidney neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin mRNA synthesis... decreased pro-inflammatory cytokine and kemokine synthesis as well as neutrophil infiltration.” which regulates inflammatory responses to injury in the body. Inflammatory responses are normal and healthy response our bodies invoke, however chronic inflammation can lead to further problems and injury. present in organically dried ginger in the spice section of our local markets. Shogaols induce nerve growth biosynthesis mimicking neurogenetic activity of nerve growth factor, kindling a clearer mind, nourishing greater memory abilities, and smoother learning capability. Which could also be utilized therapeutically for neuro-degenerative diseases. Paradols envelop an umbrella of healing qualities. Being the biotransformation of shogaols, paradols similarly hold rooted building blocks for cell life which can rejuvenate neuro pathways in both the brain and body promoting memory retention, focus, and our bodies ability to process stress. Age related neurological disorders may promisingly be treated by ginger as well including cerebral ischemia ( Ischaemia occurs when the blood supply is less than the demand required for normal function, resulting in deficiencies in oxygen, glucose and other substances required for metabolism ) and auto immune disorders such as MS (multiple sclerosis). One study dives into Osteoporosis treatment by decreased bone mineral density and deterioration of bone microarchitecture. “Biochemically, paradol enhanced alkaline phosphatase activity and vitamin D content, decreased the osteoporotic marker acid phosphatase... paradol... exhibited potent pro-liferative and ossification characteristics in bone cells.” As observed these phenols beautifully age through bio- transformation of gingerols, to shogaols, to paradols and each stage embodies similar yet differentiated nurturing qualities. Everyday notions we observe in our bodies can be a nudge to utilize herbs like ginger before a symptom turns into something worse. Ask yourself right now how your body is feeling. Close your eyes in this moment, breathe, and tune into yourself. Are you feeling bloated, congested, inflamed, anxious, sluggish, overall achy, unmotivated, or having digestion issues? Ginger may be a nurturing herb that will forevermore guide the health of your body and help in true healing of ailments that would otherwise build up and become a much larger, harder to treat issue. Anytime I incorporate a variety of heartening herbs into daily life my mind, body, motivation, energy, and concentration experience viable improvement. As proven, ginger is eternally healing and will forevermore hold presence in my personal life. I'm no doctor, yet am a researcher and observer and notice these beautiful changes upon incorporation of ginger. I make a special delightful tea out of fresh or dried ginger paired with organic turmeric and black pepper. Two to four times a week I drink this and notably experience clearer breathing, better digestion, a flatter stomach, less cravings, a clearer mind, more motivation, and more of a natural drive towards healthful foods. When you try this tea, give it a week and/or a couple days in a row and please tell me what you experience and how ginger is helping you. My goal is to expand knowledge through research, present different perspectives, and encourage open minds. So, what is ginger? Ginger is a powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, neurologically healing, anti-cancer, anti-tumor mitochondrial stimulating, anti-diabetic, cardio tonic, DNA repairing, muscle and joint detoxifier and builder, gut healing, weight shedding, lung healing and grounding herb. Thank you for joining me lovelies. I truly appreciate your presence here and hope every episode has a gem that we can utilize in our lives. Let's conquer our minds, our health, and climb this beautiful mountain called life. Thank you for listening. Show NotesChemical Components Ginger contains various phenolic compounds (Phenolic compounds have an aromatic phenol rings with one or more hydroxyl groups that are active antioxidants, bearing one or more hydroxyl groups and include flavonoids, phenolic acids, tannins, stilbenes, anthocyanins, xanthines, and lignans. Commonly there are two classes of phenolic compounds, hydroxybenzoic acids and hydroxycinnami
