My guest today is Nicole Jackson-Bertrand. She is blowing up on Instagram because of her beautiful projects. Herself, along with her wife, Diane had been doing for years, everything, themselves, just from the vision to the execution. It's pretty amazing. They live in Florida. So there's a lot of attention they'd paid to their outdoor living spaces. I just want to encourage you to think about while she's talking is what are your plans? What is your vision for your outdoor spaces and how do you want to live in them? And what's on your dream list.

Sharon Santoni / My French Country Home
I'm delighted to have Sharon Santoni back on the show again. I first met her when her book, "My Stylish French Girlfriends" came out. And she has put together a life that embodies all of the components that I admire: beauty, inspiration and the company of great friends. Her blog, My French Country Home," has turned into a multifaceted business, including antiquing tours in Paris and Normandy, two books a magazine and more. And today, she's going to take us to France.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint
I am honored to introduce today's guest, the one and only, Annie Sloan, creator of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Now, if you've ever dipped your hand into any DIY projects, you've probably come across Annie's famous line of paints. As I say several times during our conversation, her website is a huge library of resources for all kinds of paint projects, from painting kitchen cabinets to speciality designs on furniture. So you must check that out. And Just to give you an idea of how big of a deal it was for me to talk with Annie, she has been called a leader in the design scene by the UK Telegraph, Elle Decor and the venerable World Of Interiors magazine. There's so much to her story... we didn't even touch on her ethical and environmentally sound business practices... maybe we'll have to have her on again... but for now, I think you're going to be just as delighted with this first conversation as I was! Annie and I were chatting before we started recording and she jumped into my first question without me even prompting her (she's a pro at interviews, honestly), so just to get you up to speed, basically, I wanted to know whether or not she agreed that most entrepreneurs of her stature haven't had a straight line to success, that there have been bumps and learning curves along the way. Here's Annie.https://www.anniesloan.com/https://www.anniesloan.com/about/painters-in-residence/https://www.anniesloan.com/about/the-colourist/

Anitra Terrell - Reflektion Design
My guest is Anitra Terrell, founder of Reflektion Design, an online shop that sells handcrafted art, textiles and serving ware all made from artisans Anitra has sought out in several African countries such as Ghana, Kenya, Burkina Faso and Uganda. In this conversation, we talk about how she first started collecting textiles, the stories behind some of the objects she sells, and the impact you can have when you know where things come from. It's all good stuff, but maybe the best part of the interview is at the very end when Anitra talks about why style matters. I think you're going to really love that part! Here she is.

What We Cherish In Our Homes with Christina Fluegge
My guest today is Christina Fluegge started her interior design studio, Greige Design about 20 years ago. More recently, she has turned her focus specifically toward pattern design for fabrics and wallpaper, which you can find at Greige Textiles. I was really drawn to these products because of her points of inspiration, which are mainly travel and nature. Today, we're talking all about her wide range of work as well as how she mixes in art and antiques into her own home.

A Big Impact Starts with Simple Questions with Maria Viola
My guest today is Philadelphia based interior designer Maria Viola. She's been heading up her own team for about 15 years and her award winning firm, Viola Interior Design, while being active on several boards in the city. We dive into lots of reasons why good design is essential... in other words, why style matters! My first question was cut off in the recording but I was simply asking Maria to tell us how she got into design and then, what's currently driving her forward in her career.

How to Be a Pattern Mixing Ninja with Bari J Ackerman
My guest today is Bari J Ackerman, artist, maximalist, floral enthusiast, and now, author. Her first book, Bloom Wild, A Free Spirited Guide To Decorating with Floral Patterns showcases Bari's own work on walls, fabric and furniture while teaching us how to mix patterns, even crazy, wild patterns, in ways that are joyous rather than chaotic. We talk about pattern mixing a lot on this episode but I also want to mention that in the book, she also shares quite a few DIY projects as well as historical and botanical notes about flowers that make the book all the more engaging. Here's Bari.

Who We Are In Our Homes During and Post Pandemic with The Spruce
I have a question for you. Have you heard of The Spruce? thespruce.com? If not, you need to check it out right after you're done listening to this episode. Think of it as a cross between the best reference books in gardening, home repair and cleaning but on an updated, interactive platform that's also entertaining. Anything Goes When It Comes To Your Walls with Geraldine James
My guest is Geraldine James, a prolific author of design books, including the very popular "Creative Walls" and "#shelfie." These are the two books I wanted to talk about with her in particular because buying art as well as displaying collections are two things I think we should all be embracing. Geraldine showcases so much inspiration for all of us and so I encourage you to get your hands on these books to help you think beyond just hanging pictures. We start off talking about her "Creative Walls" book, but then we also discover 2 more books she's had published within the last 12 months. I'm telling you, she's unstoppable!

Creating a Natural Eclectic Home with Heather Ross
Heather Ross is my guest this week and she's been living a multi-passionate life, for sure. She's an artist in several mediums, she's been a boutique owner, and the author of a gorgeous and thoughtful design book, The Natural Eclectic. There's a lot to unpack in her writing and photography and so I encourage you pick up a copy and sink into. In our conversation today, we dive into a few of the gems she's layered into the book, such as re-examining what we mean when we say we're decorating with nature, or that we're "eclectic" in our style, as well as taking apart words we see all the time these days such as beauty and authenticity. It's a juicy conversation and I'm so happy to be sharing it with you. Here's Heather.

Modern Americana with Max Humphrey
Max Humphrey is my guest today and it's his second time on the podcast. In that first interview, he shared a lot about his background, which is really interesting, and his overall approach and philosophy toward design. Today, we're picking up where we left off, conversationally, but a lot has happened in the years since that first time we talked. For one thing, he's coming out with his first book. It's called Modern Americana and in it, Max takes us through all of the pieces that signify his particular outlook, which tend to be classic, nostalgic, and very American. Think vintage boy scout handbooks, Teddy Roosevelt on horseback and Hollywood's wild west. His aesthetic is laid back, very comfortable and livable, but he pays very close attention to detail, composition and environment. We'll talk about the book, of course, again it's called Modern Americana, it's coming out at the end of April but I encourage you to pre-order it now through your favorite bookseller.

Empowering Women, One Power Tool At A Time with Cara Newhart
Cara Newhart is like my other half, perfectly complimenting the things I know with the things I don't know. Namely, how to actually build stuff. Cara is the woman, the carpenter, the visionary behind Never Skip Brunch where she is on a mission to empower women to hold a drill as easily as you hold a handbag. She has all kinds of ways of interacting with her audience from one-on-one consultations to an online course to her podcast, which is called Make Space. Cara Newhart is a delightful soul. She shares how so many women she's worked with have overcome not just their fear of power tools but have transformed their lives in the process.

You Gotta Know Yourself To Find Your Style with Carmen Rene
This conversation left me feeling very inspired and I hope you feel the same energy that I've taken away from it. My guest is Carmen Rene of Aquilo Interiors. She's baed in Oakland, CA and has worked on everything from hotels, restaurants and bars to private homes all across the Bay area. Carmen's aesthetic is pretty wild, very bold and unlike a lot of other work done by traditional designers, which is what drew me to her in the first place. Be sure to take a look at the show notes page for this episode on the little yellow couch website and you'll see photos of what I'm talking about. But what I really loved about digging in to Carmen's mind during this conversation is that she isn't afraid to go deep and talk about the substance and reasons behind why we want to live in beautiful spaces and how you have to get real with yourself about who you are if you ever want to create a home you love. I'm delighted to introduce you to Carmen Rene.

New Inspiration for Vintage Lovers with Ki Nassauer
Ki Nassauer is a repeat guest on the Style Matters podcast and I'm so happy to have her back. Ki has been rolling up her sleeves and digging in to all things vintage for many years. This time, I wanted to talk with her about her newest venture, an online magazine called Lived-In Style. When I first met Ki, she was the editor in chief of Flea Market Style, a print publication and was the founder of one of the best antiques shows in the country, Junk Bonanza. She's still producing that show in Minneapolis... or, she will be again, as soon as the pandemic allows, but I was curious about her transition from print to online when it came to the shelter magazine arena. And of course, we also talk a lot about vintage in this conversation! Let's jump in.

Marlo Thomas on Feminism, Travel and Home
Today, I have a very special guest to wrap us up for the winter season. I'm talking with the one-and-only Marlo Thomas. That's right. THE Marlo Thomas! She has recently collaborated with Williams Sonoma on a 10 piece collection of that's perfect for when we're all able to start hosting friends again! We talk about how this all came about and the inspiration behind it, but of course, I had to also ask her about her acting career and her work as an activist. You are going to love this conversation! Just a heads up, though, we were cut off right at the very end... so you miss the two of us saying good bye to each other. But all of the juicy bits are still here. Let's go!

Investing In a Community, One Home at a Time with Mina Starsiak Hawk
You may know my guest this week from the seemingly boundless energy she shares on her HGTV show, Good Bones. But she's no TV star diva. Mina Starsiak Hawk is the real deal when it comes to construction and renovation. Before being approached by the network to pilot a show about two women, a mom and daughter team, who could take a dying home down to the studs and build it back up again, Mina had spent several years teaching herself how to use every power tool out there and, with her mom, started the Two Chicks & A Hammer construction company. She'll soon be airing the 7th season of Good Bones, and, along with have two kids, opening up a shop and bistro and writing the newly released children's book, "Built Together," Mina has continued to be an integral part of the communities in which she lives and works and has used that platform for all kinds of initiatives. The beginning of our conversation was cut off for just a bit, so let me just say that I had just asked Mina what life was like when she bought that first home and did she have any idea how her life as about to unfold.

Michelle Ogundehin is a leader in the interior design world. Most recently, her first book, called "Happy Inside: How to Harness the Power of Home for Health and Happiness" has just been published. The interview you're about to hear is one of the most substantial conversations I've ever had about design, on a personal scale. How design affects real people, in real homes.
