“If you want to end unrest, work to end the conditions that create it.” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
If you’re white like me it’s so important to realize that we were raised in a society where institutionalized racism is normalized, and we were born with privilege. You can’t choose the color of your skin, but you can choose to put ego aside and reflect on why this isn’t happening to me, and be vocal about being anti-racist.  #aoc #justiceforgeorgefloyd #SayHisName #blacklivesmatter #socialjustice #socialactivism #america #injustice #justice #icantbreathe #racism #endracism #blackmen #education #stoppolicebrutality #unconsciousbias #privilege #privilegedlife #ahamoment #humanity #humanrights #human #dothework #geteducated #think #workinprogress #work #bethechange #bethelight #bethebestyou @strengthinvulnerabilitypodcast

Episode 22 - Wearing a Mask and Social Distancing with neuroscientist Melodi Bowman
I wear a mask but have been getting frustrated with people who don’t. So for those like me here is some advice on how to talk to loved ones who don’t social distance or wear masks. Melodi Bowman, a published scientist in the neuroscience PHD program at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, shares some tips. Melodi said it best “sometimes to stay positive is almost looking outside of myself to know that what I'm doing is making an impact on other people.” By wearing a mask “I'm doing the right thing, for myself, for my husband, for coworkers, for everybody else that I ended up being around.” #Socialdistancing #social #friends #friendship #friendsforlife #bestfriends #science #neuroscience #texas #california #PHD #phdlife #girlwashyourface #coronavirus #vulnerability #vulnerable #vulnerabilityisstrength #conversationstarters #podcast #womenpodcast #health #healthylifestyle #healthy #mentalhealth #mental #mask #masks #maskcarebeauty #brenebrown #marieforleo #rachelhollis

Episode 21- Emotional Permission Slip with Melodi Bowman
My friend Melodi reminded me that its ok to not be ok, and that sometimes you need to write yourself a permission slip to just chill out and stop comparing yourself to others. Everyone handles things differently, and we are all dealing with Coronavirus the best way we know how. So give yourself a permission slip to take this day by day. #permission #brenebrown #selfcare #coronavirus #COVID19 #raiseyourfrequency #authenticself #youarepowerful #liveyourpurpose #liveyourtruth #selfawareness #iamworthy #selfaware #lawofvibration #iamenough #youareworthy #youareenough #embraceyourself #lovewhoyouare #doyouboo #itsajourney #youarepowerful #honoryourself #giveyourselfgrace #justdoyou #yourworthit #staytruetoyourself #beyourbestself #youhavethepower #yourvibeattractsyourtribe

Episode 20- Self-Care
This episode is all about self-care during the Coronavirus.  If you’re like me you might find it difficult to find time to take care of yourself when there's so much happening in the world; but, by taking care of yourself it gives you more energy and mental space to help others. If you’re needing some additional support, check out my podcast episode 13 where I interview licensed marriage and family therapist K’hara McKinney. If you’re in the Los Angeles area K’hara is an awesome therapist who can help, and recommends also looking into affordable therapists on Open Path, https://openpathcollective.org/. #selfcare #coronavirus #COVID19 #raiseyourfrequency #authenticself #youarepowerful #liveyourpurpose #liveyourtruth #selfawareness #iamworthy #selfaware #lawofvibration #iamenough #youareworthy #youareenough #embraceyourself #lovewhoyouare #doyouboo #itsajourney #youarepowerful #honoryourself #giveyourselfgrace #justdoyou #yourworthit #staytruetoyourself #beyourbestself #youhavethepower #yourvibeattractsyourtribe #chooseyou #courageovercomfort

Episode 17 - Middle School Teacher Chris Taylor
Chris Taylor, Standford graduate and middle school teacher, speaks to how his school is coping with COVID-19 and addresses the issues this has caused his students and the community. He speaks to how the main concern he’s hearing about is not about getting sick, but rather about loosing housing, losing jobs, not being able to buy groceries. Chris also speaks to the importance of mental health awareness and says the following during this interview: “We know the new frontier of education right now is looking at how trauma and unaddressed mental health illness is a big part of what we see in achievement gap or the opportunity gap, or education gap… and part of the reason for that is because we know from brain science that it's a part of the brain that sort of processes, emotions and sort of get stuck in trauma, which is called the limbic system. When that's engaged, the prefrontal cortex can't do what it's supposed to do, which is picking up new information and learning… And I think [mental health] needs to be seen as more of an integral part of the educational system as opposed to just sort of this separate realm.” - Chris Taylor Please share this with teachers, parents, and students. We are all in this together. EPISODE 15 - Intensive Care Unit Nurse Becca Rust
Worried about COVID-19? In this podcast I interview Becca Rust, a nurse in the intensive care unit who provides insights into what to do right now during this pandemic. She’s also a mom and awesome human being and talks about how she and her husband Mike are talking to their kids about what’s going on in the world and why its important to keep social distancing out of kindness and respect towards others, and not out of fear. In Becca’s own words “if you can quarantine not out of fear and not out of hysteria and panic, but quarantine out of respect, that's just a huge selfless decision that everybody should feel really proud of themselves for.” #covidkindness #COVID19 #Socialdistancedelivery #coronavirus #paramedic #workingmom #mom #nurse #doctor #socialdistance #bekind #positive #anxietyrelief #stressrelief #keepcalm #wecanbeatthis #mentalhealth #hiking #active #stayactive #momlife #momboss #socialdistance #realtalk #real #vulnerable #vulnerability #vulnerabilityisstrength #love #instagood

Episode 13 - Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist K’hara McKinney
What’s the deal with therapy? And no, this is not a Seinfeld-esque joke :) In this episode I speak with K’hara McKinney, a licensed marriage and family therapist who speaks openly about why she decided to become a therapist and the positive benefits that come from therapy.  She also offers insights into how to find a therapist if you would like to see one.  If you’re looking for a therapist and are in the Los Angeles, CA area I highly recommend connecting with K’hara. See her full profile on Psychology Today here Another good resource K’hara recommends for finding a therapist, especially if you’re on a budget, is is to search for someone on Open Path I hope if you’re on the fence about therapy this conversation helps you see the positive and beneficial impact therapy has! I know I love it and recommend that everyone I know see a therapist, even if you think you don’t need one.  #therapy #therapist #therapistlife #therapists #blacktherapist #holistictherapist #blacktherapists #lmft #talktherapy #blackwomen
