In this, the last episode of Season 1, we end where we started.

The bodies of Joseph and Hyrum are taken back to Nauvoo. The members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints decide who will lead it after the death of its founder and prophet. And, the mob escalates its war against the Latter-day Saints.

After arriving in Carthage, Joseph Smith, the founder and prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is murdered.Joseph's brother, Hyrum, is also murdered as the two are in jail waiting for trial on charges of treason. Surviving the attack are John Taylor and Willard Richards.

Joseph Smith prepares for his journey west to find a place for the Mormons to settle in the midst of the Rocky Mountains.Not everyone is happy, however, with Joseph's decision to leave Nauvoo while it is in the center of its enemies' ire.

The citizens of Hancock County are furious that Joseph Smith ordered the destruction of the Nauvoo Expositor Press.In order to protect the city from their increased attacks and threats, Joseph declares the city under martial law.

Joseph Smith, as mayor of Nauvoo, orders the city Marshall to destroy the Nauvoo Expositor's press.Afterwards, Joseph and the Latter-day Saints navigate the strong reaction to the press' destruction.

Joseph Smith fuel's the anger and fear of his enemies when, as a 3rd party candidate, he runs to be the President of the United States of America.

William Law, a former leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints leads a secret organization which has the goal of destroying Joseph Smith. The organization is full of men who left the Church and now want to kill their former prophet.

Joseph Smith, the prophet and founder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and his close friend, Porter Rockwell, are charged with the attempted assassination of a former Governor of Missouri.This charge proves to be the latest instance in over a decade of persecution against the prophet -- which persecution has now been taken up by the Anti-Mormons in Illinois.
