Problem Solving through Thwinking
WHY has humanity been unable to solve the global environmental sustainability problem? All problems arise from their root causes, so If a solution fails it can only be because it did not resolve the root causes. If we want solutions that will work, problem solvers will have to change their approach. The Thwink approach identifies the root cause then finds solutions to resolve the subproblems identified. Key to the solution is finding the root cause of change resistance. The System Improvement Process provides problem solvers with a fill in the blanks framework that makes work much more focused and efficient. The SIP process is a systematic, analytical approach to problem-solving. SIP is a process that fits the problem.

Circular Economy
Jonathan Pereira, the Executive Director of Plant Chicago, will be joining us to discuss the concept of a Circular Economy. In a circular economy, conventional waste streams from one process are repurposed as inputs for another, creating a circular, closed-loop model of material reuse. We'll discuss how this community of businesses, at Plant Chicago, collaborates in this net zero system. The diverse businesses that comprise the community include a bread store, coffee shop, brewery, and more. Their mission is to change the way we, as a city, think about our food and our environment. To develop circular economies of food production, energy conservation and material reuse, while empowering people of all backgrounds to make their cities healthier and more efficient. Plant Chicago offers tours and hands-on workshops. Plant Chicago is happy to host school field trips or even visit classrooms to teach students about the science and social value behind their work.

Sustainability and Nutrition
We will be discussing the intersection of Sustainability & Nutrition. Joan Palmer created T.I.O.S.N = The Institute of Sustainable Nutrition. She has a Bachelor’s in Education, a Masters in Human Nutrition, and in 2011 earned a Certification in Herbology. In school Joan learned the clinical side of nutrition, and vowed when finished to teach how in hindsight she wished she’d been taught. (Hands-on, in the kitchen) Joan now teaches “The art & science of eating”. Answering the question: “What about food & health is important?” Learn how Joan’s background in both in Human Nutrition and Herbology, aligns with Eye Love Nature’s sustainability foundation principle of recognizing the connection of humans and nature (our food source). We'll discuss how to incorporate food as medicine, importance of seasonal eating, soil composition and how food item's nutrient value changes over time.
