125. Finding Faith Above: She Left the Mormon Church and Traded "Works" for "Grace" (Shelby's Story)
Shelby Hohsfield grew up in a mixed religion home, primarily following Joseph Smith’s teachings and the Book of Mormon. She was “baptized into the religion at age 8” all the while trying to discern if what she was believing was actually true.  From “levels of Heaven” to the lie of salvation by works, Shelby began seeking God’s truths and grace when she left the Mormon Church at age 18. God began speaking into her life through dreams and life events until she opened her heart and freely received salvation by grace through faith.  If you’re feeling far from Jesus right now or if you’re looking for first steps when it comes to trusting in Him, Shelby is sharing loads of Biblical wisdom (and her full testimony) inside of today’s episode.  “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”  -Ephesians 2:8 Find today’s show notes and links at KatieHedrick.com/125 Check out the past episodes that were mentioned: #23. Amen!  I pray that you are blessed as you join me in this powerful, guided meditation of God’s Word. Hey Sis! Get ready for some life changing insight on today’s podcast episode. It’s all about body image and how to embrace your “mom bod.” Yep! Let’s be real… changes in your body can be uncomfortable and awkward to say the least and as a woman, you are bound to go through a LOT of those changes!  Puberty, pregnancy, childbirth, peri-menopause, menopause, stress and anxiety (just to name a few)… In some of those moments in the past, I bet it’s safe to say that you’ve turned to at least one or two methods that didn’t work. Perhaps you’ve jumped on a diet trend or even tried starving yourself altogether. Maybe you’ve attempted to exercise vigorously… all while wrestling with self doubt and insecurity and the frustrating feeling of not being happy even if/when you “arrived” at your “ideal body.”  Sis… it turns out that when it comes to body image, the truth is, the way you THINK about your body image is actually JUST as important as your physical body itself. #truthbomb Tune in to the podcast today as Victoria Yates, an intuitive eating and body image coach unpacks this truth, plus so much more (including tips for what to do on those “hard body image” days)! 120. How a Young Mama got UNSTUCK from Anger and Grew into the Mom that God created Her to Be (She implemented these 3 things!)
Have you ever been in the space of motherhood where your entire day consists of following your kids around the house while picking up their toys, dealing with disobedience, fussy toddlers, nap times gone wrong and all the other proverbial plates that are spinning in your hands?  Relatable, right?  It’s frustrating to say the least, and it can be easy to feel angry.  My little Sister, Dori is joining me on the podcast today, to share vulnerably about how her frustration with motherhood quickly escalated to anger and then…. Ultimately led to heart change as she discovered and implemented three different things which helped her to more intentionally embrace her God-given role as a mom. Mama friend, if you feel like you don’t even recognize yourself right now, or like you’re drowning in motherhood, there is HOPE! 119. 3 Reasons WHY Every Christian should be Reading the Bible RIGHT NOW
As chaos swirls around us and as the world tries to blur the lines between right and wrong, good and evil, it’s more important than ever that we (Believers) become rooted in God’s Word. HOW do we do that and WHY should we do that? We take our own Bible in our own hands, open it… and READ it, so that we can know, and stand for the truth that’s inside of it.  It’s time to stop being spoon fed little snippets of God’s Word and instead taste the richness and goodness of the Bible in its entirety for yourself, Sister Friend. The Word is pure, true and alive and there are 3 SUPER important reasons why you should be reading your Bible right now!  “Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”  -Psalm 1:1-3 Find today’s show notes and links at KatieHedrick.com/119 ————————— Are you loving the wisdom on the podcast and ready to grow even deeper in your faith and personal life? I hear you, Sis! And it IS possible.  Just like any good relationship, your relationship with God is WORTH growing and investing in to! 117. Religion vs. Relationship with Andrew Moore (one of my favorite Gospel Preachers!)
117. Today’s podcast is featuring the MOST important topic we could ever cover on the show. We’re discussing the difference between “religion” and “relationship” and taking a look at what it means to step into a life of being saved by grace. (Ephesians 2:8-9)  This topic, and today’s guest have been on my heart since before the podcast even began (over 2 years ago!). From the first moment I heard Andrew Moore, a farm kid from Northeast Missouri open his mouth to preach the Gospel, I knew that even as a teenager, he had deep wisdom and a passion for the Lord. It felt like I was listening to a young Billy Graham.  Andrew’s relationship with Jesus is deep and it continues to grow every day, as he takes in God’s word and lives his life in a way that reflects Christ. Whether he’s on his college campus, on the farm, or traveling the world, Andrew strives to sow seeds of Biblical truth.   Tune in today as he shares about how a health diagnosis at a young age changed his life plan and pointed him towards ministry. Andrew and I are also unpacking these questions: Could I ever be “good enough” to go to Heaven? What is the difference between “religion” and “relationship” with Jesus? Why is relationship with Jesus so important and what happens if I reject him? How can I secure my eternal salvation and live with absolute peace? What comes next? How do I continue to grow in wisdom? What is my purpose as a believer? Don’t miss today’s episode, friend. It may be the most important one you’ll ever hear! As Andrew says, it will encourage your heart to be a “sower of seeds.”  With deep faith and great JOY, Katie   Find today’s show notes and links at KatieHedrick.com/117 ————————— Are you loving the wisdom on the podcast and ready to grow even deeper in your faith and personal life? 115. Recently, my husband and I were experiencing some conflict. With resolution, came growth.  You see, conflict doesn’t always have to be a bad thing. It all depends on how you look at it, how you choose to deal with it and whether or not you allow it to be a growth opportunity.   Join me on the podcast today, as we gather around the proverbial table with a group of my favorites (yep, the Moms in the Middle!) to discuss in depth how conflict can lead to deeper connection, whether it be with your spouse, extended family or even with your kiddos!  Don’t miss this episode. 114. How to Find Hope when your (Extended) Family Falls Apart
114. Have you ever been in a situation where there was “family friction?” Perhaps it even felt like your family was falling apart? This scenario often plays out behind closed doors and our hearts ache alone in the silence.  Today’s podcast guest, Julie Plagens is no stranger to the hurt. In fact, after years of family friction, hurt and being diagnosed with Crohn's disease, Julie felt the need to completely separate from her extended family, so that her heart, body and mind could heal.  After 7 years apart, Julie prayed some big prayers and fasted as she sought the Lord’s guidance on her next steps forward. God chose to answer those prayers through reconciliation and healing.  Tune in to the podcast today, to hear all the details from the “in between” season of Julie’s life. She’s also sharing how YOU can experience hope when you feel like your own (extended) family is falling apart.  With deep faith and great JOY, Katie   Find today’s show notes and links at KatieHedrick.com/114 ————————— Are you loving the wisdom on the podcast and ready to grow even deeper in your faith and personal life? 113. The Pursuit of Holiness (instead of Happiness)
113. Do you ever feel like the world is screaming “Do what makes you happy?” Or “Do whatever feels good?”  We’re being fed a lie that what matters most in this life is the pursuit of happiness. But the pursuit of happiness is not what matters most. Can we be happy? Yes. But happiness and genuine joy, it comes from a greater, deeper, richer source. Happiness comes as a result of pursuing… Holiness.  Join me on the podcast today as I share what it looks like to journey through this life in pursuit of holiness, rather than in pursuit of happiness. 112. Do You Hear what I Hear? The TRUTH about Who's Whispering in your Ear!
112. The enemy loves to whisper in our ear. He does it through the media. We just spent over a year being fed lies that we should be afraid. He does it through social media. Hello? The comparison game… the belief in your head that you don’t measure up to so and so’s perfect Instagram worthy life?!  He does it through people you don’t even know… strangers, haters. When you put yourself out there, you’re gonna get haters and it will feed your mind the belief that you’re not capable of doing whatever it is that you’re putting yourself out there with. (I’ve got first hand experience with this one!) Who else is in your ear and feeding your mind? Have you got friends pressuring you to do things you know you shouldn’t be, or don’t want to be doing? Is your extended family feeding you a lie that you should feel guilty about this or that, even though you KNOW in your heart it’s what God wants for you?!  The enemy will speak through all these sources and more!  Join me over on the podcast today as I spell out the truth about who’s whispering in your ear!  With deep faith and great JOY, Katie   Find today’s show notes and links at KatieHedrick.com/112  ————————— Are you loving the wisdom on the podcast and ready to grow even deeper in your faith and personal life? 111. Let's Grow, Girl... Your Breakthrough is Waiting!! 5 Ways to Set yourself up for Success on your Growth Journey
111. I don’t know about you, but my husband and I are polar opposites. He’s a risk taker, a “fly by the seat of your pants” kinda guy. As for me, I’m a planner and more of a “play it safe” girl, but there’s one area where our personalities overlap… We are both passionate about growth. And being stretched. And stepping outside of our comfort zone, even though it can feel scary sometimes.  So when my husband and I went on an epic cross country journey to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary a few years back, I should probably have known better than to do what I did. I gave my husband one job… ONE JOB. I’d planned the entire trip from Iowa to South Carolina to Tennessee, but I left ONE job up to Chad. “Babe, book us a zip line while we’re in the Smoky Mountains. I’m gonna be brave and do this with you.” I tossed him a brochure that had a small zip line course that overlooked beautiful waterfalls. Romantic right?! What I didn’t know was there was a second zip line course and it was called “The Goliath Line.” It was 475 feet high and the passenger travels at over 55 mph. “We’re booked,” Chad told me. I had NO idea what was ahead… We showed up at the Zip line check in. “You’re down for the Goliath line,” our guide told us. I turned white, my eyes got huge and my stomach churned. I looked at Chad. He smiled at me. I had a moment of insanity andecided then and there I would do this thing.  We zipped a couple of “starter” lines. When it was my turn to jump off the first platform, I thought I was going to throw up. And this was like, the baby line. I didn’t want to look like a total chicken in front of the group that was zipping with us, plus I really DID want to have this experience with my husband, so I held my breath… and jumped. I made it to the other side alive and I decided zipping was actually pretty awesome.  We finally got to the last zipline of the tour… the GOLIATH. It was bigger, badder, longer, higher, SCARIER than I had even imagined. My prior thoughts about zip lining being awesome were completely diminished at that moment.   I watched my husband jump with total delight into the vast sky, 475 feet above thousands of acres of the Smoky Mountain National Park. If I remember right, I’m pretty sure he even went “upside down” on PURPOSE. And then… It was my turn. There was no turning back. My legs trembled. My stomach flipped. Heights are one of my greatest challenges. I wanted to cry. I wanted to back away from the edge. But I didn’t. Instead, I jumped. I jumped because I knew it would cause me to grow.  And friend, I didn’t just grow a little bit, I grew a lot as I SOARED over the tree tops.  It was silent and peaceful. It was surreal. I felt (physically) the closet to God that I ever had in my life. The forest below me was a lush green carpet. The heavens surrounded me. I wanted to stay in that moment forever.  When I landed, I was CHANGED. What would you have done in that situation, friend? Are you in a place, hungry enough for growth in your life that you would make that jump too?  I know that you are. So join me on the podcast today, where I’m sharing about 5 ways that you can set yourself up for success on your growth journey. 108. The Secret of Life (Hint: It's a Biblical Principle)
108. Psst…  Want to know a secret? (I had to learn it the hard way.) #facepalm My husband and I had to walk through fire to learn this secret. I mean… we almost crumbled. We almost lost everything. It was bad. There were days where I struggled to breathe, actually. But those moments were necessary to learn the secret and if we hadn’t learned it, I’m convinced we’d still be stuck living out a nightmare.  I’m so glad that the Lord leaned in while we were at rock bottom to speak this secret into our hearts. It took learning and implementing His wisdom before we could begin climbing our way out of the dark hole we found ourselves in.  What is the secret? It’s tucked away within the scripture, in Matthew 25:14-30. You don’t have to learn it the hard way like I did, Sis. 106. To the Exhausted, Busy Mom with a Teachable and Hungry Heart (Tips to THRIVE! - Part 1)
106. As my word of the year “Relatable,” continues to tug at my heartstrings, I felt prompted to reach back into my own early, blurry days of motherhood and share some of my rookie mistakes with you. Geesh, I made a lot. That first kiddo feels like such an experiment, right? I remember feeling so lonely, overwhelmed and completely unqualified and unequipped to excel at motherhood. Mix that with the unrealistic expectations I had set for myself, along with my desire for control and perfection and let me just say…. It was a recipe for one heck of a hot mess mom! Thankfully, the Lord began to whisper to my heart and I grew in wisdom. (I’m still growing, let’s be real!)  These days, there is a lot more intention, peace and joy in my motherhood… all because the Lord opened my eyes to what it’s all about, as well as WHO I really am. I’m a daughter before I’m even a mom. You are too, Sis! We can rest in that. Yes and amen!
