StarterCast Ep11 – Ketan Rehangdale with Joox Music
StarterCast Ep11 – Ketan Rehangdale with Joox Music The music industry has changed drastically over the last 10 years. The landscape across all media has completely ripped the profits from the artists themselves. The worst part is, most consumers just don’t understand how difficult it is for the rising artists. The radio and television shows have given the impression to the consumers that all the pop stars make millions of dollars. Unfortunately, the ones who are starting from the beginning have no access to these millions of dollars that the major pop stars are getting. And, a company right here in Orlando is trying to change that for everyone involved. We want to hear your story. Share a time that you pushed through the difficulties to accomplish a goal that you had or are currently facing. Send it to StarterCast@gmail.com and we will share it on next week’s episode. We also mentioned Starter Studio’s Demo Days and Orlando Tech Week. The Interview This week we talk to Ketan Rehangdale, the CEO and founder of Joox Music – a brand new platform that connects artist with their fans, and their fans with the artists. The innovation brought to the music industry has helped the consumer, but killed the profits for the artist. That’s where Joox comes in. Ketan also has an impressive resume that you can easily find online.. StarterCast Ep10 – Merchant services made easy
StarterCast Ep10 – Merchant services made easy Orlando is bursting at the seams with ideas and innovation that are changing the world. Along with that a growing community and culture that gives Central Florida its own identity apart from the theme parks it inhabits. In the last year Orlando has introduced a new rail commuter line, a new multimillion dollar performing arts center, a professional soccer team, and an art festival that will be the envy of every other city for years to come (Creative City Project). Our food scene is growing national attention and the city has plans to open Creative Village downtown to facilitate all of these amazing ideas. It’s all thanks to those who dare to dream and just try that are making these changes happen. The people who are taking on the challenge of being just a little different in order to accomplish a goal that will better the lives of others. We want to hear your story. Share a time that you pushed through the difficulties to accomplish a goal that you had or are currently facing. Send it to StarterCast@gmail.com and we will share it on next week’s episode. StarterCast Ep9 – Focus: The outside world is unpredictable
Episode 9 – Focus: The outside world is unpredictable. I apologize for the delay in releasing this episode. I was actually in a motorcycle accident on Monday that has shifted my whole week around. You can never truly prepare yourself for every situation. So, you need to have a plan that allows for pitfalls and mistakes. You can adjust to outside influences, even beyond your control (like a motorcycle accident) and be able to still accomplish your goals. You have to keep your eye on the prize in order to get where you want to be. We want to hear your story. Share a time that you pushed through the difficulties to accomplish a goal that you had or are currently facing. Send it to StarterCast@gmail.com and we will share it on next week’s episode. We also mentioned Starter Studio’s Demo Days in the interview. Tickets have just gone on sale this week. The Interview This week we spoke with Casey Jenks who is creating Fit Bot – a medium between personal trainers and their clients and help the personal trainer maintain current data for each client in one spot. His company is actually the youngest so far without even having a product to even test. This was quite interesting as he was still so passionate about where he knew Fit Bot could be and how he could be the one to get it there. Episode 8 – The The most common piece of advice we get from almost every single start is perseverance. When things start to get tough, push through it. StarterCast Ep7 – Team Building
Episode 7 – Team Building We started this project with only a very loose connection to each other – we were all UCF students. But, as we peeled back the onion, we found other properties that we shared. We also used our strengths to produce amazing results in a short time. We are working on creating some even better content, but we need your help. Send us your thoughts and ideas of how to improve the show to StarterCast@gmail.com. The Interview This week we interview the amazing Joshua Immel and Terrence Donnelly – the founders of Teeps. The two of them met through traveling in a band and Terrence actually self-taught himself in the back of a van. Teeps is a mobile app development company who have worked with some of the biggest names in Orlando tech community like Code School and Clink. Terrence was recently interviewed for his insight on wearable technology by Fox 35. They also created Fabric for UCF starters to connect with each other. We used Fabric to create our team for StarterCast. StarterCast Ep6 – Explore and Discover
Episode 6 – Explore and Discover Orlando as a whole is really moving forward in innovation and self-discovery. The rising art and food scene is being dwarfed by the emergence of the entrepreneurial revolution happening right before our eyes. The city is transforming former abandoned buildings into tech hubs that are leading the way in this uprising. The Interview This week we meet one of the initiators of StarterCast. Alex Hernandez helped us get off our feet and put this show in front of people. He is trying to change the way people find their trade skilled work with Rapido. Rapido is an interface that allows home owners to reach a number of different businesses in real time with fast results. It was originally accepted into Starter Studio under the name Bahumut and had a much different. Alex actually introduced us to Canvs coworking space in downtown Orlando. StarterCast Ep 5: The Required Awkward Conversations
Episode 5 – The Required Awkward Conversations Creating the proper landscape from the beginning will always help in the structure of your business as it grows. We discuss that this week as we find each other’s intensions of the future of StarterCast. We understand how important the legal aspect is in any business and share our own stories. The Interview This week we interview Bill McNeil of AutoRetainer – an automated form generator and invoicing system for attorneys and other business owners. His insight on the business world was refreshing. AutoRetainer was accepted into Starter Studio this January. We met him at Canvs coworking space in downtown Orlando. We didn’t have a meeting pre-arranged, so the entire conversation was off the cuff. StarterCast Ep4: Spread the Word!
Episode 4 – Spread the Word! We have to find our listeners and how to reach them. We have to find a way to get in front of as many people as possible who want to hear the stories of other starters and learn from their journeys. We are looking at every opportunity to talk with those interested in what we have to share. We created more questions for ourselves without having the answers. And we missed the train. Literally, we missed SunRail at the station! The Interview This week we interviewed Phil Santos of Body//Talk, a monthly dance party for Orlando residents into alternative lifestyles. His community has spread to nearly 500 subscribers with almost 250 attendees to each event. Phil is also a DJ who goes by the name VSN QST. Phil is a performer and a member of the UCF Blackstone Launchpad. His focus on his Tribe is contagious. http://whatsgoodtho.com/ is not live yet. StarterCast Ep3 Where to Find the Time!
Episode 3 – Where to Find the Time! We had to figure out how to work together even though we had different schedules, and lived in different locations. We had to get organized in order to make sure we had a finished product every week. We created a system that was based on deadlines and focused on each other’s strengths to provide the best possible content we could. We also introduced you to our Editor and Co-Producer, Anthony Nyantakyi. We discuss the difficulties of our first episode and how we overcame them. Creating a plan that we could all see and follow helped solidify what our expectations were. The Interview This week we interviewed Milka Derisma who created BygShift.com in 45 days. Her site went from just an idea to now serving more than 200 people in 90 days! It’s quite simple. She just started. She hit several speedbumps and had to pivot more than once, but she started! She found a way to create this wonderful tool for transfer students even with her full class load. She wrote several pages of content, contacted advisors and influencers in multiple schools, and helped design BygShift.com in her first semester. And, she didn’t even get accepted into UCF until eight days before the start of the semester. StarterCast Ep2: Why did we start this?
Episode 2 – Why did we start this? We found a hardship almost immediately after launching our test episode. Remember the sponsorship we thought we had? Well, we did not have it. But, with the support of my team, we continued on. And thanks to the encouragement of other starters in our community, we pushed on to find our voice. We found the need and desire of our listeners that helped guide the format used today. The Interview This week we interviewed Funlola Falade, who started his entrepreneurial journey in a haze of accomplishments from the JOUST – a UCF business model competition - to the actual International Business Model Competition. He was in a spot that most of us dream of at that point in our venture. But, he came to a realization that it wasn’t worth losing his life over.
