”WHY CHRISTIAN: Why Jesus?” (Readings from the Gospel of John) - Rev Mark Feldmeir - January 22, 2023
Why Christian: Finding Faith When You Can’t Believe Anymore You see the beauty of God and you can’t say no.  But you see the messiness of religion and you can’t say yes.  The awe and wonder of life make it almost impossible not to believe.  But the ache and evil of the world make it utterly irrational to believe.  Maybe you were promised that Christianity would resolve life’s paradoxes and answer your deepest questions, only to discover that it unearthed even deeper and more unanswerable ones, like: Who is Jesus and why did he really come?  What is salvation and what are we actually saved from?  Who are Christians and why do too many of them seem so un-Christian?  What is the Bible and how are we supposed to read it in the modern world?  What is the meaning and purpose of life and where is all of this headed? It turns out, Christianity is not a religion of finite answers.  Christianity is an ongoing conversation about the infinite possibilities of experiencing God in the beauty and the mess of life, the awe and the ache of the world. If you’re inclined to say no to religion, you can still say yes to the conversation.  Join us for this provocative new series, “Why Christian”— a generous five-week conversation about how we might still find faith even when we can’t believe anymore. Jan 15:             Why Christianity? Jan 22:             Why Jesus? Jan 29              Why Church? Feb 5:              Why the Bible? Feb 12:            Why Hope?

”UNTO US - The Child” (Luke 2) - Rev Mark Feldmeir - December 24, 2022
ADVENT SERIES DESCRIPTION: On those living in the pitch-black darkness of a long forgotten place, where spirits were dimmed and hopes were dashed and the future grew bleak and the world grew weary of itself, a light finally shined. At first distant and faint, it rose quietly over the people like the dawning of the sun, until deep shadows gave way to sunbursts of light, and weeping gave way to outbursts of joy, and divine absence gave way to glad presence at the sound of a baby’s first cry. The Christmas story is about a promise fulfilled, an age-old prophecy come to pass. Unto the ancients before us and now unto us and everyone who comes after us, into every pitch-dark place that ever has been and ever will be, a light shines eternally in the form of a child given—a Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace—who calls us to walk in the light and love of God. Join us this Advent as we wait for the light and welcome the child who meets us where we are and leads us by the way that leads to the kindom of God.

”Sowing The Seeds”- Magnanimity: The Selflessness of Sacrifice (1 Corinthians 3:4-9) - November 20, 2022
SERMON SERIES DESCRIPTION: We all harvest from fields we did not scatter seed.  We all reap where we did not sow.  We all gather from orchards and vineyards where we did not plant.   Someone before us had the vision and foresight to work the land and till the soil and plant the seeds and harvest the fruit.  This is the call of every generation and the holy task of every follower of Christ.  Just as we inherit abundance from our ancestors, so too do we sow seeds and plant fields for those who come after us to feast abundantly on God’s grace and promise. As we move into our annual stewardship season, we’ll explore how to cultivate the keenness of insight that makes generosity possible, the audacity of generosity that enlarges our own souls, and the selflessness of generosity that can transform the world for future generations.

“What Does the Lord Require of You? Justice, Kindness, and Humility for the Common Good”- Week 5: Walk Humbly With God (Micah 6:6-8) - October 30, 2022
When we look at the world, the problems can seem so big and we can feel so small that we begin to wonder if we can make any difference at all. Nothing in the world is as it should be—as God intended it to be—and there are so many competing interests and voices trying to keep it that way. Where do we even begin? What core values and common commitments can ground us in the work of co-creating a world God has envisioned since the beginning of time—a world of shalom in which all of creation flourishes? As we move into another predictably divisive and polarizing election cycle, we’ll explore Micah’s famous mandate “to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with our God.” What does true justice look like? How can kindness shape our words and actions as we work for the common good? Is there a place for humility in the public and political arena? Join us for this challenging and timely series as we explore what the Lord requires of us for such a time as this.

“HOW ARE YOU, REALLY? - Being Well: 4 Practices for Wholeness of Life ... God-Pursuing” (Psalm 27) - September 25, 2022
“How are you?” It’s the most common question in all the world, in every culture: “Como esta?” “Comment allez-vous?” “Come Va?” “Wutz poppin?” “Wassabi?” How are you? Because it’s the most common question we’re apt to hear, it invariably leads to the most halfhearted, guarded, disingenuous answers we’re apt to give: “Great.” “Good.” “Fine.” “Okay.” “Hanging in there.” “Can’t complain.” “Living the dream.” But still, how are you really? How you answer this question is of profound important to God, and in this series, we’ll look at four essential spiritual practices that promise to cultivate wholeness, joy, and zest for life: How are you really? If you’re less than well, you’re not alone. Join us for this life-giving series as we commit ourselves to being well by drawing from the endless well of God’s grace.
