S1 E15: Soul Brother Mike on Soul City TV
Pleased to share episode 15 of the Soul City Music Co-op Podcast, out today! In this episode, you’ll hear the latest live-stream from Soul Brother Mike, originally broadcast on October 17, 2020. This episode features a lot of the tunes Mike typically plays with The Family Soul, including music from Freddie King, Earl King, Toots and the Maytals, and Reggie B. We had our usual chats throughout the show about things like the importance of having a handyman in your bubble (as we had our car battery die AND a minor plumbing emergency that week), the opening scene of a music video that we started filming that week, and the merits of peach drink over orange drink. If you enjoyed this live-stream and want to watch it with the original video, check it out below or over on the Soul City Music Co-op Facebook Page.Find the podcast on Spotify, Apple, Google, and Stitcher, with this handy link:smarturl.it/soulcitymusiccoopAnd if there’s a podcasting app you like to use but you can’t find us on it, let me know and I’ll do my best to get it up there for you!

S1 E13: Soul Brother Mike on Soul City TV
The latest episode of the Soul City Music Co-op Podcast is out today! Can’t believe we are already at episode 13!In this episode, we’re listening to the latest live-stream performance from Soul Brother Mike. Because we’ve been keeping busy with grants, applications, music videos, recording, and marketing, Mike didn’t get a whole lot of time to practice for this week’s stream, so we did a lot of talking. I especially enjoyed sharing about finally falling in love with a piece of Phoebe Bridgers, and the conversation that sprang forth about truth, originality, and songwriting. It’s conversations like these that made me want to start a podcast with Mike several years ago. When we eventually did begin podcasting with Get Collected back in 2016, we didn’t get to include too much spontaneity because we kept our episodes very short, so I’m really glad that we’re able to capture that vibe in the longer format of our live-streams. If you enjoyed this live-stream and want to watch it with the original video, check it out below or over on Soul Brother Mike’s Facebook page.Find the podcast on Spotify, Apple, Google, and Stitcher, with this handy link:smarturl.it/soulcitymusiccoopAnd if there’s a podcasting app you like to use but you can’t find us on it, let me know and I’ll do my best to get it up there for you!

S1 E12: Crissi Cochrane on Soul City TV
This week’s podcast is out now! In it, you’ll hear my latest live-stream performance from Saturday, September 26, where I played two new-to-the-stream songs on ukulele - my first time ever playing the ukulele live! - and once again, attempting to cover Madeline Doornaert’s amazingly beautiful song, Muddy Water.I’m super relieved to report that, this time around, our Zoom recorder captured the live show audio very clearly, so the quality you hear here is the equivalent to what we hear in our headphones in the studio when we are live. (Last week’s audio came in with all the top end rolled off, and it was a nightmare to EQ it - this week, it was so easy to make this podcast, I could cry with relief). If you enjoyed this live-stream and want to watch it with the original video, check it out below or on Facebook! This stream occurred on my own page instead of the Soul City one, so you can find it at facebook.com/crissicochrane. Find the podcast on Spotify, Apple, Google, and Stitcher, with this handy link:smarturl.it/soulcitymusiccoopAnd if there’s a podcasting app you like to use but you can’t find us on it, let me know and I’ll do my best to get it up there for you!

S1 E11: Soul Brother Mike on Soul City TV
Phew! I’m writing this podcast after midnight. (Though, by the time everything finishes exporting, I will probably have fallen asleep, and will be publishing this sometime in the morning.) I had meant to do it yesterday, but now that the weather has become cooler, it seems all I want to do is knit in front of the TV! Still, there are only so many episodes of “Cobra Kai” one can watch in a single sitting. So, here it is - the latest live-stream from Soul Brother Mike! In this episode, Mike shared quite a few songs from his 2017 album Learn To Vibe, most of which hadn’t been heard on this stream before. It was a fun treat to remember all the harmony parts that Mike wrote for those songs, and the very special release show that we held to celebrate it, which was basically the birth of Mike’s latest band, The Family Soul. We reminisced about all that and more in this episode. All set up and ready to begin the stream! Join us at https://t.co/JHMhlZWedr from now until 10pm ET! #yqg #livestream #cdnmusic pic.twitter.com/eYUMF55lLg— Crissi Cochrane (@CrissiCochrane) September 20, 2020 If you enjoyed this live-stream and want to watch it with the original video, check it out below or on the Soul City Music Co-op Facebook page!Find the podcast on Spotify, Apple, Google, and Stitcher, with this handy link:smarturl.it/soulcitymusiccoopAnd if there’s a podcasting app you like to use but you can’t find us on it, let me know and I’ll do my best to get it up there for you!

We are officially into double digits! I am having so much fun making this podcast, and I’m so grateful to you for being along for the ride! Catch up on my most recent live-stream, which was one of my very favourites, of all the streams I’ve done since we started Soul City TV back in March. I showed off my new harp, covered Rihanna’s 2003 hit song “Umbrella” which I used to cover back when I livd in Halifax, and I generally had a really fun and laid-back time with Mike and a glass of red wine.If you enjoyed this live-stream and want to watch it with the original video, check it out below or on the Soul City Music Co-op Facebook page!Find the podcast on Spotify, Apple, Google, and Stitcher, with this handy link:smarturl.it/soulcitymusiccoopAnd if there’s a podcasting app you like to use but you can’t find us on it, let me know and I’ll do my best to get it up there for you!

S1 E8: Crissi Cochrane on Soul City TV
Apologies for not posting my usual “Replay” blog post after Saturday night’s live-stream - we ended up having a socially-distanced porch hang after the show, and then I decided I would simply combine that post with this one, heralding the latest Soul City Music Co-op Podcast episode featuring the stream! In this show, I started off with some Stevie Wonder, and played a Frank Sinatra song soon after, which I dedicated to my grandfather, since it was his 79th birthday and he happened to be watching with my folks in Nova Scotia. I owe him a great debt in shaping the sound that I make today, so I was really pleased to be able to play a crooner classic for him!I also showcased a never-before-heard song called “It’s Good” that even Mike hadn’t heard before. I wrote it back around 2014 and have never played it anywhere. In the bridge, I briefly break into a mashup with Roberta Flack’s “Killing Me Softly” (admittedly with some Lauryn Hill/Fugees vibes, too). I took another shot at my new song “Why”, and I think it’s definitely improving! And towards the end of the show, I played my 2007 song “Elevators”, from my debut 2010 album Darling, Darling (which is available for digital download in the shop.)We are streaming! About to begin at 9pm ET. S1 E5: Soul Brother Mike on Soul City TV
It’s a quiet evening (9:48PM on Monday as I write), and I’m struggling to keep my eyes open! I had hoped to do a couple fun projects tonight, but our toddler decided to stay up crying for about 90 minutes after her bedtime, requiring endless songs and hugs and kisses, completely sapping all our remaining energy for the day.But nevertheless, I recorded Episode 5 of the Soul City Music Co-op Podcast today, and I’ve got to get it out the door! This episode features the live-stream that Mike played this past Saturday night. We talked a fair amount about all the video work that we’ve been doing lately, and Mike shared some new tunes, including one that he’d written the day before the live-stream. We also did a lot of duets in the second half of the show. Last week, I realized it was really simple to submit my podcast to podcasting apps besides Apple Podcasts, so I went ahead and submitted the show to Stitcher, Spotify, and Google Play. It’s currently available on all of those platforms except Google Play, but I’m hoping that, with this newest episode, they’ll start catching our feed. If you listen to podcasts on a different platform, reach out and let me know, and I’ll do my best to get the show added there as well!I’ve corralled all the links to the show on different platforms with this handy smart URL:smarturl.it/soulcitymusiccoopIf you enjoyed this episode and wanted to watch the video that went along with it, you can see Mike’s live-stream on the Soul City Music Co-op Facebook page, or watch it below.Oh, and one last note. I regret that the audio quality of the live-stream wasn’t as great as I’d have liked for this podcast. We had a cable die on us just as we were starting the show on Saturday night, and had to use the one that was originally designated for feeding the audio to a recorder for this episode, so, I had to rip the audio from the Facebook video instead. We also noticed that there was a delay between the video and the audio on the Facebook stream, so we’ll be doing some testing this week to figure out the culprit in advance of my live-stream this Saturday night (August 8).

S1 E4: Crissi Cochrane on Soul City TV
Very pleased to be sharing my latest live-stream in this week’s episode of the Soul City Music Co-op Podcast! Enjoy one hour of tunes from yours truly, which was originally broadcast on July 11, 2020. In this show, I talked about changing the jazz standard I play, “The Gypsy”, to “The Mystic”. “Gypsy” is considered a slur against Romani people, and so, I decided it was time to either cut the song from my repertoire, or find an alternate word. It’s hard when it’s the title of the song, but I finally have settled on “The Mystic”. I also played my first protest song, “One World Or None”, in this episode, which I hadn’t played in years. If you enjoyed the audio and want to watch the video, you can find that on the Soul City Music Co-op Facebook page.

S1 E3: Brendan Scott Friel on Soul City TV
With this third episode, I finally get to move on to submitting this show to Apple Podcasts! Fingers crossed that it goes well. From there, dozens of other podcasting platforms take their programming directly from Apple, so it’s a one-stop shop for us. I’ll keep you posted on our progress! In this third episode, I’m very excited to present to you the latest live-stream from Brendan Scott Friel. This show aired on his Facebook page on May 30, and was presented with financial support from the City of Windsor’s Arts, Culture and Heritage Fund. This is both his latest and also his first ever live-stream, so he made several endearing observations throughout about the strangeness of this new medium, but otherwise you’d never have known he was nervous. He delivered such a flawless and beautiful performance (as usual!) and sang some covers, some songs from his 2017 album Quiet Cars, and some brand-new songs that are currently being recorded for his next album. If you enjoyed listening to Brendan’s stream but you want to take it one step further and see the video too, you can find it on his Facebook page, or watch it here:So please, put out some good vibes for me in my quest to get this podcast into your favourite official channels! In the mean time, you can find the show right here on my humble blog, as well as on the Soul City Music Co-op YouTube page. Please don’t forget to hit “subscribe” - once we reach 100 followers, we can get ourselves a nice pretty vanity URL! And while I have you here, I’d also like to remind you that myself and Soul Brother Mike were invited to produce an hour long (plus) virtual concert for Bluesfest Windsor, that’ll be airing this Saturday night at 8PM ET on the Bluesfest YouTube channel. These concerts were a lot of fun to produce and are definitely a step up from our live-streams (which were already setting the bar pretty high to begin with!). Hope you can tune in live - or if not, you can always catch the replay!

S1 E2: Madeline Doornaert on Soul City TV
I’m very pleased to be presenting the second episode of the Soul City Music Co-op Podcast today! In episode two, we’ll be listening to a live-stream concert from Madeline Doornaert, a very talented and hard-working young singer-songwriter. In this show, which originally aired on June 27 on Facebook, she’s joined by her partner in music and in life, Dane Roberts, and together, their music is simply divine. Madeline and Dane did their first live-stream together back in May, and Mike and I were both really struck by how powerful it is to hear voices harmonizing together during the pandemic, when so many of us can’t be together. It’s really a beautiful thing. I especially love Madeline’s selection of songs - so many great classics from the 60s and 70s that are very near and dear to my own heart. If hearing this show isn’t enough and you’d like to see it for yourself, please find Madeline Doornaert on Facebook, or watch it below! You can also find this episode of the podcast over on our YouTube channel.

S1 E1: Soul Brother Mike on Soul City TV
I’m very excited to announce that I am officially creating a podcast on behalf of the Soul City Music Co-op! And this here blog posts serves as the first of the three episodes I need to create in order to submit this podcast for syndication to Apple Podcasts and a whole host of other podcasting platforms. I loved the podcast that Mike and I used to make a few years ago, but it was so much work for us to come up with exciting content to share, and once I got pregnant, we decided it was a good excuse to move into an indefinite hiatus. But coming up with content won’t be a problem this time, because the co-op is constantly creating content with our regular live-stream concerts and Radio Hour broadcasts on Facebook! My main goal in this podcast is making it easy for our audience to catch up on our latest streams. I’ll be hosting each episode, introducing the show you’ll hear, and at the end of the show, I’ll be saying a few words to explain what our artists are up to, and share some clips of new releases.Without further ado, I am so pleased to present to you Season One, Episode One, a re-broadcast of Soul Brother Mike’s latest live-stream, originally broadcast this past Saturday, July 4, 2020. This was actually an unusual show, because I was absent from the studio almost the entire time. Our two-year-old decided she really didn’t want to go to bed, so I was on mommy duty and couldn’t be in both places at once. And then… we made a tiny mistake. As soon as the show ended, Mike went into daddy mode, and I started exporting the audio from the show… and we both forgot to hit “Post” on Mike’s phone, so the livestream just vanished. It’s the only time we’ve ever failed to post the show after it happened. It’s sad, but I’m glad I at least remembered to record the audio for the podcast, so you can hear it here!In the coming days, I’m hoping to create podcasts with some other recent live-streams from the co-op. I’m especially excited about capturing Radio Hour, because we’ve been having trouble airing the show on Facebook. When we submit our music releases to Spotify, Apple, and all those good places, our music also gets distributed into content-matching databases, which prevent others from re-posting our music illegally and infringing our copyright, but it also means that they prevent us from using our own music on the Soul City Facebook page. Which is why, if you’ve ever tried to listen to an old episode of Radio Hour on Facebook, all of the music is muted, and all you can hear is a couple seconds of Mike talking every few minutes. Unfortunately it’s extremely difficult to get around these content-matching databases (which, really, is a good thing 99% of the time), but we’re optimistic that podcasting will be a more convenient medium for us. After all… we DO have permission to use our OWN music! Imagine that. So: please enjoy the episode above, or below on our YouTube channel (please subscribe!), until we manage to get the show officially syndicated - fingers crossed that I can figure all this out on my own! Send me all your good vibes ✨ ✨ ✨
