Episode #33 - Tiny Houses and a Mexican Restaurant
IT’S BRITNEY, BITCH! I’m sorry, let me fix that… IT’S THE ‘SORTING IT OUT PODCAST’, FRIENDS!... BITCH!No, of course we don’t condone the ‘B’ word in the derogatory sense. But we also don’t condone leaving the airwaves so empty for such a long time. So Just like Britney, the ‘Sorting It Out Podcast’ is back, betterer than everer, and kicking the content up another level and into the next gear… 7th gear. And what can you expect from the new and improved season 2? All the fun that made last season, plus more. Episode #33 finds the crew returning to get serious about cultural appropriation and ask some not so easy questions after a run in with some rainbow coloured sombreros. What cultural boundaries are we crossing in our day to day lives? Are there grey areas when it comes to ‘cultural-permission’ or are all things defined in the absolute? I’ll be honest, this one gets heated.    Now more than ever, the 'SIOP' is playing for answers, and trying to change and inform ourselves to be more considerate human beings is the name of the game.

Episode #32 - EGG BOY
If an Australian terrorist killing innocent women, men, and children at prayer isn’t a sobering enough moment; enter the goose-stepping Fraser Anning to deliver some words of… anti-wisdom? Pro white supremacism? Dip-shittery?    Though, there is some solos in knowing that for every Fraser Anning a boy with an egg isn’t far behind. So, whip out that crusty old frying pan, warm up that whisking wrist and starts’a cracking, because the ‘Sorting It Out’ Podcast is talking infamous shell slingers, and we’re not leaving without omelettes.  All egg puns aside (and believe me, they will be many) this weeks episode asks just what ‘Egg Boy’ is doing for the conversation surrounding white supremacy and anti-Muslim rhetoric? Are his exploits taking the issue to a wider audience? Will chicken period projectiles help to change perspectives in the years to come? Honestly, I really hope so.Yet, the ‘SIOP’ crew isn’t eggsaggerating by saying, “there’s no eggsact way of knowing these things”. We’re not here to eggsacerbate problems either. But, if a sentiment of fun seems a little too soon, all we can say is that we love you New Zealand. To all our Muslim brothers and sisters, we love you and we are with you. Those gone are not forgotten.

Episode #30 - Separating Content from Controversy
It’s time to break that hiatus and cover all your social media platforms, because the ‘Sorting It Out Podcast’ is live again to tackle controversial content. With recent backlash against Australian musical outfit Sticky Fingers, this weeks instalment forces a clinical discussion of law and morality.  Is it possible to separate creators from their transgressions and controversies? Are some artists overlooked or given clemency for mistakes they’ve made? If so, why? Before answering, and at the advice of our legal team, we’ve been directed to not say anything without council present. With that in mind, sitting in on episode #30 is the always and ever so brilliant Bianca, a good friend of the podcast and seasoned paralegal. The ‘SIOP’ would also like to address speculation that has risen over the past month and formally apologise. The quantity and ferocity of farting that occurred in previous recordings, from one or several of its hosts, was inappropriate and moreover, tremendously stinky. In all seriousness though, from moments of flatulence to the kind of allegations made against the likes of artists such as Chris Brown, Kevin Spacey and Michael Jackson, let’s get honest; how do we celebrate content while simultaneously valuing what is consider wrong and right? All questions aside, what’s certain is that in a world where people abuse power and position, the act of not forgetting and maintaining accountability is forever up for discussion. So, let’s talk!

Him and his father are taking on one hell of a challenge as they plan to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro this year, will they be prepared, will they get altitude sickness, will they provide Chris with vegetarian options and most importantly has his past hiking experience prepared him for this monstrous task.Spoiler alert... he reckons he will be alright.

Episode #26 - Wearing Make-up?
Are you ok? You look ill! Did you sleep well? Have you forgotten to put make-up on? Or maybe, just maybe, someone else’s appearance is nobody’s business but their own. So why ask? Why care? More importantly, what’s with the 3rd degree? Lay off the questions, geez.  This week’s episode washes clean the layers of eye shadow, bronzer and foundation in attempt to understand the many uses of cosmetics. For Caine and Tom, the concept couldn’t be more of a mystery. In order to really bring out our minds-eyes, Gemma and Brenna (Two amazing and hardworking humans) are gracing the microphones; sharing insight and their own experiences with make-up socially and professionally.   And like I said before, hey, people’s outward aesthetic is none of my business. But there no doubt exists a pressure on people (women especially) to conceal themselves and meet “standards”; expectations plastered on billboards, shouted from every movie and magazine that has an audience. Truly, the whole thing feels icky; a nasty and malicious attack on our insecurities and vulnerabilities as people; people just trying to be accepted. So as corny as this sounds, the ‘Sorting It Out Podcast’ is here to remind not only ourselves but everyone that we are all beautiful, make-up or none. And that sometimes, asking important questions and caring about the answers involves everyone.

Episode #24 - Getting Out and About
(WARNING: Contains ‘The O.C.’ spoilers…)  ‘Sorting It Out Podcast’ here we come, right back where we started from, sorting oouuuuuutttttttt… That’s right all you beautiful SIOP listeners, I finally get to insert O.C. references throughout an episode bio. ‘Why’s that’, I hear you ask? Well just like Ryan Atwood fresh out of the pool house in the streets of Newport (probs burning down houses am I right?), this weeks latest adventure has seen our loveable hosts glimpse all the flash and fancy living in the Mornington Peninsula.    To be completely honest though, Tom was filming a music video and we only really happened to see some people wearing expensive white clothes and hanging out at a beachside pub after a pollo tournament. But come on, how freaking O.C. is that right?!  Not to be confused though, this weeks instalment is less about trust funds and more about the natural richness in the world around us. From secluded beaches to once in a life time sunsets, episode #24 is an ode to our latest adventure along the Victorian coastline.  So why not tune in, forget about the cotillion and bring along a new friend… maybe someone that our parents don’t approve of, who will inevitably shake up this town forever and it’ll last four seasons with a finale season that isn’t very good, probably because Seth (Cohen!) doesn’t really want to play his character anymore, he’s just comic relief anyways, and OMG Marissa Died in a car accident because that STUPID ASSHOLE SURFER WAS….. Sorry folks…. I’m being such a Summer right now.

Episode #23 - New Year Same Shit
2018 IS OVER MOTHERF@#KEEEERRRRSSS!!! A WHAT WHAAAAAAA!!! With all the excitement of the coming year the ‘Sorting It Out Podcast’ is claiming prime position for the fireworks and getting sufficiently drunk to help bring you in to 2019.  Ep. #23 sees a lightshow of nostalgia and all the highs and lows of the last 12 months. With so much reflection, we can’t help but then look forwards and think biggerer… and betterer. But should we be careful about the promises we make to ourselves? Why are resolutions restricted to a certain moment in our revolution around a burning star? Who knows? As always answers are no guarantee, but with everything from epiphanies on the Murray river to accidental exposure while hitch-hiking, hilarity and some weird ass stories are a shoo-in.     So, bring your bonbons and a show some love to all the folks who’ve made 2018 as spectacular as it was. Because when the clock finally ticks down to 0, midnight kiss or not, the SIOP crew will be close by to give you a big old hug and say thanks, we love you and… Happy new year!

Episode #22 - Gaming Addiction & Animal Behaviour Ft Dr. Dennis Wormald
As humans… we do some questionable stuff that leaves us thinking why did we do that?Like why did Jacob spend hundreds of hours playing the same game over and over? Why does your dog poop in your bed and tear up your cushions? These are the sorts of questions that led our friend Dennis Wormald into studying behaviour, combined with an interest in animals, Dennis is now a veterinarian with an honours degree in neuroscience and PhD in canine anxiety. He has a lot to say about behaviour not only in dogs but also humans. We get our nerd on in this episode and discuss gaming addiction, dog behaviour some science talk. As well as discuss Dr. Dennis's new website Abadog, which generates incredibly individualized, comprehensive and effective behaviour modification plans for dogs with behavioural issues. Abadog has the potential to reshape the world of dog training and help manage psychological issues in dogs and help them and their owners live better lives. This conversation was incredibly interesting and we went a little over our regular hour time limit… so buckle up and enjoy this convo as we sort out all sorts of behaviour and talk about everyones favourite topic… doggos.

Episode #21 - Santa Isn't Real?
“‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the houseNot a creature was stirring, not even a mouse…”  Except, of course, for your four favourite Sortingitoutians! HAPPY HOLIDAYS! MERRY CHRISTMAS! WELL WISHES FOR WHATEVER YOU CELEBRATE! With episode #21 comes our first and ever so exciting Christmas special. As sure as the jolly old red man probably has diabetes, the ‘Sorting It Out Podcast’ is taking flight via reindeer to deliver good times (express delivery). Make no mistake, Chris, Tom, Jacob and Caine are certainly in the mood for a little holiday spirit. From Friendsmas to our favourite family traditions, the crew get amongst the cheer and all kinds of cheesy. Is the silly season all it’s nut-crackered up to be though? Is gift giving and receiving even necessary? Why is the message and act of coming together in love relegated to only a few weeks of the year? Let those carols ring and the truth be sung. But hey, if by the shimmer of that overpriced tree, we tear away the ribbons and wrappings to find a lump of coal, don’t even worry about it. Because here at the SIOP we’re all one big family; having you around to share and bask in the love is all we really need. As far as what I ‘want’ for Christmas goes… just ask Mariah Carey.

Episode #20 - Winning a Billion Dollars!!!
What would you do? Who would you be? Where would you go? More importantly WHAT THE FUCK CHRIS, YOU KNOCKED OVER OUR FAVOURITE POT! I tell you what, if my lottery ticket was a winner, I’d be straight to Bunnings, buying some glue and fixing that shattered ceramic right up. Jokes, I’d buy a new Chris so he wouldn’t break shit anymore. I’m kidding of course. But when you win millions of dollars and become so filthy rich, you can make any kind of joke you want, right? Amongst the excitement of triple j’s golden ticket competition, episode #20 sees the ‘Sorting It Out Podcast’ dreamers (minus Tom) contemplating just what they would do if any of the crew won a competition so life changing.  From replacing the lead singer of Catfish and the Bottlemen to financing possibly the worst festival in history, it’s time to think big and bold. So let’s peer into the imaginations of our three host’s heads and see just how wild and whacky things get. Will it be weird? Yes. Will we ever win the lottery? Not a chance.  But we all can dream. And dreaming is half the fun.

Episode #19 - Who's Getting Married!?!?
Have you ever seen ‘The Wedding Singer’, starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler? I used to watch that shit all the time as a kid. I mean, that soundtrack, right!? Not to mention it was classic Sandler, not shitty outdated Sandler (things really went south in the years following). I’ve only now realised how meta the 98 comedy flick was; a romantic film about weddings. A romanticising of the romantic. But what kind of effect does idealising tropes and statistically unsustainable institutions have on us? Honestly, when will it ever be appropriate for us to serenade someone on a plane after we’ve known them for less than a couple months? More importantly, when am I ever going to go halvsies in a $65,000 wedding ceremony (the Australian average cost for such an event)? However, it seems on some level we all crave the Hollywood fairy tale ending. This week finds the ‘Sorting It Out Podcast’ crew pulling back the veil and shoving it’s investigative tongue into the mouth of everlasting love. Will Tom, Chris, Jacob and Caine ever get married? What’s the point? Are the big gestures and sunset horse rides of our favourite movies healthy things to aspire for? It's time for talk and to let the bad puns fly.If anyone happens to throw a bouquet though, best clear the exits, because that wedding stuff’s for life and it’s not for everyone. There is one thing that remains certain; here at the SIOP, we only want to…. "Make you smile, whenever you’re sadCarry you around when your arthritis is bad, ohAll I wanna doIs grow old with you"  … Xoxox, the SIOP.

Episode # 18 - The Car from Hell?
There are three things in this world that insight an equal sense of structural confidence: 1. The Hindenburg.2. One of Caine’s stories about truck driving. 3. Chris’s Car.That’s right all you beautiful Sorting It Outians, the guys are heading home for Christmas! And none other than our very own Chris Brain has graciously offered the gang a lift back to the blue state in his trusty (rusty) 89 Toyota Corolla. Except, Tom, Jacob and Caine aren’t so sure that the ol skeleton on wheels will deliver them to Kiama in one piece, or even in pieces. So buckle up and cling to that ratty foam seat, because episode #19 is kicking into fifth gear (but also, keeping a close eye on the oil levels and revs) to bring you some challenging discussion, with a little bit of playful ribbing on the side which, really, feels only necessary. With the holiday season upon us, family gatherings shouldn’t go without a good roasting. And just like any family roast, awkward table talk will be the main course, from Shawn Mendes sexuality to Yarra river tetanus shots, it’s gonna be tasty. So, here at the Sorting It Out Podcast, with spirited hearts we welcome in the holiday season and set the GPS for 'Home'. But also, if you don’t hear from us in a few episodes time it’s because we’re stranded somewhere between Melbourne and Wollongong, fast running out of food and water, SEND HELP PLEASE, WE’RE DRINKING OUR OWN URINE!!!

Episode #16 - The Death Of A Celebrity
This week, the passing of the late great Stan Lee has left the ‘Sorting It Out Podcast’ team somewhat reflective. What is the future of our ever growing project? Does great podcast come with great responsibility?     With the death of a hero comes the rebirth of a vision. A grand vision. One unburdened by the shackles of former selves and tired ideals. A beautiful place where we can all gather together to share stories; our hopes and fears; our qualms and our triumphs…Jks, we just want a format change so we can talk a little bit more shit. Here at the ‘Sorting It Out Podcast’ we have a love for our listeners as well as an appreciation for open discussion. And we want to keep that dialogue and audience connection healthy and reciprocal. Episode #16 trials the idea of introducing reoccurring segments and explores how the SIOP crew hopes to keep the process of creating content enjoyable. So if you were looking for a hard biting deep dive into the most pressing social issue of the week, then maybe this latest installment isn’t for you. But, if you’re after a few minutes in the day to take solace in the company of friends and some stories, whether warming or whimsical, then I’d say we’re all in luck. And though it may seem like we’re letting loose the reins and perhaps taking it too easy this week, in truth, we’re only trying to be the best of ourselves; an ability that we all share and that can turn the ordinary into something extraordinary, maybe even marvellous. So in that spirit and to episodes to come, we say, “Excelsior!”And rest in peace Mr Stan Lee, a visionary and a marvel to many.

Episode #15 - The Dumbest Things We've Done
We all do dumb shit from time to time… Jacob coming fresh off an afternoon of doing dumb shit and then ironically receiving Paul Kelly tickets in the mail (Hit song by the name of Dumb Things) decided that it would be a good idea for the boys to share some of the stupidest things they have done. From innocent childhood incidents to indolence whilst travelling abroad Caine, Chris and Jacob reveal a few of their biggest “lol wtf was i thinking” moments. But also about how they may have learned from them, from understanding that their emotions can override their rational brains to realising that dogs can poo in the garden but humans should probably still use the bathroom.Have a listen, a laugh and let the boys know if you can top their list of the stupidest things they have ever done.

Episode #14 - Movember
Nfm muhfnm…Mhmf fmuhmu muf mmnm… Hmnm um nuhmunuh mfm nfm muh…My apologies but through the bushy whiskers of the ‘Sorting It Out Crew’s upper lip, from time to time words can get pretty muffled and muddled. That’s right fam, Movember is upon us. Which means it’s time to support men’s health issues and raise funds and awareness of mental illness, suicide as well as testicular and prostate cancer. With the state of men’s health in crisis, episode #14 discusses the importance of donating time and a little loose change to a worthy cause, and just how four millennial males plan on doing so. Spoiler alert: for Jacob and Chris it involves sporting some horribly dirty moustaches (I know; poor form, Caine and Tom). But hey, we’re all here to spread the word of bettering health for all those around us.  So, if you happen to enjoy the fun of a couple patchy moes, a few amusing videos and perhaps a cheeky butt tattoo (all of which are a part of the SIOP efforts for the month), well why not have a listen and join in the good will? Donate! Grow some facial hair! Or just have an important conversation about health and the habits we can all use to reach those good, sustainable health goals. Also, check out the Movember website and look up the profiles of your SIOP favs, Jacob and Chris, and while you’re at it, show and share that support. And as always, to all our listeners, from the bottom of our hearts…Mhfnm uhmf fuhmnhuh…Eh, you get the idea 😉  https://moteam.co/sorting-it-out?mc=1
