Foundation 02: Preparing to Live
In this discussion, Rob is joined by Alex Monroe who has just recently read the book and brings a fresher memory to some of the comparisons. We also try to step back and discuss the show on its own and some of the story developing in between Trantor and Terminus, which was not in the original book. If you’d like to listen live, or even join the conversation, we’re on Discord right here: https://discord.gg/haVSY7zq?event=898415285042831390 (If your podcast player doesn’t support clickable links, hopefully you can type that in, or try this short link https://bit.ly/3BJGm27)

Foundation 01: The Emperor’s Peace
It’s finally here! Actually, a there are a few episodes out already. Apple surprised us with two episodes on the first day, but we’ll be spacing everything out one week at a time on this podcast. We’ll also try to stick to just a short half hour chat on these, unless there’s an appetite for more, let us know! In this discussion, Rob is joined by Mike Rapin and we try to recall what we read years ago and also react to some of the totally new direction the TV series is taking us. If you’d like to listen live, or even join the conversation, we’re on Discord right here: https://discord.gg/RfqpYBeFgV (If your podcast player doesn’t support clickable links, hopefully you can type that in.)

Introducing: Foundation mini-series
Apple has created a TV series based on the science fiction series, Foundation, by Issac Asimov. This is like the sci-fi genre equivalent of Lord of the Rings within the Fantasy genre and Rob is VERY excited! Sorry to get back on topic will be running a weekly mini-series to discuss the TV show and possibly the book as well. We can react to the production, story telling, subtle winks to the original work, or a commentary of what the ideas mean to us. It’s up to you! Come join us on Discord after every episode, or jump in half-way through, it doesn’t matter. We’ll edit and post the discussion shortly after for anyone who missed it. Hope you’re excited, and hope you can join in!

Sunday Hangout: F1, Tesla, and work
Rob didn’t check his microphone and it was a bit hot – sorry about that! In this casual hangout episode, Alex and Rob talk about work, and about their vacation to Chicago that included go kart racing. This leads to a nice tangent about Formula 1 racing and of course a bit about Tesla too.

Mini: Hello from Racket
Hey, we’re trying out a new thing. You can ignore these if you want, it’s purely supplemental. If you’re looking to get more Sorry to get back on topic, or hopefully you’re interested in sending audio messages to the show, this is FOR YOU! This is us on Racket: http://racket.com/sorrytopic

This is the first time that hosts Alex and Josh meet! Rob managed to “double-book” both of them, and record an episode with everyone. Josh recently went to the hospital and shares his experience, which gets us talking about health care in general. There’s a lot more to this very complex issue than just our little anecdotes and it probably deserves some more conversation so just take it with a grain of salt. You are listening to some random person’s podcast, after all, not the New York Times. Rob makes an excellent segue from healthcare being inefficient to our work processes like “agile” and how pretty much any large company becomes inefficient. Maybe healthcare is just a terribly large company? We’d love to hear what you think. Send us a tweet @sorrytopic or hop into our Telegram chat. Find links to both at joshandrob.com/subscribe!

Sunday Hangout: smart homes and future interviews
Alex and Rob catch up on a lazy Sunday. We talk about some lesser-known smart home tools, and Alex wants to plan a post-marriage bachelor party! Thinking about future topics, we explore some ideas together but would love to hear what you think! More music, philosophy, science? Rob wants to talk more about Nils Frahm, a contemporary composer that does interesting and beautiful things with synthesizer and acoustic piano alike! Listen on Idagio: https://app.idagio.com/profiles/nils-frahm/albums As usual, follow/tweet at us via @SorryTopic! Chat with us in the Telegram group. // Wait, what’s telegram?

Rob got a VR headset, or: Podcasting in SPACE
Alex and Rob are joined by special guest, Patrick, a full-time astronomy nerd who actually works at a planetarium! Alex wanted to try something different and record this episode during our most recent Elite:Dangerous play session, since we’re hanging out on Discord as it is. Inevitably, we end up talking a lot about the game, […]

Josh is BACK to talk about Apple and Birds, of course
Wow, it has been nearly a year since our co-host Josh actually joined the podcast! Josh realizes how much he doesn’t even know what he looks like when trying to create an avatar with the Stereo app. Then he talks way too much about the AirPods Max he just got, and explains why a cockatiel […]

Rambling about work with Mike
We’re off this week, so here’s some B-roll of my recent conversation with Mike Rapin. Before we got into our chat about Video Games + Roll Playing we blew off some steam about work. Mostly complaining, but kind of interesting to hear about common problems in tech work. Hopefully it can be interesting to a […]

Video games + Role playing games
This is a pretty specific episode, so feel free to skip it if RPGs and video games aren’t your thing.
