To this day, many of the Uyghur people living within the Xinjang region have experienced breaches of their human rights at the hands of the Chinese government. Over the past years, reports of millions of Uyghurs being forced into "re-education camps" living in inhumane conditions. over 200 million girls and women have experienced a form of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). FGM is a practice of partial or total removal of external female genitalia, or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons. When she was 12 years old, her parents planned to dedicate her as a Jogini.Jogini girls, are young girls that are dedicated to the goddess Yellamma and forced into a life of sexual servitude, where any man in the village can use them whenever they want, wherever they want and for no money. Victorian premier Dan Andrews announced last Sunday a 5 day hard lockdown of 9 public housing towers in Melbourne, leaving 3,000 residents house-bound with 500 police officers surrounding the towers. The decision came as a means to control an outbreak of Covid-19 cases, but it blindsided many, leaving the thousands of residents confused and worried. This evening, it was also announced that Metropolitan Melbourne will enter a 6 week lock down starting from midnight tomorrow. We spoke tonight with Marcella Brasset from Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) who have volunteered a helping hand by catering for the thousands of residence, making culturally appropriate meals. This is Part 2 of a Two part Series with Grace Arach. We continue where we left off chatting with Grace about how she managed to escape the Lord Resistance Army (LRA). After escaping, she found herself at the World Visions Children of War Rehabilitation Centre, where she began her healing journey that led to her being able to forgive the very man who abduct her when she was just 12 years old!After escaping and spending time at the World Vision rehabilitation centre, Grace went on to volunteer at the centre and was able to reconnect with her family. And in 2009 Grace was named 'Ugandan Woman Achiever of the Year' for her strength in the face of adversity as well as her tireless work to support former child soldiers returning to their communities. Today Grace is a Social Worker in Australia and has founded a organisation called 'Bedo Ki Gen' which translates to "Living with Hope" - a organisation that provides ongoing support for returned child soldiers and their families.

Imagine this: You're 12 years old and on your way to visit your Grandmother. As you're travelling along the dirt road, a group of armed 'officers' pull your car over, and abduct you. They force you to walk for hours in the bush with no shoes on. You're taken to a camp and told if you try to escape they'll kill you. This was Grace's reality. Grace Arach was just 12 years old when she was abducted by The Lord's Resistance Army, a rebel group led by the infamous Joseph Kony. Grace was forced to become a child soldier and was given to the LRA's second in command to be his tenth wife. In this 2 part series, Grace shares her remarkable story with us. It is currently the third largest refugee crisis in the world, with 63% of those refugees being children.
