Failing Ahead of Time
Are you holding yourself back, choosing not to try or challenge yourself because you are afraid to fail? Brooke Castillo from The Life Coach School calls this “Failing Ahead of Time” If you can’t / won’t / don’t do it then you can already failed! You didn’t try and you will never know if you could have done it or not. It doesn’t matter what “it” is you have still failed. No decision is still a decision, you just choose not to.Look at Failure in a Different Light There are winners and learners. Your “failures” are not failures if you learn something and can then apply it. Failures are and should be seen as learning experiences. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don’t but what did you learn? The very first time I drove someone else’s car it was on a back road, way out of the way, I didn’t have my licence and had very little experience. I was very keen to show that I could do it and was very overconfident. I did ok until it came to stopping the car. I have turned into a carpark near the river area we were going to be having a picnic. We were on the top section of the river, just before the edge of a small waterfall. A Website Do I Really Need One?
Social media is everything to a lot of people and you may be wondering whether you actually need a website. With a new social media platform popping up every 5 minutes, there are lots of shiny and exciting things to play with. However, for the longevity of your business, you really do need a website. If so, how do you make it work for you? There is a guru on every corner pushing their favourite platform, system, hack and more so where should you be turning for advice? That can be a hard question to answer because the social media and the web design/development industries are unregulated. What that means is that anyone can add a post, landing page or webinar and say they are an expert. Some of these people have been doing it for years, others 5 minutes and often the information they give is outdated or to say is plainly WRONG. It’s important to clearly think about all the things that they're going to need to do in their job including what type of equipment they need and the extra items you need to supply such as a desk, mobile phone, uniform, training, insurances. Importance of Business Relationships - Connecting with Your Customers
This week on Small Business Talk podcast we turn the tables and have Alan Stevens interviewing Cathy Smith our normal host. Alan Stevens is an International Profiling Communication Specialist. "I've been in business now for 20 years and my business is all about connecting with people, making sure that you are actually building relationships. I'm in web design and digital marketing. Relationships in digital marketing are really critical, and we've noticed that over the last 12 months in particular because even though we're online, people still like to deal with people that they know, like, and trust." Cathy said. Clients won’t work with people they do not like. If you cannot make a rapport with a customer, they will not want to work with you. This is good for both you and the customer – you want to go where people celebrate you, not simply tolerate you. There are 7.7 billion people on the planet, why spend time with those you do not like? If you are not doing well with a client or business, it’s okay to step back. An abundance mindset brings more positivity to all. Importance of Business Relationships - Connecting with Your Customers. How Backups Can Make or Break Your Business With Andrew Dennehy
The number one issue that IT services find when servicing small businesses is the lack of a functional backup system for their information. While unexciting, they are essential to keeping your data safe and accessible when needed. Sometimes even if a business does have a backup, it does not work when you attempt to use it. Ideally, business owners will test their backup and recovery system at least every six months. Can you recover a file from two years ago without issue? Sounds dry but it is a very important subject.
