#26: Create a Routine
The skill of creating a routine is much needed for F&B workers like us who can have some wacky, random-ass schedules! But (you may be saying) I like spontaneity! Most of us like some spontaneity, and we don’t have to give it up completely. But here’s the thing: if we can automate big chunks of our lives, if we don’t have to be making choices every minute of every day, we free up brain power for all the other important things in our lives. We have more mental energy to put into relationships, projects, goals, and even into being better at our jobs (and makin mo $$$!!!) So listen up on how to create a routine for yourself. You won’t be sorry you did!

#25: Weeds Anxiety
I could talk for ten straight hours about the weeds. I used to have “waitmares” almost every time I slept. And there’s so much that goes into it. How skilled of a server you are, what your kitchen and bar are like, the layout of your restaurant, your clientele, and much much more. But what I want to talk about is the anxiety that comes from being in the weeds, how to recognize it, and what to do about it. Because our anxiety is what makes whatever it is that is going on around us much much worse. If you want to be in the weeds less, listen up!

#24: Accepting “That” Customer
In today’s episode, we’re talking about accepting “that” customer, you know, that customer who most servers would agree is a total asshole. This is a topic near and dear to my heart because I wrote a book about a year ago on this topic called Taming the Asshole in your Section (available in electronic and hard copy on Amazon). In this podcast we go through our acceptance, awareness, and action steps to help ourselves deal with these people. Hopefully, you’ll learn how to deal with these people more effectively and feel better about these situations too. Thanks for listening!!

#23: Should I Stay or Should I Go
Today we’re talking about an important topic–making the choice between staying and putting up with a situation and moving on to (hopefully) greener pastures. We start by discussing the mental pre-work needed to make a good decision and then go through how to systematically make and evaluate your decision. Then, we finish with typical thinking traps we need to avoid during the decision making process. This is a great episode with concepts that apply to making any important decision in your life. Enjoy!

#22: Awareness of Dread
OMG how many times can I say STORIES in one podcast. “Cyall meh, tell me your shitty serving stories!!” I’m going to keep being awkward until someone leaves me a voicemail! I promise I won’t answer the phone. (AWKWARD!) It goes straight to voicemail. (346)268-7833 Today we’re talking about dread, and it’s going to be fun!

#21: Accepting “That” Co-Worker
In today’s episode, we’re talking about accepting that person you work with that just gets under your skin. Maybe it’s your boss, who talks to you in a derogatory manner, that kitchen guy who always wants to give you shit for any small thing you ask for, or that server who never helps out. Co-workers can sometimes be even more frustrating than customers because they don’t leave. We deal with their same old shitty behaviors shift after shift. How to deal with them and keep our sanity? Let’s talk about that…

Her approach is amazing. Even though weight isn’t a struggle for me, I’ve co-opted her plan to help me get motivated in all areas of my life. And the results have been spectacular! Thanks, Corinne!

#18: Cultural Thoughts
Today we’re talking about how the ideas of the groups around us affect the thoughts that tend to run through our minds on a daily basis. We need to become more aware of the ideas and beliefs being presented to us. We must be the ones to decide to think them on purpose or discard them unhelpful. If the culture groups of which we belong our telling us stories we don’t want to repeat to ourselves for the rest of our lives, we must learn to detach from those ideas and choose what we will think on purpose.

# 17: Self Acceptance Is Key
In past episodes, we’ve discussed acceptance as it relates to things happening to us from “out there”. Today, we’re going to change it up and talk about how to do something much harder–accept ourselves. To do this, we have to come to grips with past actions and choices and what these choices have created right now in our present lives. And we must accept our current lives because they are reality. But we must also accept our current behaviors (especially what we don’t like) without making it mean that this is “just the way I am”-always and forever stuck as “that person”. You know. The awkward one. The angry one. The jealous one. The shallow one. Whichever one you routinely judge yourself to be. But this idea couldn’t be further from the truth. We are NEVER stuck just as we are, but the first step to getting unstuck is acceptance. Accepting what is (reality) is the first step to changing it. Seriously.
