The Break Up Letter
My friend Janet joins me today on the podcast and starts by reading you her letter. Her breaking up with alcohol letter is impacting, raw, honest, and from her heart.  Janet's relationship with alcohol has been long and complicated, and it was time to end this unhealthy love affair with booze. How is she doing it? Listen to her share her heart with you and where she finds strength and joy in this new way of living.  Thank you, Janet, for your bravery and willingness to share your story in the hope that it will help someone else make that step to end the relationship with alcohol that is destroying their lives and everything around them. Here are the verses Janet shared- 2 Corinthians 12:9 "But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses so that Christ's power may rest on me."I Peter 1:13 13 "Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming." Joyful Surrender-Who We Are
What is that “thing” that you regret you did not do sooner? Since this is a podcast about addiction and mostly alcoholism there are two answers I often hear. I wish I had quit drinking before I actually did I wish I had joined this group before I tried it on my own again. This group is Joyful Surrender and in this podcast, you're going to hear what a meeting is all about.   I get countless unfinished “form” notifications each week about joining Joyful Surrender.  There are five questions you have to answer.  #1 Are you in Recovery? If yes, what is your sober anniversary? If no, simply answer no and move on to the next question. #2 Why do you want to be in Joyful Surrender? #3 Please review the group rules. Do you agree to honor them? #4 Is your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? AND, this is where I lose you. #5 Are you willing to talk with an Admin? If yes, follow the link to schedule a call.  In my estimations only about one in twenty follow through with #5.  It makes no sense to me, but yet it does because I have been there.  You want to take the final step but at the last minute, all the little voices of doubt creep in.   I'm passionate about Encouraging anyone to join A group, I am not trying to sell Joyful Surrender. I don’t make a profit there isn't a  membership fee the only thing that’s required is a true desire to get sober and use your faith as the biggest tool  To be accountable and to receive encouragement as well as give encouragement that’s why we are sharing this meeting with you We will talk about; What made us complete step 5 and schedule that phone call? What relapse in a support group looks like? Why are faith-based meetings so important? And so much more!   “And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” Hebrews 10:25 NLT If you liked this podcast or any others, could you leave a review for me? Tarrah is back with us today. You may remember Tarrah from episode #18 here on the SS podcast when she was celebrating her 90-day hurdle, and NOW, on June 10, Tarrah celebrated one year of sobriety! She shares with us the verse she and her husband focused on the entire day of her one-year mile marker. They went hiking together and made this verse the focus of their day;  Psalm 18:2 NIV The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer;    my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,    my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.  Tarrah shares with us what she has embraced to stay sober and how God has brought her through it. She quotes her husband's gift of these words to her. "When I come home, I know who you are going to be." Josh So true; we all love knowing who we will be every day in this beautiful life of Recovery. Thank you, Tarrah, for sharing your heart and your journey to one year with us.❤️ If you liked this podcast or any others, could you leave a review for me? Debbies Story
Join me for this honest conversation with Debbie, a friend, and admin of Joyful Surrender.  Debbie shares with you how God tugged at her heart to participate in a Bible Study even though she was still drinking. Listen to Debbie's story of her path into alcoholism and the journey God brought her on to bring her to her surrender moment.   She shares scripture from Ephesians about putting on the full armor of God and what the sword of the spirit means to her.  Thank you, Debbie, for being willing to share your story to encourage others to surrender and start living a life of freedom from alcohol.  . Ephesians 6:10-17 NIV The Armor of God 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
