Episode 66: Powerful Women Characters In Horror Films.
Since our last episode was so heavy, we decided to balance it with this discussion on powerful women characters in horror films. We discuss what makes a woman in horror powerful, why it's important to see powerful women portrayed in horror films,  and whether "powerful" includes heroines, anti-heroines, AND villains. Of course, we discussed the characters and films that hit the mark for us, so listen for some great recommendations.  We realize this list is not conclusive, but we cover as many as we can in about an hour. We also realize what's powerful to us may be different for others. Let us know what we missed and should watch if we haven't already. For a discussion about "The Perfection"-- a movie that should be on this list-- check out our interview with the writers of that movie in Episode 9. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/sexandhorror/message

Episode 65: Rape Revenge Movies-- A Discussion With Filmmaker Nathan Hill.
Fuck. This was a heavy episode. But art --which includes movies-- forces us to see the ugliness in this world, sometimes. Good movies, no matter how difficult the subject matter, force us to see, face, and conquer that ugliness. Creators find this process therapeutic. Viewers find it entertaining. Sometimes, it's triggering for everybody. So... consider this your trigger warning, as we discuss rape revenge movies in this episode. We're grateful to have Australian filmmaker, Nate Hill, join us again to discuss his movie, "Fox Force", and other notable movies in this genre. Rape itself is horrific. Since rape epitomizes the ugliest side of sex and horror, which side does rape revenge fall on? Is rape revenge psychotic violence or is it consequential justice? Is it empowering or criminalizing? Are the films glorifying violence or glorifying the characters'  taking back their power? How far is too far in this genre? As a way to educate and inform here, we also discuss consent and where it ends.  Though not as light as some of our previous episodes, we cover rape revenge films as freely and as openly as we cover everything else, and we hope you enjoy this discussion as well. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/sexandhorror/message

Episode 64: Sex & Vampires From Down Under With Filmmaker, Nathan Hill.
We were honored to have our first Australian filmmaker, Nathan (Nate) Hill, with us to discuss what we love to discuss--sex and vampires. Of course, we talked about more, because this award-winning director, producer, actor, and writer has done so many entertaining works, we could have talked for days. In addition to vampires, Nate has worked on projects that include aliens, Bigfoot... real brothel madams, and everyone in between. We especially enjoyed discussing two of his documentaries: Vampires Down Under and Sex Down Under, and what it was like to play one of the attacking vampires in Queen of the Damned. Listen to learn Nate's inspiration, how he picks his casts, his goals for creating films, how he got started, interesting film-making tips (check out his books for more tips), what brothels and fetish clubs are like in Melbourne, Australia, and so much more.  Check out Nate's newest book on Kindle: https://amzn.to/2QX8skn and his movies on Prime: https://amzn.to/2ZbNIKg .  Follow Nate on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NathanHillMovie Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/natejhill and Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnf9LrY-YqfC1T_315p6Nnw/feed . --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/sexandhorror/message
