Ep. 002 Part II - Sam Harris & Jordan Peterson
Today I discussed one of Jordan Peterson's more recent blog posts (https://bit.ly/2usW94P) where he discusses Sam Harris' views against his own when it comes to deriving value from facts. This leads to a discussion of the intermediary structure between value and facts which is story, or narrative. Narrative brings us right back into Maps of Meaning and how behavior may ground itself in imitation but the real dilemma comes when behavior is a result of command from authority. Just like a child imitates their parents, they also do as they are told. People are the same way, we do as we're told either from religious text or tradition. However, these actions must eventually be questioned and here is where the adventure really begins. The idea of forgetting, or possibly not even knowing, the reason behind the ritual is similar to that of the "doorway effect". As environments change for individuals and societies, the abstraction of value from tradition must take place. Enjoy! @SeriouslyDanger

Ep. 002 Part I - Sam Harris & Sean Carroll
Before I covered the question, "How should we therefore act?" I wanted to take a detour to introduce the criticisms between Sean Carroll and Sam Harris. This episode is part one of two. The next episode will "finish the thought" that this episode begins. This episode was tricky to say the least...but I had to get it out there before moving on. In the next episode I'm going to discuss Sam Harris & Jordan Peterson and tie those ideas back to Chapter 1. Here are the links to the articles I mention in the show: Sean Carroll (March 24, 2010) - https://bit.ly/2MwmhTm Sam Harris (March 29, 2010) - https://bit.ly/2OQKyF7 Sean Carroll (March 29, 2010) - https://bit.ly/2OnxKVN Sean Carroll (May 4, 2010) - https://n.pr/2MskkqT Sam Harris (May 7, 2010) - https://bit.ly/2MpjnQc Sean Carroll (January 18, 2010) - https://bit.ly/1EHnPlg

Ep. 001 - Object and Meaning
Is truth the same as what is true? Can we derive morality from science? These are ideas covered in chapter 1 of "Maps of Meaning" by Dr. Jordan B. Peterson. These fundamental questions have been contemplated for hundreds of years and have been reignited as a topic of debate among the likes of Sam Harris and Jordan B. Peterson. Here are my thoughts on the subject, using "Maps of Meaning" to guide my analysis. This barely scratches the surface of the issue and yet the episode will leave you with plenty to consider.
