Episode Fourteen / Bit Cloudy
Though summer is belatedly spluttering into life as the days start to shorten already, Episode Fourteen of the 7SBOM Broadcast Series seeps across the airwaves like a blissful supernova regardless of the season.
Based in East London, you may have already encountered Bit Cloudy(@BitCloudy)since Martin Thompson established his alternative moniker in 2011. Tinkering with sounds at home and on the train laid the foundations for Bit Cloudy; alongside Thompson's work as lead guitarist of dream-pop five piece Firestations. This unique mix for 7SOBM offers an insight into his sphere of influences and an exclusive snapshot of upcoming releases.
"I pay no attention to genres and make music from a tapestry of synths and found samples on Ableton that can touch on Techno, Dubstep, Hip Hop, Film Soundtracks and Drum and Bass without ever being blatant about it. You could probably dance to some of it, but I've never really tried.
I admire Luke Abbott, Gold Panda, Daniel Avery, Chrome Sparks and Com Truise; the films of Robert Altman and the books of Raymond Carver, but only when I'm feeling frisky."
Through releases on Thompson's co-owned Waltz Time label and a remix of Astronauts' 'Skydive' on Lo Recordings (earning him the title of 'bedroom blip urchin), Bit Cloudy has flourished as of late.
Bit Cloudy performs live at Electronic 17; Wild Card Brewery, Walthamstow on August 16th. Pairing his tapestry of electronic sounds with original live videos and the possibility of lasers too.
