S2E17 - Sever and Wallbreakers
Episode Notes We review Sever Book 1 and Wallbeakers We delve into the submissions pile and review two indie comics. Sever is by Braiden Cox and Tim Sparvero Blurb: The story of Sever follows Chloe Williams, otherwise known as Ellipsis, who is an aspiring metal musician finishing up her last year of high school. She plays in a band with a misfit group of friends. First, there is Katie Hoard, the most popular girl at school, due to her social status she prefers not to be seen with the bandmates in worry that it will ruin her reputation, but that doesn't stop her from screaming her lungs out at band practice. Alisha Cho is the band's bassist, she is also one of the smartest kids in school and is always planning ahead. A lot of changes soon occur. One day Chloe's girlfriend and recent drummer, Marilyn Penhurst, returns to town. Upon her arrival, seeming darkness looms over the town as Marilyn seems to have her own hidden agenda.  Check out Sever's Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/svr-01/sever-1-a-metal-inspired-horror-romance?ref=discovery&term=sever Wallbreakers is by Jorge Zevallos Blurb: Hot, noisy, and ruthless. S2E15 - Belial
Episode Notes Notes go here We review Belial by Shaun Barbour, Chuck Pineau and Gregory Woronchak. Lettered by Scott Weldon. Blurb: Follow along as Belial sets out to reclaim what was rightfully his! Belial's power, throne, and claim to Hell have been stolen by none other than Lucifer himself. Over the centuries, Hell has become a shadow of its former Glory. It has fallen from Belial's structure, vision, legendary depiction, and epitome of everything you've come to know of the Palace of the Judged. Now Hell is nothing more than a run-down pit of despair, and Belial has had enough! This is the story of a once powerful ruler, that finds himself up against epic odds. He must fight his way back to the throne. He will face off against the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and Lucifer himself to do so. He's not alone in the underdog power struggle, as Belial has retained some loyal followers. Will it be enough, or is this all just a futile attempt at achieving former glory and become the drunken laughing stock of Hell?  https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1551820313/belial https://www.facebook.com/BelialComic Follow us on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/seethroughpanelpodcast/ Support See Through Panel by contributing to their Tip Jar: https://tips.pinecast.com/jar/see-through-panel Find out more at https://see-through-panel.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast. S2E8 - Forever by Assia Petricelli and Sergio Riccardi
Episode Notes I am joined by Gareth Hopkins to review the Italian coming of age graphic novel Forever. About Gareth: Gareth Hopkins is an artist and comics creator, best known for his Abstract Comics work. He's probably best known for his abstract autobiographical comic 'Petrichor', as well as the ongoing project 'The Intercorstal'. He's currently working on a short story collection, with sections of the book being released as they're complete - Moon Puke, nothing, A Hill To Cry Home and The Bones of The Sea, among others. http://www.grthink.com/ email: gareth@grthink.com Twitter: @grthink Facebook: /grthink About Forever: What is this "love" everyone talks about? Viola doesn't yet know. But it is a question she is asking herself more and more, because at her age there are some kinds of problems you feel even in the air that you breathe: your self-image and the way you think others see you, the relationship between you and your body and the other gender, couple issues, the freedom to follow your aspirations, and the need to fit in socially accepted categories. On vacation with her parents, during the idle hours of the afternoon while everyone is sleeping, Viola's encounters and experiences will help her grow as a person and get answers to the hard questions that everyone has to face sooner or later, and she will reshape her identity, in a summer she'll never forget. Assia Petricelli was born in Naples, Italy, where she still lives today. A creator of varied talents, she has worked on historical documentaries, audiovisual projects, and publications in collaboration with Italian television network Rai and numerous public and private entities, focusing on contemporary history, art, archeology, and matters of gender. Cattive ragazze (Bad Girls) was her award-winning graphic novel debut, alongside artist Sergio Riccardi. In 2020, they came together again for the coming-of-age tale Per sempre (Tunué; Forever, Europe Comics). Sergio Riccardi was born in Naples, Italy, in 1981. After first working as a set designer for cinema and television, he turned his attention to comics, illustration, and animation. He collaborated with writer Assia Petricelli on the graphic novel Cattive ragazze (Bad Girls), and illustrated Salvo e le mafie alongside writer Riccardo Guido, with both books earning acclaim and awards. He joins the Europe Comics catalog with the coming-of-age story Forever (Tunué), written by Assia Petricelli. S2E1 - Interview with John Peter Meiring
Hi gang, Season 2 is here! We are kicking off with an interview with John Peter Meiring, an illustrator and animator. We talk about his creative process, freelance work, and the shocking price of comic books in South Africa! Born and Bred in South Africa, Pretoria. His art career started with his fascination with drawing dinosaurs, sharks and whales. He used to sit in front of the TV and pause on films like Free willy, Jurassic park and Never-ending story and try and draw the characters all the time. He started reading comics since I was about 10 years old, he remembers his sister bought a few copies of “the Darkness’ and “Ascension” and he was hooked, though his sister was not happy with me taking them all the time. Back then in the early 2000’s, there wasn’t a lot of options for Creative careers, so he decided to study Graphic Design to get started. But in the mists of going to college and learning what’s out there, he started to learn 2d animation as well while still illustrating comics and character designs. Needless to say, the Graphics Design studies didn’t pan out since he got bored quite quickly, so he taught himself how to develop a style and soldiered on to get work in the illustration world. His world and career really got a big push when he moved to Ireland, Dublin. He started doing work for great studios in and around Dublin involving illustration and animation. Since then he has picked up a lot of work and started my own company here in London, UK. And Loving it! https://www.oddpumpkinstudio.com/ https://vimeo.com/user84374051 https://www.instagram.com/oddpumpkinstudio/ https://twitter.com/OddpumpkinS https://twitter.com/OddpumpkinS Support See Through Panel by contributing to their Tip Jar: https://tips.pinecast.com/jar/see-through-panel Find out more at https://see-through-panel.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
