  When a teacher has trouble connecting with a teenage student they often find themselves saying that the student simply doesn’t care. They don’t care about that class, they don’t care about school, or maybe they don’t care about their success in life at all.  But is it true? Do they really not care? Or is what seems to be apathy really something else, something deeper? 

Life doesn't feel fair to a lot of us. For teenagers, life doesn't feel fair to most of them. Few life experiences are a better example of this than the shock of not making the team. 

The feeling of not wanting to be at school is a common one. But there are times when we REALLY don't want to be at school, in fact it's the last place we want to be and yet... we show up. It is those moments that we're focusing on this episode, the days we find ourselves in "survival mode".

Our first story, although not explicitly linked to school, offers a peek into the mind of a 9th grader amidst very high stakes while our second story will take you into the classroom of a dynamic 9th grade teacher on a less than dynamic teaching day.
