We are back!! It’s been quite some time since we released a podcast and we are both super sorry for that. We just felt it was time to take a step back for a while and focus on other things for a little bit. That said lots has happened and in this episode we try our very best to catch you all up with what’s been going on this side of the world. We spend some time talking all about two little Lithuanian otters at the Kaunas zoo (Yip Kaunas has a zoo), hear what Solveiga has started studying and how many Lithuanian students she has now. Our 60 second interview this week is with Ugne and it’s a really awesome one! (She likes to laugh) News this week is all about Lithuania’s president, Dalia Grybauskaitė and how she gets a new name and stirs up a scene in an exhibition in Italy. Episode 41: We talk all about the recent Kaunas Hanza days in Lithuania.
In today’s episode, we touch base with all that’s been happening since our last episode about two weeks ago. It’s been such a pleasure hanging out in Kaunas quite recently, there has been so much going on from throwing spears at Kaunas Castle to “ Kaunas Hansa days ” to a special tree that Rūta Meilutytė loves. We cover all this and more in this episode. We also got the chance to meet and hangout with two very special friends of the Say Labas show who took the time to visit Kaunas recently. Episode 40: Lithuanian at home.
Welcome back, and thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to hang out with us. We are happy to say that spring has finally decided to arrive here in Lithuania and we have to say that it is extremely beautiful. We hope that in this episode you get a little taste of spring! In episode 40 entitled Happy at home or Lithuanian at home! We talk all about home, well… actually sentences and words that you can use at home :) and we obviously hope it will be helpful for your language learning. Our town of the week this time around is a little place called Prienai,. Prienai is located in very beautiful part of Lithuania and has two very interesting legends about the naming of this awesome little place. Our 60 seconds with Lithuanian is getting really popular here and in this episode we have Elena on the show, she is extremely patriotic and love Lithuania to bits it’s a huge honor to have here on the show. Episode 39: We learn words for Love in Lithuanian hear about storks, Hot Air balloons and Cucumber fish??
Hey everyone, we are back again with episode 39 of the Say Labas show, this week’s theme is LOVE, LOVE, Love in Lithuanian (All you need is love right?). The episode was of course recorded in Kaunas, and was suppose to be recorded and released around Valentine’s Day but we missed that mark… oops!!! you know what we don’t love? the weather lately… We are well and truly over it. There are signs of spring which is somewhat promising, hear about it on the show – hint – Gandras! In the show we spent a little time talking about what’s been going on lately with us here’s. Quick recap a fish called stinta, Lithuanian Football, Solveiga’s new found role as a Lithuanian Tutor and the old architecture around Kaunas. We also continue our new segment 60 Seconds with a Lithuanian, this week’s Lithuanian is one of our new friends called Valdas. Episode 38: Lithuanian Independence and the motto Believe In Freedom.
We here at the Say Labas Show – Believe in freedom and that’s why episode 38 is dedicated to one of Lithuania’s most historic days! Lithuania’s restored Independence! The 11th of March 2015 or 11 Kovos 2015 will mark 25 years since Lithuania’s independence, a day that is not only special to Solveiga, but to all Lithuanians everywhere. It’s a day that all Lithuanians remember, that against all the odds, they as a nation stood up declared their freedom! In this episode we talk all about how Lithuania has marked this special occasion with events and ceremonies all over the country building up to this special day - Solveiga tells us about a few of them that caught her eye in her News of the week segment of the show. Also we chat a little about the #BelieveInFreedom motto for this years 25th anniversary. Along with Lithuanian Independence day, we have Freedom themed and vocab (which can be found on memrise) in our lesson section with some pretty tough sentences for you Language enthusiasts out there. Episode 37: Making Lithuanian friends and europes oldest constitution!
Labas! We're back with another new podcast episode, the last episode was dedicated to Lithuania’s favourite pastime, basketball. This time however its all about making friends, Everyone needs a Lithuanian friend, why? Because Lithuanians are awesome of course. We learn some useful Lithuanian sentences that we hope will help you along the way in making a few good friends in Lithuania. We spend some time talking about what we've been up to since the last episode, a trip to Silute, some traditional food, a crazy coach ride and more. Episode 36: Lithuanian Basketball and a crocodile in Kaunas
Yes please! We are back it’s been around 2 weeks since our last podcast, we are hoping to get back to a more regular scheduled release pattern now that Kaunas is our home! We aim for new podcast episodes every Tuesday and a new blog post every Friday so look out for that. It’s still quite cold here in Kaunas but we are starting to get used to it now, or maybe it’s just getting warmer, one can hope right. A lots gone on since the last episode and we hope to cover most of it in this episode. The theme for episode number 36 is Lithuanian basketball, all you Lithuanian enthusiasts will know that Basketball is a second religion here in Lithuania and it was high time we dedicated an episode to it. Along with Basketball history, stories and vocab (which can be found on memrise) we talk about Lithuania’s recent Independence Day celebration that took place on the 16th of February. We both attended the celebrations here in Kaunas and were blown away by the amount of people who turned out and how many Lithuanian flags decorated the streets. It was wonderful. Episode 35: Interview with the mayor of Kaunas and the Lithuanian verb "to do"
Visit us at www.saylabas.com Hey! Labas! And thanks again for joining us. This podcast comes to you from Kaunas, Lithuania. Boy o boy has the temperatures dropped - 5c here, that said locals are saying this is a fairly warm winter so I’m guessing this is a good winter…? Not sure we would survive a -12c. Either way its mid-January and the snow has arrived… and with that episode 35! This week’s episode is an interesting one. We cover the Lithuanian verb daryti or “to be” in the lesson section of the show, we haven't done a verb in quite some time so it was about time that we did another. We go over all the forms of the verb and cover a few example sentences too. Episode 34: Months in Lithuanian and Lithuania's new currency.
Visit us at home www.saylabas.com 2015 has arrived and with it the first episode of the year for The Say Labas show. We hope that this year starts right and ends happy for all our listeners. We had a lot of fun last year getting the show and the website off the ground and we are hoping to carry on with that momentum going in to this year. Do you have any special resolutions this year? This is episode number 34 and this episode’s theme is “months of the year” or "Months in Lithuanian", we learn what the months of the year are in Lithuanian and we hear some of their meanings. Looking back we should have probably started with this way back in the first few episodes but as they say you live and you learn. Although thinking about it now the beginning of the year is a good time to learn the month’s right? It’s been a historic period for Lithuania, the 1st January 2015 marked the adoption of the euro as Lithuania’s new currency and with that Lithuania and all Lithuania’s said goodbye to the Litas. The emotions have been mixed from what we have seen anyway, most are happy that the long path to the euro has finally been reached while others, seem really sad that the Litas has gone. Episode 33: A Lithuanian Christmas
A very Merry Lithuanian Christmas to you, wherever you were and wherever you spent it! This is episode number 33 and this is what we are calling our Say Labas Christmas “special”. It’s a little late in getting out but who can blame us Christmas is just one of those times where a lot is going on… Presents, Shopping, Family, did we mention presents? :D You have to agree Christmas is one of the most amazing times of the year no matter where you spend it, there is just something very magical about it. This year however we got to spend Christmas in Lithuania. So we figured let us share with you our listeners what a typical Lithuanian Christmas is like, well for us anyway… This was Tim’s first ever Christmas in Lithuania and for him seeing all the weird and wonderful traditions, food and customs was something very special. Episode 32: Happy Birthday in Lithuanian!
Happy Birthday to Solveiga! What is happy birthday in lithuanian? Su gimtadieniu!! :D :D :D got it good! Yip this is episode number 32 and we are here in Solveiga's hometown of Šilūtė celebrating her birthday Lithuanian style, with her family and friends. Home is always a great place to be when celebrating anything right? Last episode we were in a small mining town in South Africa. This time around we are back in Lithuania and ready to get podcasting once again. This is episode number 31 and this episode is dedicated to our recent trip to Africa. We spent the last 5 weeks seeing some of the most extraordinary places, people and animals South Africa has to offer we've seen Lions, zebra's, elephant's, rhino's name it we saw it. We've shark dived we've bungee jumped and met some amazing people from all walks of life. It was an amazing experience for Solveiga and we are glad we get to share it with you. Episode 28: At the Lithuanian Restaurant
Yeah!!! Episode 28 coming to you from our favourite place in the world, Šilutė. Yes we are back in Šilutė after a long and gruelling week and a half journey around Lithuania. Our adventures took us from Klaipeda to Molėtai to Vilnius to Kaunas and now back to Šilutė almost 1000km of driving. In this episode we recap just what exactly we got up to over the week and a half a part from all the driving :), our lesson this week is entitled "at the restaurant" we learn some new words and phrases we can use at the restaurant. Lithuanian restaurants have got to be some of the best places to practise speaking Lithuanian while of course eating some tasty Lithuanian food right? Episode 26: Animals in Lithuanian

Episode 25: Lithuanian Signs and Symbols
It's Friday! Well here in Lithuania it is, and that's means another new episode from your favourite Lithuanian podcast Say Labas. We hope that you are enjoying all the picture, posts and podcasts from our time here in Lithuania we are having fun doing it. In this episode Tim and Solveiga give us a quick recap on their recent visit to Telšiai located on the shores of Lake Mastis and find out why bears are much loved in the Samogitia region. Check out Tim’s latest blog post to find out why… Anyway this episode’s lesson is all about countries or countries in Lithuanian and how to say whether you are in a country or from a country yes there is a difference it can get a little confusing. After going over a few of these examples you will start to get the hang of it. It’s also a very special episode as we have finally managed to get Solveiga’s Dad on the Show, Tim interviews him in Lithuania or tries to… :) He asks to him about the countries he’s visited and the places he wants to go… It’s a laugh and something different we hope you enjoy let us know if you do, so we can get him back on the show. :)
