Videographer Julie Brondeel: Hold Your Own From South Africa
This podcast celebrates Julie Brondeel's journey as a videographer and content creator. Hold Your Own is a riveting tale of youth and experience, sex and love, wealth and poverty, community and alienation.  The result is a rhythmically hypnotic tour de force—and a hugely ambitious leap forward for one of the most broadly talented and compelling young writers today. Sasha Golyanova - Transition From Russian Police Career To Full-time Surf Photographer
Have you ever thought about starting over? Here is an idea: quit everything and move to Bali to restart your life as a surf photographer. Originally a Russian police officer, Sasha started her new life in 2014 on the island of Bali. Swimming skills and passion for photography have defined her current occupation. She learned to surf and never looked back. She said in an interview for Saltwater Magazine,  "Water photography is a long journey . . . It pushes me from my comfort zone . . . and forces to keep on moving." I think we can all relate to that. Some of the topics we cover include the following: How did you go from working as a police officer in Russia to a surf photographer? Why photography? How did you start—did you enjoy photography when you were younger? I see you have some great water shots, what is it like shooting in the water? What do you shot with—what equipment do you travel with? What is your favorite lens? (45mm - AP - Speed Auto - 2.2 - 1.8 - recommend 5.6 for beginners) Post-production? Color correction, Adobe Lightroom 100:1 Marc 3 - full-frame What is your process—many of your photos have people in them, do you like capturing humans in action? You were in Bali, then Brazil, and now Mexico—can you tell us a little about your journey this past year. Does photography lead you or do you lead it? How does social media influence your photography? What’s next on your horizon? Who are some photographers that you admire? Backstage Pass 1: Building Wave Tribe
We are launching a new series called Backstage Pass. These episodes are a backstage pass into running and building a surf brand. I am pulling back the kimono and giving everyone a peek at what it takes to run an eCommerce brand.  In this episode we talk about the following:  The new business model that is emerging in today’s world—brands are selling directly to customers. COVID is accelerating the online shopping trend away from brick and mortar retail. Amazon has changed the way we think about buying products—but you are always an Amazon customer when you buy from that platform. Why Wave Tribe cares for you more deeply if you buy directly from us. Relationships with customers and factories are the key to growing a successful business. Have a business idea? Keep it simple. Why surfing is a spiritual experience. Any product ideas for Wave Tribe out there? Shark Tank Runner-up, An Inventors Journey with Radbeh Ravaz
Passion truly drives Radbeh Ravaz as he chases his dream to bring a product to life. Radbeh invented the next generation beach chair, it passed the 1st SharkTank audition but he was never called back this season. His invention is not anything close to the traditional beach chair that we see on the market. It's something from nature and for nature.  You can wear it like a shield or you can ride it like a bodyboard. He took it to the former bodyboarding world champion and got tons of great feedback and stoke. We talk about manufacturing challenges and domestic production. He laments about why we cannot have a sustainable business if we want to keep the production in the US. He suggests that we are outsourcing our economy and we are shutting down innovation and innovative thinking in an industry that belongs to us and Pacific beach. We review his challenges from the very first stage: insurance, fulfillment, manufacturing, R&D, investors, and basically anything that you can think of when bringing a product to market. Leaving Medicine For Surfing With Monica From Chile
The reason I love traveling is that the people you meet while on the road tend to impact your life in more ways than can be imagined.  I meet Monica 15 years ago in northern Brazil. I was picking up a friend at the airport in Salvador when we meet and later when I saw her again while surfing I told her I was going to Itacare in a few days and asked her if she wanted to join me.  She said yes. We lost touch and a few weeks ago she emailed me after a 15-year hiatus. In this episode we speak for the first time in 15 years; we talk about the pandemic in Chile, surfing in Sri Lanka, Peru, and other fun places. Monica tells the story of leaving her job as a doctor to pursue her passion for surfing.  #surfing #chile #sharethestoke #saltwaterhigh #podcast --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/wavetribe/message
