Find Focus and Happiness Through Running
It wasn't until I gained 36 lbs in a year, was up to my ears in work (not such a bad thing, considering I work or myself) but I spend nearly my entire day at a desk and feeling pretty depressed (to be honest) It's definitely tough because I love what I do for a living, graphic/web design and marketing. I'm a work-a-holic by nature and a perfectionist in my day job, and honestly you have to be a perfectionist to a certain extent in the design and marketing business wouldn't you agree? Not to mention, the endless responsibilities of being a husband and father, which admittedly, my wife keeps us from starving and makes sure we don't go without lol. Shout out to all the amazing wives and moms out there! Without her support my business and even running wouldn't be possible. Anyway, that's when I realized I had left a HUGE part of me out and that was RUNNING.  It took all this bogged down stress and extra weight gain to realized a CHANGE needed to happen fast. 6 months ago I decided to sign up for a race (which I designed the flyer for, which was a turkey trot on Thanksgiving Morning). I desperately needed something to look forward to in terms of RUNNING. I needed a REASON to train other than to get skinny. Turns out that running to get skinny isn't always a great motivational boost. This race is to benefit a veteran and provide him a new wheelchair so I feel like I'm running for a reason, training every morning for a purpose. I've spent the last 6 months training for this race. I made a decision in my mind to work towards my goal of actually competing in this race. Nothing is worse than showing up to a 5k race out of shape and in horrible physical condition!  Especially after 25-30 years of being known as "the running guy" in my area.  Since that day I committed to the race on my calendar, I've LOST 24-28 lbs. and feel way better now than I did 6 months ago.  I've established a routine and learned to manage my work/life balance to feel less stressed. I fee better in my person life and family life.  Things have yet again turned around in my often times roller coaster RUNNING LIFE. Bottom line is this, if you're REALLY WANTING SOMETHING. If you want to find focus and happiness and to meet a goal or to see success in some form WE OURSELVES have to make the decision and truly stick to it. Even if it means running when we don't feel like it, even if it means we battle through our aches and pains. Even if it means we run after a long day of working. WE CANNOT let those variables, those obstacles get in our way of our RUNNING prosperity and ultimately our happiness.  Keep fighting, keep reaching for your best self and be aware of the hurdles that boomerang you backwards to where you started. Make the most of every opportunity to show you and the WORLD that you won't back down! POEM: There will be hours endured where work feels neverending Your mind and body need RUNNING to feel better for it's time to change form the condescending thoughts and vibes for this time where life feels so miserable and the pain never-ending. Chase away the fears and anxieties battle your way back to the HUMAN to the VICTORIOUS YOU so that one day you stand before yourself full of FOCUS and HAPPINESS and step into a run that feels like you've already WON. Motivation To Become a good runner for life!
What makes a runner good? Is it the high performance shoes they wear? No, but what a good runner embodies is a spirit that fights through adversity and puts their body through tough but smart training. Here’s my short message I hope will resonate with runners who don’t realize their full potential or are blinded or paralyzed in fear of failure. This message might be the spark you need to go for it! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/runwithsoul/support
