RTP #3 With Anthony ‘Macca’ Macdonald.
This episode of Roothless Tales Roothy and Pete are joined by Anthony ‘Macca’ Macdonald, one of the best known desert tour guides in Australia. Learn about Macca’s choice in camper trailers, what makes them really useful under the toughest conditions on earth and hear some of the crazy expeditions he’s had both in our outback and overseas. Then Roothy scratches up deep dirt when he delves into the Black Saturday fires. Yep, turns out Macca lost the lot in that incredible inferno - from the house he built to the mates who lived around him and eventually his marriage too. Three hundred and sixty degrees of nothing but black… if you want to hear some genuine behind the scenes stories from the worst bushfires ever, then this is where you’ll find them. All that and Macca still doesn’t wear underpants. Roothy counters with some personal tales of the Brisbane floods and cows washing up on islands out to sea. One minute we’re hearing about the growth in the outdoors industry, the next we’re talking the slums of Calcutta. Roothy tells about an interesting experience he had If you’re even remotely interested in the future of outback travel then this is one podcast you can’t afford to miss. In the one place and at the one time we’ve got two of Australia’s most experienced travellers talking the truth on everything from mushrooms to vehicle maintenance and getting the most out of your rig. Ever wondered if you could cast a gear from a bar of soap and melted aluminium cans? Roothless Tales, don’t listen if you can't handle the truth. RTP #2 Getting to know Roothy.
Ever wondered what it’s like being a big time four wheel drive media star? Yep, well not every day starts with loading a tonne and a half of books into a post office truck but with absolutely nothing hidden this second episode of Roothless Tales takes us further into the life of one of Australia’s weirdest characters. Actually make that two of Australia’s strangest characters because Produce Pete’s along for the ride as well! From introducing Roothy's latest cookbook to explaining how one of the best photographer’s in the world learnt his trade ducking waves taking photos of surfers, Roothless Tales tells it the way it is. Hear about a whole world of interesting characters and the truth about good magazine and book design. And for those folk who’ve often wondered what led to Roothy’s unique cooking style it’s all here from the bachelor days warming up tins to the time he invited Pete’s family over for dinner and the spit roast caught fire. As usual this podcast is like a road trip where someone’s thrown out the map because before long we’ve skipped to Apple TV’s, the price of printer ink and Roothy’s short lived career as a psychology test guinea pig Strong opinions abound though and if you’ve ever wondered what it’d be like to sit down with Roothy over a few beers, well here it is loud and very much live. It’d be hard to find two more contradictory lives - the computer geek who spend his days working up high end software and the old bushie who’s happiest covered in grease. Yet you’ll go on a roller coaster ride that covers everything from Apaches stealing women to kids getting labelled ADHD. Roothless Tales, don’t listen if you can't handle the truth. Transcript: Here we go: Podcast number 2. Ethan's Podcast number 2 with Pete, the producer. This is pretty impressive, mate. Roothless Tales. Roothless Tales, here we are. RTP #1 The Roothy Podcast.
Talk about the Odd Couple! In the first ever Roothless Tales podcast, Roothy introduces Producer Pete and with his help explains how and why this podcast came about. It was Pete who introduced Roothy to the whole concept of podcasting and now old Roothy’s as hooked as a bloke can get. They run through a bit of personal history including Pete’s background as a mechanic led to software development and now his company’s a world leader in search engine optimisation and Roothy’s days on the pick and shovel back in Lightning Ridge. So we’ve got close to the top echelon in tech development finding common ground with a bloke who’s more at home cleaning old spark plugs and welding up ladders! But they met through a common love for four wheel driving, the Aussie bush and the freedom of choice and from then on it’s been a learning curve for both. All in all it’s a great analogy for what podcasting’s all about, exploring the possibilities of completely free expression in this brave new media world offered by the internet. After a variety of jobs from cleaning toilets to building bridges, hear how Roothy’s high school teaching career as a 24 year old with long hair, a beard and a Harley-Davidson forced him to hit the bush. With time on his hands he taught himself to type and wound up writing dirty letters for magazines. Coming in from the bush he worked on motorcycle magazines and got to enjoy filing everything in the bottom drawer so his gorgeous secretary would have to bend over to get them out. Meanwhile Pete’s trying to find some off-road tyres for his 150 mph Merc... Yep, this is total everything goes open talk between a couple of mates who’ve got a lot in common and a lifetime of experience to go with it. If you’ve ever wondered what makes Roothy tick in the real world, this is as close as you’ll get to sitting down for a long yarn with the bloke himself. Give it a go and enjoy a laugh along the way! Roothless Tales, don’t listen if you can't handle the truth. Transcript. Roothy: Ohh we're recording huh? Pete: We're recording. ROOTHY: (coughs) Ah cool! Well uh... Good day everybody out there. Welcome to Ruthless Tiles. This is John Ruth, otherwise known as Ruthie. Now what am I doin'? Well I'm sitting here talking to Pete's phone, to be honest and uh how did we get to this. Well this is called a podcast. Now, I know what you're thinking... That's probably some kind of weird word, checking a fish lure into
