9. Managing Anxiety and Finding the Silver Lining while quarantined for COVID-19.
Out of an abundance of caution. Social distancing. Pandemic. A slew of new vocabulary has been thrown our way in the past 3 weeks as the world has been turned upside down and subsequently put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. On today’s podcast, I share how our family is adjusting to our #stayhome orders. I share ways that I’m managing my anxiety and panic attacks, as well as how I’m trying to reframe my mindset. It’s really easy to see all of the negativity right now. To see what we can’t do, can’t have and where we can’t go. BUT, the more we think about that, the more it negatively affects our mental health. As someone who has struggled with anxiety and mental health for a while, I know that if I don’t keep a positive mindset, I can easily spiral into an unhealthy place for not only myself, but my family. So, today I’m talking about how I’m choosing to see the bright side of my current situation. I’m talking about how we can reframe our mindset to make this time a welcome interruption so that we can stay mentally healthy. Please go to @rockthislifepodcast on Facebook […]

8. Sarah Garcia Azad: Founder of Humble Bebe
Today’s podcast guest is Sarah Garcia Azad, founder of Humble Bebe. Sarah is an award winning product developer and mother of two adorable boys. After having kids, she took the leap into creating her own business. A little over a year ago, Sarah launched Humble Bebe with high quality cloth diapers on Amazon. Today we talk about her process. We talk about how growing up as the child of an entrepreneur inspired her as a business owner. We also dive into how she chose cloth diapers as her initial product, how she went from concept to creation, and the innovative new products she is releasing now. Sarah also shares some gems on finding balance, like the under-utilized art of delegating. This is a concept I’m actively trying to implement more in my life. What, if anything do you delegate in your life? Do you feel like it frees up your time for what matters most? Comment here or reach out on social and let us know how you #delegatetodominate ! 7. Taking Risks
A couple weeks ago, a man climbed out the side of his 6th floor apartment during a building fire. As I watched it unfold on the news, I couldn’t help but think, would I do that? Would I be willing to risk it all? Today on the podcast, I dive into my own apprehension to taking risks and discuss how I’m challenging myself to try and see the reward beyond the perceived risks. I inherently rely on safe bets and sure things…but sometimes in life, you have to take risks for greater rewards.

6. Heather Klass: Career transitions and work-life balance
What happens when you have spent 10 years busting your behind to move up in your career, you are VP, and you aren’t fulfilled. Well, if you are like Heather Klass, co-founder of Little Lamma, you take a giant leap of faith. About two years ago, Heather had worked her way up to VP of Finance and Operations at a Digital Agency in Los Angeles. She was working long hours and bending over backwards to be not only an incredible career woman, but also an incredible mother to her two boys. After some soul searching and company shifts, she made the incredibly brave decision to quit. She had no job lined up. No solid plan. But she knew that what she was doing didn’t resonate with her anymore and she needed to make a change. She eventually through contract work teamed up with Little Lamma, a concierge gifting service, and became their third co-founder. On today’s podcast, we dive into what it was like to leave her job without a safety net in place. How it is now, working for a small three-woman start-up team, and how she finds balance navigating life as a kick-booty career woman and mom of […]

5. Coping with trauma: fractured skulls and facebook drama
Sometimes life is interrupted, and sometimes it shatters before your eyes on a random Monday morning. Three months ago, my daughter fell and fractured her skull. And I haven’t written or really talked about it since it happened. Writing has always been a kind of mental release for me. For some reason when I put it on paper (or a computer screen) and out into the universe, it allows me to let go. It allows the thoughts, fears or insecurities cycling in my mind to slow down. When I had a traumatic birth experience, I wrote about it. When I had a miscarriage, I wrote about it. When I was suffering from postpartum anxiety and depression, I wrote about it. But, when Emerson fell and fractured her skull, I did not write about it. I didn’t talk about it. I avoided conversations about it. I convinced myself that once we passed the three month mark where we didn’t have to walk on eggshells in fear of any slight bump to the head I would just move on with life as usual forgetting about that morning. But out of nowhere, this week, I got sucked into a mommy war on Facebook […]

4. Stephen Lovegrove: America’s Life Coach
What is a life coach? I must confess, I wasn’t quite sure what exactly a life coach did, but after sitting down with Stephen Lovegrove, America’s Life Coach, I have a much better idea. I met Stephen when we co-hosted an after show for NBC’s Boy Band, a very short lived reality competition seeking to create the hottest new boy band. Stephen was a spitfire of a human, and the kind of person that naturally draws you in. He is happy. He is full of energy, and it is infectious. So when I got the chance to sit down and chat with him, I was genuinely excited to hear his insight on life in general. We chatted about ‘signs’, finding life’s elevator moments, and what happens when you decide to show up differently in your life. We also got the chance to dive into Stephen’s journey, which is incredibly fascinating. He grew up as a gay man in a fundamentalist cult in the southeast, and later went on to work at Disney and SoulCycle on his journey to settle into a career as a life coach. He has been featured on MTV, NBC, Business Insider, LA Times, Huffington Post and […]

3. Fail Forward
A good friend of mine once said she was a ‘fear based person’. And while it was intended as somewhat of a joke, I couldn’t help but agree that I too, am a ‘fear based person’. I look at any situation and immediately think of all of the terrible things that can go wrong (no matter how incredibly unlikely.) Both my OBGYN and our Pediatrician, whom I love and trust wholeheartedly, have banned me from googling ANYTHING. Yet, I still find myself at 2am falling down an internet rabbit hole of worst-case scenarios. And despite the many ‘brave’ choices I’ve made in my life, there are an unending amount of moments and choices crippled by fear. I have stopped myself before I’ve started. I’ve stressed myself and those around me out of fear and unwarranted anxiety. I am afraid of many things, but I am very afraid of failure. Fear of failure is something that I think holds a lot of us back from really achieving our fullest potential…and it’s (for lack of better words) bull crap. Because when we let fear of failure take over, we inherently fail. In today’s podcast I dive into my own fear of failure, […]

2. Gina Starbuck: From Professional Dancer to Transformational Coach
About a year ago, I sat down with Gina Starbuck, a former professional dancer/choreographer who left behind a successful career in entertainment, working with artists like Prince and Patty Labelle to pursue a career as an intuit, transformational coach, NLP practitioner and Reiki Master. At the time we spoke she was just beginning her career transition focusing on supporting new moms through coaching and reiki. Since then, she has co-founded Awake & Soulful where she hosts incredible retreats. During our interview, we dive into how her priorities, and insight on the world shifted after having her daughter Jade, and get deep into body image, relationships and the need for more support for post-partum moms – all things that led her to seek something more for herself. Her story is a great example of how despite having success in one field, it doesn’t mean that is all you are capable or destined for. How sometimes in life, goals, dreams and desires shift and change. We talk about how to reconcile the ‘life you once had’ with the one you are living now, and how to be confident in your decision to close one chapter and move on to the next. You […]

1. Why I’m Starting a Podcast
A year ago, I had the idea to start a podcast. I had been hosting for Maria Menunous’ Afterbuzz TV and Book Circle Online for a while and I love just talking to people on camera, hearing their stories and sharing them with the world. So, when I was faced with financial and life uncertainty a year ago, I thought about what I really wanted in life. And the answer was, I didn’t know. But, I knew I wanted to do something. What that something was, I wasn’t quite sure. I thought about how I felt like there had to be other people like me that were struggling with this idea of feeling like life was passing by without any direction. And I wanted to change the way I showed up in my life. I wanted to see if I made active changes, if I really could create the reality I wanted for myself and my family. So I had the idea to launch a podcast – Rock This Life. A podcast where I would host conversations with incredible people that have overcome adversity, chosen a new path, been brave and bold and fought to find their best life – […]
