In this, the Season 5 finale, we rank all 86 of the Grateful Dead's 1972 concerts, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of that venerable year in Dead history. In a sense, I've been working on this episode for two years now, as I listened to all 86 shows last year in preparation for this year! This year alone, I spent somewhere in the neighbourhood of 375 hours on this exercise, and created over 40,000 words of content between notes, spreadsheets, etc. A list like this can never be entirely objective, but I did try to make the process as refined as possible.
