Rock Out With Your Cart Out 52 – Winter Wonderland 2020
Making this an annual tradition now, I put together some nice, winter-y sounding pieces together for a winter/holiday episode. I did it a little differently this year and did all the talking right up front and then let the music take us through the rest of the episode without interruption. I thought it would be a nice way to get in the mood without someone interrupting every few minutes. Hope you enjoy! Support me on Patreon! Rock Out With Your Cart Out 51 – Secret of Mana Madness
Instead of covering the Secret of Mana soundtrack in its entirety, I decided to take a different approach and pick five tracks from the original Super Nintendo version, Secret of Mana Genesis / Seiken Densetsu 2 Arrange Album, and the 2018 remake. I was curious to see how those tracks were handled in each iteration, so I thought finding five I specifically liked and hearing how they were changed would be a fun little experiment. Rock Out With Your Cart 50 – 30 Day Video Game Music Challenge
I made it to fifty episodes! It’s been a hell of a ride getting here, so I thought I’d do something that shows the diversity of (or some may argue my lack of)  my tastes in video game music. Rock Out With Your Cart Out 48 – Atomic Robo-Kid (Arcade/Genesis/PC Engine/X68000)
Think of this episode as a call to action. The Atomic Robo-Kid soundtrack has a lot of potential but is hurt by some of the choices made for it. I’m not saying go out and make an album and thank me or anything, but I feel like SOMEONE should do something with this soundtrack. There’s a really good soundtrack buried in here that just needs some polishing to make it great. Listen in and you’ll hear what I mean. Support me on Patreon! Rock Out With Your Cart Out 47 – Valis: The Fantasm Soldier (Genesis)
Once again, I’m forced to pick a favorite. Instead of covering the remake for the PC Engine Super CD or the original PC-88 version, I decided to go with what I feel is the strongest version of the soundtrack of Valis: The Fantasm Soldier. In doing so, I’m also trying to dispel the myth that the music that is made on the Genesis always sounds farty. This is very easily one of my favorite soundtracks from the console, so sit back and enjoy! Support me on Patreon! The ROWYCO theme song is “Kaze Fuma” and was created by chibi-tech for the podcast. Rock Out With Your Cart Out 46 – Lagoon (SNES)
I don’t want to lean too heavily on Falcom Sound Team jdk on this podcast. Instead of doing that, why not just find stuff that sounds like it could be something from them? In all seriousness, you can be forgiven for hearing this and thinking that someone who at least had a brief stint at Falcom had a hand in Lagoon’s soundtrack. Hell, you could say the same thing for the game itself (although that’s not something I’ve really researched, so maybe?). What I will say is that Hideki Suzuki had a far too short run in the music side of the industry, so I figured we should check out one of his better works and and appreciate it. Support me on Patreon! This week, I’m going back to doing a comparison. We’re going to compare the Super Mario Land soundtrack to the Super Mario Land Arranged album. Hip Tanaka was Super Mario Land’s composer and Ikuro Fugiwara and the “Mario Freaks Orchestra” handled the arranged album. It’s a fun album full of a variety of sounds. Support me on Patreon! Rock Out With Your Cart Out 44 – What Did I Just Listen To? (with Alex Messenger)
This week, I’m joined by Alex Messenger from A VGM Journey to listen to some oddballs. We each picked six songs that didn’t really fit. I went with stuff that didn’t fit with the game in general that track was in. Alex went more with stuff that didn’t fit the rest of the soundtrack. It’s a weird mix of video game music! Rock Out With Your Cart Out 43 – Kamiko
This time, we’re listening to a bit of a shorter soundtrack. And I do mean “we”! I wanted to share this soundtrack, but I couldn’t find enough to say about it, so I roped in a surprise, special guest. I would’ve liked to have gotten the composer, Taira Watanabe, on, but the language barrier would probably be a bit much. I think we had a nice conversation, so sit back and enjoy this one!
