Troubled Teen Industry w/ Lindsay Lucido
The girls talk to comedian Lindsay Lucido about her time in a troubled teen wilderness camp and dig up her old trauma for that sweet, sweet content. This $24B industry has kept therapists around the country happily employed and we get a first-hand account of how this very profitable industry operates (spoiler alert: it's charging parents to use their children as labor?). We discuss what it's like to have Paris Hilton as your spokesperson, how being in these camps impacts children later in life, how to flirt when eye contact is forbidden and more! When George Santos scammed an Animal Rescue Center
The girls call George Santos: Laura and Mae are joined by a special guest, Judi Eskenazi, to tell her tale of how she got caught up (possibly scammed!) by the one and only George Santos (if that’s his real name) at an animal shelter. Mae then tells the story of the first woman who tried to break up her marriage with Mark (an 80-year-old South African woman on their honeymoon). The ladies also go through a list of the wildest corporate expenses from strip clubs to private yachts - moral of the story - don’t be afraid to expense that Uber. We’re all going to die one day. Mae's Honeymoon and the Morality of Trophy Hunting
Not fair game: Mae and Laura discuss the horrors of the trophy-killing industry. The ladies do a quick roundup of Mae’s honeymoon in South Africa, a wild tour guide in Cape Town that could not take a hint, and adventures on safari. Spoiler alert, Mae couldn’t make it out of safari without getting into a catfight. The ladies discuss the ethical dilemmas facing big game hunting across Africa, poaching, and of course Cecil the lion, RIP. Turns out we all should be scared of the dentist. We also talk about the police officer who became internet famous for wild romps with most of the squad and have a pretty in-depth discussion on sex shows. So if you’re not into truly risqué topics - hit that 5 star button and move it along. Like and subscribe! How startup Frank used Data Science to scam $175M
It's January and we already have some strong contenders for scammers of the year! Our main story is the startup Frank, which was called "the Amazon for college admissions". Frank's application for top scammer was strong when CEO Charlie Javice completely fabricated 4 MILLION accounts in order to secure the bag (a $175M JPMC acquisition). We also talk Mae's honeymoon which oddly included time in the red light district of Amsterdam (sorry if you're Dutch - the reviews aren't great). Of course, we can't lose an opportunity to talk about the fairytale resume of George Santos. The guy whose balls can be seen from space. Enjoy! Liver King and the BIG bulky lie
Mae and Laura cover the story of Brian Johnson, AKA the “liver king”. This TikTok celebrity and $100M fitness and supplement lifestyle mogul known for eating raw liver on the daily (barf!) took quite the spill from grace when a big fat secret was exposed. He flew too close to the sun and got burned which was “only-natural”. This and more hard-hitting news of the week like America's next top mullet, goblin mode is the word of the year, the national parks want you to cool it with licking toads - and more. The Great Texas Fruitcake BETRAYAL
From fruitcake friends to fruitcake foes: in the holiday spirit Mae and Laura spill the tea on inedible pastry cakes this week as they discuss the fruitcake fraud case of the iconic Collin Street Bakery. This adorable tale has big Texas style personalities, bummer betrayals, very poor taste in mattresses (you’ll see) and weirdly some political connections? The girls also chat World Cup (it's pronounded "cutter"), Balenciaga and their creeptastic new ads, more crypto conspiracies, and getting frisked at the airport??? Chaotic as always.  Thanks for listening! (WT)FTX - The drama behind crypto darling SBFs rise and fall
We're back after our short break to get Mae married (finally!) and we've got a hot one. We're talking Sam Bankman Fried (aka SBF) and his polycule of Effective Altruist friends at FTX and Alameda Research that just went bankrupt, stole a ton of money and may be crashing crypto.  If you haven't heard about this story then listen now to understand the darker-than-usual depression from your crypto-enthusiast millenial nephew Thanksgiving. We review a deep dive on SBF the person, how this may have been why Tom Brady and Gisele got divorced, Caroline Ellison and her really cursed Tumblr account, some finance stuff that tbh is a bit over our heads, why the guy who shut down Enron has been called in, and of course, continued discussion of Mae and Mark's wedding. Oh and we discuss Qatar and the World Cup - yay sports! We are also playing with having a full version (with more wedding content and a few other news stories) on our Patreon. That should be up later this week so if you're feeling us - check us out there @risquebusinessnews <3 (CUT TO ABOUT 11 MINUTES TO SKIP WEDDING TALK) Check us out on the socials @laurasogar @mae_planert @risquebusinessnews or email us risquebusinessnews@gmail.com

That time the Sinaloa Cartel laundered $16 billion through HSBC (part 2)
The girls are back again with part 2 of the story of the Sinaloa cartel and how they cleaned up their finances with the help of the world's biggest bank, HSBC. This week the story focuses on the Mexican government's attempt to get one of the world's largest companies to simply stop funding terrorists. Feels like a simple ask but you'd be surprised!  We also spend literally the first 28 minutes talking about haunted houses, sex clubs, and how we can't take Mae anywhere so if that's not your thing... skip ahead.  Also trigger warning there's an INSANE murder in this episode. :( Follow us @risquebusinessnews @laurasogar @mae_planert Topics:  Everett Stern the whistleblower who didn't get into the CIA HSBC anti-money laundering division (it's a ghost town) Anna Delvey is out of jail! The Scandals of El Chapo and HSBC
The girls are back from Mae's bachelorette in Mexico City so it felt only right to discuss one of the scariest businesses in the world... The Cartel. This story focuses on HSBC, a legit bank that also happened to enable the Sinaloa cartel to be REALLY good at their job (drug trafficking and murder). In part 1 we talk about El Chapo's history, how HSBC could really not be bothered to worry about anti-money laundering, and attempt to explain the Mexican Peso Crisis (lol). We also discuss Tom Brady's divorce (bye Tampa!), Edward Snowden, Kim Kardashian's SEC fine, and a couple in Brazil with the world's worst gender reveal party. Patagonia - The Only Good Business Man?
This week we discuss outdoor apparel company, Patagonia, and its founder Yvon Chouinard aka one of the world's only good businessmen. You may have seen him pop up in the news for giving away the (massive) company to a newly established non-profit dedicated to fighting climate change. Yvon may be one of the only billionaires who looked at his bank account and said "this is embarrassing" and actually gave all the money away. We discuss his past and how he came to be such an anomaly in our capitalist world.  We also cover the Nirvana naked baby lawsuit and a massive scandal rocking the world of chess (sex toys are involved...).
