In the end, it usually comes down to a set of principles that focus on an individual’s work ethic, thought the process and how they approach the ‘business and marketing’ of their talents. ROTE 086: Matt Miller and How to Start a Vending Machine Business
As entrepreneurs, many of us had the passion and mentality for business at an early age. Growing up with the entrepreneurial mindset is interesting because you are always looking at things differently from other people. For example, when someone goes up to a vending machine and purchases a drink… I’m not thinking “I’d like a drink” or “I wonder what drink they just got“… I’m thinking, “I wonder how many people use that machine per day and what is the profit margin on each soda!“. I’m sure many of you share this same mentality and the thought of starting your own vending machine business may have crossed your mind a few times as well — I know I have! To fill the need for more information on this topic, I was able to sit down with Matt Miller, an unexpecting entrepreneur who has not only mastered the art and business of vending machines… but also the ability to help schools raise millions of dollars in the process. All of this and more in the latest episode of Rise of the Entrepreneur with special guest Matt Miller. Rise of the Entrepreneur – Episode 86 with Matt Miller Matt Miller is President, and Founder of School Spirit Vending. Having graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1989 and being in the Air Force for 9 years, Matt Miller may not seem like your typical entrepreneur. After his time in the Air Force, Matt worked in both the medical and advertising field before venturing out on his own to start what would become School Spirit Vending, a fundraising company based around the concept of using customizable vending machines. Today Matt and his SSV team visit schools throughout the country to spread their message and also to business owners who would like to get involved. The company is now actively fundraising in over 1,500+ schools across more than 20 different starts. While it may seem like the business model and process to get there is seamless enough, it’s actually quite a story that needs to be told. Building a legitimate multi-million dollar business from a single gumball machine is quite the task!     Talking Points Discussed in this Episode: The story of Matt’s first gumball machine and where he found it Spirit School Vending: The business model and fundraising concept How the vending machine business is changing with technology Minimum investments and costs associated with vending machine Finding the right location and rev share deal for vending machines Using podcasting to reach new audiences and grow Matt’s business Three great Q&A questions for Matt in the Pit of Fire -> Download this episode to your computer. Sales funnels are one of the best ways to market and automate your business and lead generation online. No matter what you are currently selling, there always going to be a way to increase conversions and squeeze even more revenue out of each lead being generated. Such methods include creating simple sales funnel through the use of automation with landing pages and autoresponders, to more in-depth methods like integrating one-time upsells and using retargeting to follow your audience around the internet. At the end of the day, it’s all about making sure you have a system in place to measure, track and improve your conversions and sales numbers across the board. ROTE 083: Danny Iny Shares How to Teach and Grow Rich
Anyone can start a website, a blog or even an online business — but not everyone can turn it into a high traffic site that make money, let alone a real business. The startup costs are minimal and the opportunity is there, so why do so many people fail? More than anything else, it usually comes down to the core basics of any business in that there actually needs to be a business model. Too often we see site owners and bloggers relying solely on their ‘content’ and not putting in the promotional and marketing work to get their name out there — let alone have a real monetization method in place. No matter what business model you decide to go with, it’s important to remember that there are over a billion active sites on the internet today. This means you will need to be unique, provide value and also grow your brand loyalty and following in the process. All of these traits are something Danny Iny has not only become a master at, but something he has passionately been teaching to others as well. All of this and more in the latest episode of Rise of the Entrepreneur. Rise of the Entrepreneur – Episode 83 with Danny Iny Danny Iny is a best selling author, entrepreneur and founder of Mirasee. Firepole Marketing was created back in 2010 and quickly grew from zero to over $3 million in revenue in just five years. The cool thing about the story and business model is that is all started out as a simply idea, but not one that Danny really knew how to implement and grow. Through various wrong turns, redirections and opportunities, Danny started to figure out how to best deliver his message, while also building a loyal following in the process. It wasn’t just about being able to deliver a message, it was also about turning his audience into loyal ‘paying’ customers as well. While most people are happy with the concept of making money online, Danny was able to put his ideas into motion while also building a powerful team around himself and taking his business to a whole new level. Today, Mirasee (formerly Firepole Marketing) has over 30 employees and helps more than 5,000 value-driven entrepreneurs in reaching their own goals and growing their businesses online. The big take away for all of Danny’s success? Put your audience first. Talking Points Discussed in this Episode: How Danny got started online and his path for success What so many bloggers and content creators are doing wrong Growing an online following when you have nothing Learning from mistakes and why Danny calls then “plot twists” Why Danny changed his business name from “Firepole Marketing” to “Mirasee” Three great Q&A questions for Danny in the Pit of Fire -> Download this episode to your computer. ROTE 081: Scott Voelker and How to Sell Products on Amazon
To think that I first started making money with Amazon back in the late 90s, and seeing what it has become today… it’s quite amazing. While most people think of the Amazon.com affiliate program as the only way to make money with Amazon, the ‘real’ way is to create or sell a product through their site. This can be done in two ways; either buying and shipping products to Amazon and using their FBA program, or selling a product and shipping it in bulk to Amazon for them to process and handle all orders. The second of the two is where the BIG money is at, and is also exactly what we are going to be covering today in the latest episode of Rise of the Entrepreneur with Scott Voelker. Rise of the Entrepreneur – Episode 81 with Scott Voelker Scott Voelker is an entrepreneur and expert at launching successful products on Amazon.com. Not only is Scott finding massive success with his own Amazon listings and private label products, he’s also expanded into the learning space to help others discover how to find similar success. Before finding success with Amazon, Scott and his wife ran a successful portrait studio for 10 years. However, being the entrepreneur at heart, Scott knew it was time to broaden his horizons and expand into new areas. Already an expert in photography, Scott explored his options with teaching and selling photography related courses online — quickly finding success and realizing the power of the internet and how this can grow in size. Jump forward to August 2014, Scott discovers the world of Amazon and how to start selling products through their FBA (fulfillment by Amazon) program. After listening to some podcasts and performing his own research, Scott was addicted to the idea of selling physical products through Amazon. While it was a learning process, Scott was dedicated to finding success with Amazon and using his 10x10x1 formula for future products and campaigns. Today, Scott has multiple listings on Amazon and has perfected the art of finding profitable products to list on Amazon, while also knowing how to use product reviews, Amazon pay per click marketing and rankings to scale his business in size… all of which are shared within this podcast episode. Talking Points Discussed in this Episode: The concept of Private Label Selling on Amazon What to know before selling anything through Amazon How to find the right product and niche market The importance of Amazon sales rankings and reviews The 10x10x1 formula Scott uses for all product sales How to protect your Amazon products from copycats Expanding outside of Amazon with your own brand Three great Q&A questions for Scott in the Pit of Fire -> Download this episode to your computer. ROTE 080: Thomas Smale and How to Buy and Sell Websites
If you ever wanted to start an internet business of your own, you are probably well aware of the many obstacles you will face. ROTE 077: Alex Becker and How to Rank Web Sites
To rank at the top of Google you need to look at a number of important factors, such as site optimization, keyword competition and incoming links to your sites. Of all the factors mentioned, link building continues to be one of the most important factors to date — even after all the many Google updates and animals that have plagued the industry over the past several years. It’s not a matter of if you should build backlinks to your site, it’s simply a matter of how. Authority content is great, but without the necessary links coming back to your site, you simply have no chance of ranking in the search results and competing against the other billion sites on the internet. To increase your chances of ranking at the top of Google, it should also be in your interest to go after long tail keywords and not generic keywords like “car insurance” or “how to make money online”. Instead it’s all about getting extremely niche, going local and going after high-value keywords that only get searched a few times per day. The world of SEO and Google is changing all the time, but the working methods to get your site to the top of the rankings are usually the same. All of this and more in this latest episode of Rise of the Entrepreneur with Alex Becker. Rise of the Entrepreneur – Episode 77 with Alex Becker Alex Becker is an entrepreneur and the founder of Source Wave, an SEO software based company. Like most online marketers, Alex started his journey by browsing online forums and seeing the many different ways people were making money online. After following and attempting to contact other ‘SEO experts’ out there, he realized this was the area he wanted to focus his main efforts in. During this process Alex was attempting various link building methods such as comment links and article link building, only to find out that they weren’t working effectively. Alex then went on to create an online dating resource site and finally master the art of SEO. Through the success of his SEO effort, Alex went on to sell his dating site and starting ranking his own affiliate sites and bringing in new SEO clients — all leading up to securing enough money and experience to launch his latest business at SourceWave. Today Alex has his hands in all facets of online marketing and SEO, while his passion is still focused on software and automation. Through his expertise and a powerful team of SEO experts around him, SourceWave is quickly becoming one of the top resources for the latest trends in the industry and what’s working with SEO. Talking Points Discussed in this Episode: The creation of Source Wave and providing SEO services How to build a team of successful SEO experts around you Creating online video and using humor to stand out from the crowd Using Facebook Ads, video and webinars to drive sales Showing real life SEO case studies to improve webinars Source Wave Marketplace: What it is and how it works Three great Q&A questions for Alex in the Pit of Fire -> Download this episode to your computer. ROTE 076: Peter Shankman and Why Nice Companies Finish First
As entrepreneurs and business experts, we are continually trying to find new and effective ways to deliver value to our audience and customers. While providing a service might seem easy enough, why are so many brands doing such a bad job at it? For instance, why is the process of booking a flight, getting to the airport and flying through the skies for a few hours such a pain? Mostly because the airlines are doing a terrible job on their customer service and experience. In short, brands needs to stop looking at customers as just a number and instead a way to predict their own success in the future. These are all key components to creating a successful business and brand that stands out from the crowd… and also many of the key points in this latest episode of Rise of the Entrepreneur with Peter Shankman. Rise of the Entrepreneur – Episode 76 with Peter Shankman Peter Shankman is an author, entrepreneur and the original founder of HARO – Help a Reporter Out. When first starting out the HARO web site and service, Peter wanted to create a site and mailing list that provided extreme value to his audience, while also eliminating the time it took for himself to personally run the business, while also connecting experts with publishers and media outlets in the process. The concept of the business was simple, but the personality and experience that Shankman brought to HARO was what made it stand out from the crowd. After successfully selling HARO for millions, Shankman now focuses his time and effort consulting with big name agencies like NASA, writing multiple books and also his new venture at Shankminds.com, where he connects with other like-minded entrepreneurs and experts. Talking Points Discussed in this Episode: The concept of HARO and building it into what it is today How to market yourself as an expert and get consulting deals Three stories from Peter’s journey and why each is important The best ways to get media coverage and press What makes Peter’s business card so special Three great Q&A questions for Peter in the Pit of Fire -> Download this episode to your computer.
