Episode 007: Music Licensing ft. Dae Bogan of The MLC
Dae Bogan is the Head of Third-Party Partnerships with The MLC (Music Licensing Collective), a newly-formed nonprofit organization designated by the U.S. Copyright Office pursuant to the historic Music Modernization Act of 2018.Starting in January 2021, The MLC will issue and administer blanket mechanical licenses to eligible streaming and download services (digital service providers or DSPs) in the United States. The MLC will then collect the royalties due under those licenses from the DSPs and pay songwriters, composers, lyricists, and music publishers. In this episode, we start by talking about his journey from the Midwest to LA in pursuit of a music career, his experience as a founder and former CEO of multiple music-tech startups (which was how we met), hard lessons learned from entrepreneurship, and how he landed an Executive role with The MLC.Lastly, it was imperative that I addressed some of the misinformation floating around the web regarding The MLC royalty collection. Dae dispelled the myths regarding distributor payouts, and reassured us that The MLC is committed to matching "Black Box" royalties. If you're an entrepreneur, music creator or publisher, this is a must watch!CONNECT WITH DAE BOGANWebsite - https://daeboganmusic.com/Instagram - https://instagram.com/daeboganmusicFacebook - https://facebook.com/daeboganmusicTwitter - https://twitter.com/daeboganmusicCONNECT WITH THE MLCWebsite - https://themlc.com/Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/mlc_usFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/MLC.US/Twitter - https://twitter.com/mlc_us

Episode 003: Being You ft. Mama Duke
Mama Duke is a 2x Austin Hip-Hop Award winning artist and 1x Austin Music Award Nominee. Taking home both “Artist of the Year” and “Female Artist of the Year” in one night, it’s no wonder she can move effortlessly in a male dominated industry. Opening up for the group ‘Naughty by Nature’ within’ the first 3 months of her 1st ever performance (since moving to Austin, Tx to pursue music) gave her the adrenaline she needed to catapult her into everyone's Top 3 females in Hip-Hop in Texas. I learned of Mama Duke through another Austin artist. She caught my attention because she's accomplished quite a bit and has made an incredible name for herself by simply being authentic. Being a black (mexican), queer/married woman in a male/heterosexual dominated industry is not easy. In this episode, we dive deep into how she's been able to generate revenue, land big opportunities, and overcome the many challenges that artists face while trying to pursue a career in music as an unapologetic artist and brand. Enjoy.FOLLOW MAMA DUKEhttps://instagram.com/mama.dukehttps://soundcloud.com/mamadukehttp://mamaduketv.bandcamp.com/https://twitter.com/MamaDukeTVhttps://www.youtube.com/user/MamaDukeTV
