Interview with Warren Davis, Creator of Q*bert
Retro Game Guys Podcast is proud to welcome Warren Davis. Warren has a long list of accomplishments in the video game industry, including programming the classic arcade hit Q*bert. Released in 1982, Q*bert has since become one of the most popular arcade games of all time, and a beloved pop culture character. Following Q*bert, Warren developed the Laserdisc game Us Vs. Them. He also broke new ground in game design by developing digitization technology that was used to create the iconic visuals in Mortal Kombat, Terminator 2 the Arcade Game, Revolution X starring Aerosmith, and Narc. In 2018, Warren was inducted into the International Video Game Hall of Fame alongside a couple of other legends that we have had the pleasure of interviewing: Howard Phillips and David Crane.  Warren has a book titled “You Can’t Call It @!#?@! - Stories from a life making video games.” (The "@!#?@!" is the cartoon balloon that pops up when Q*bert loses a life in the game.) We talked to Warren about a range of topics including his time at Gottlieb and Williams, the shortcomings of Laserdisc games, his favorite ports of Q*bert, and what he's up to now. Follow Warren on Twitter: @WarrenDavis29.  Hope you enjoy the interview.   Don't miss an episode! Subscribe and follow us! Interview with Howard Phillips, the Game Master
As part of our Super Mario Bros SUPER celebration, we are proud to present our interview with former Nintendo of America Spokesman Howard Phillips!    If you grew up with the NES, Super Mario Bros. and Nintendo Power magazine like we did, there’s a name that you will surely recognize: Howard Phillips aka the Game Master. Howard was Nintendo’s most prominent spokesman here in the US during the golden age of the NES and his Game Master Persona - a friendly guy with a bowtie and mad gaming skills - was someone who all of us kids wanted to be. But Howard was much more than just a public face of Nintendo back in the day, as we will learn much more about in this interview. He played many roles within the company, had a hand in the success of the NES, Super Mario Bros. and countless other games. He also helped Nintendo evolve from the arcade-focused company that they were in the early 80’s to the dominant force in console gaming that they became in later years. It’s clear that video gaming would not be what it is today without the work of Howard Phillips, the Game Master.   Don't miss an episode! Subscribe and follow us!
