SEO is a term a lot of marketers are familiar with. If you’re a business owner or professional, you may have heard of it, yet have no clue what the heck it is! Don’t worry, I’ll go over it in this episode and threw in some free tips on how you can utilize it yourself. SEO stands for search engine optimization. This is the tactic of getting your business’ website to rank high on search engines. So… what does this mean when translated into English? You can have potential customers see your website the first time they search for your product or service before they see one of your competitors. This is done on websites like Google, Bing, Yahoo and many more! How long does this take? About 6 to 12 months is the average we have seen to rank sites on the first page of Google. Now this will differ depending on how competitive of a keyword you are trying to rank for. So now you might be wondering, what the heck is a keyword? Simply put, it is a word that people will use when searching for what you have to offer. Say that you sell baseball bats. When someone searches the term “Baseball Bats”, they are using your keyword. Now that example is a competitive one. So what is the best way to get around that if you’re just starting out? The answer is… Long tail keywords. These are keywords that are usually longer than 3 words. It is a more descriptive way of finding your site. Say that you sell baseball bats in Dallas. If you were to make your keyword a longtail one of “Baseball Bats in Dallas”, you have a much better chance of ranking faster for that keyword.
