RSR PC 037 Ben Michael WESU GM

We talked to Ben Michael on episode 37. Ben is the General Manager of WESU, Middletown - 88.1FM, wesufm.org.  We talk to Ben about the current state of the station specifically and about what it's like to operate in pandemic conditions at a University - Wesleyan in this case.  [caption id="attachment_6122" align="alignnone" width="2560"] Ben Michael[/caption] We talked about the mission of WESU, the part it plays in the community and of some particular shows of interest on there. Some history of the station is touched on as well as some noted alumni. And we talk to Ben about his personal history with the station and with music in general and about his homestead farm with his mule and donkey and chickens and goats!  We once again recorded outside in our back parking lot to maintain a nice social distance and it once again led to us dealing with the elements - especially some strong winds and of course the passing trains.  Links: http://www.wesufm.org/ https://soundcloud.com/wesufm MUSIC Opening: Laurie Anderson "Difficult Listening Hour" Home of the Brave (Warner Brothers) Josh: Jon Hassell "Fearless" Seeing Through Sound (Pentimento Volume Two) (Ndeya) Gulch "Self-Inflicted Mental Terror" Impenetrable Cerebral Fortress (Closed Casket Activities) Broken Vow Demo 2020 (Self Released) Of the Wand & The Moon "Whispers of the Past" Tainted Tears (Heiðrunar Myrkrunar) Rick: Elysia Crampton "Homeless (Q'ara)" Orcorara 2010 (PAN) East Man "Ouroboros" Prole Art Threat (Planet Mu) John Bence "Kill" Kill (Thrill Jockey) Nubya Garcia "The Message Continues" Source (Concord Jazz) Ben (music bed): Prince Far I "Throw Away Your Gun" Dubwise (UMG) Closing: Fishbone "Party at Groundzero" Fishbone (CBS/Columbia) The Redscroll Podcast is a monthly show (new episodes on the first of the month) that works as a companion to what we do at Redscroll Records in Wallingford, CT USA. We are a record store that has a heavy emphasis on the left of center / underground music of the world. Whether it be underappreciated or just has a niche audience, marginalized or just off the radar it’s all of interest to us. With the show we’ll generally have a localized focus. We’ll discuss what is in our personal rotation at the moment. We’ll talk to guests who have to do with all of the above. And we’ll talk about specific dealings with the store. If you have input you’re welcome to contact us through email (redscroll@gmail.com). Oh, and please do subscribe! New episodes on the first of every month! (Subscribe on Android)(Subscribe elsewhere just by searching for us please!)
