'God Bless This Mess!' with Michael & Alicia Hernon
God Bless This Mess!: In this episode, we hear from Michael and Alicia Hernon, Catholic parents of ten children and founders of the Messy Family Project, an apostolate that seeks to accompany couples to embrace and joyfully live out their vocation to parenthood in the messy realities of life. We discuss Mike and Alicia’s stories and story, how the foundation of a thriving family is putting God and your spouse first, and how God works with and through our “mess” to bring about something beautiful and show forth His glory.  --About Michael and Alicia Hernon Michael and Alicia Hernon are the founders of The Messy Family Project, a ministry that  empowers moms and dads to embrace their sacred calling at home and gives them the tools to do so.  As parents of 10 children, Mike and Alicia bring inspirational and practical insights into family life to parents all over the world through their podcast, downloadable resources from their website, and online workshops for parents.     As they have sought to serve other families, Mike and Alicia have been also raising their own children in Steubenville OH.  They have 5 children at home, 5 who have successfully “launched”, and grandchildren as well.  Their children have been their greatest joy and challenge in this life, as well as their path to heaven.  Without their children, there would be no podcast, since 10 kids certainly do make for very messy parenting!  Their podcast started as a response to their family members who asked that they share their experiences, not as experts giving clinical advice, but simply as fellow parents. The podcast has now been active for 6 years and has been downloaded over a million times. Their podcasts and resources over various topics such as “7 Ways to Spice up Your Marriage”, “Yelling, the Lazy Approach to Parenting” and “Yes, Your Kids Can be Best Friends”.  For more information you can visit their website at  www.MessyFamilyProject.org --Host: Mario CostabileCohost: Dr. David Hajduk Visit our website: https://arrayofhope.org/ Sign up for FREE on the Array of Hope Channel app: https://watch.arrayofhope.net/ Available on Apple TV, Roku, iOS, and Android mobile devices. 'Miracles Do Happen' with Dr. Ben Carson
Miracles Do Happen: In this episode, we are honored to have Dr. Ben Carson - the world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon, Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, two-time speaker at the National Prayer Breakfast, presidential candidate, and author. We discuss Dr. Carson’s life and faith, and how he almost miraculously overcame adversity, and went from a life of dire poverty to national recognition. Dr. Carson will share some stories of real miracles he witnessed as a neurosurgeon. We will also discuss what miracles are and the essential part they play in our Faith. --About Dr. Ben Carson Neurosurgeon, medical director, foundation executive and author Dr. Benjamin Solomon Carson, Sr. was born on September 18, 1951 in Detroit Michigan, to Sonya and Robert Solomon Carson. After the couple separated, Carson and his brother Curtis lived with their mother. Although she worked several jobs at a time, Sonya supported the family and played a tremendous role in shaping the lives of her sons. Upon seeing her sons’ poor performance in school, Sonya required them to read regularly and to present her with weekly book reports, although she herself only had a third grade education and had difficulty reading. In 1969, Carson graduated with honors as the student “Most likely to succeed,” from Southwestern High School, a public school located in southwest Detroit, Michigan. During his early years, although Carson had improved his grades considerably, he had to overcome his temper. After an incident in which he almost stabbed a friend, Carson made up his mind to change his ways. Upon receiving his high school diploma, Carson attended Yale University, where he would meet his future wife, Lacena “Candy” Rustin. After graduating from Yale University with his B.A. degree in psychology in 1973, he went on to the University of Michigan School of Medicine. After receiving his M.D. degree in 1977, Carson trained at Johns Hopkins University, where he completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in neurological surgery. In 1983, Carson traveled to Perth, Australia to serve as a senior registrar in neurosurgery at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. A year later, he returned to Johns Hopkins and by the following year was named Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery. In 1987, through a ground-breaking surgical procedure, Carson successfully separated conjoined twins who were attached at the head. Outside of his work as a world-renowned surgeon, Carson has been civically active. Using his own life story as a background, Carson has written four motivational books, which include: "Gifted Hands" in 1990, "The Big Picture" in 2000, "Think Big" in 2006, and "Take the Risk: Learning to Identify, Choose, and Live with Acceptable Risk" in 2007. The first of these works served as the inspiration for a film of the same title, in which Cuba Gooding, Jr. plays the role of Carson. Carson has also created three foundations—the Carson Scholars Fund, the Ben Carson Reading Project, and Angels of the Operating Room. He serves on the board of directors of the Kellogg Company and CostCo Wholesale Corporation. In 2008, President George W. Bush presented Carson with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian award. Carson and his wife have three sons, Murray Nedlands, Benjamin Solomon, Jr. and Rhoeyce Harrington. --Host: Mario CostabileCohost: Dr. David Hajduk Visit our website: https://arrayofhope.org/ Sign up for FREE on the Array of Hope Channel app: https://watch.arrayofhope.net/ Available on Apple TV, Roku, iOS, and Android mobile devices. Remembering Alice von Hildebrand
This past year we witnessed the passing of Alice von Hildebrand, Catholic philosopher and author, and wife of one of the foremost theologians and philosophers of the 20th century, Dietrich von Hildebrand. In this podcast episode we share portions of an interview with Alice conducted by Mario Costabile several years ago, as a tribute to this amazing and influential Catholic woman. Alice discusses her concerns about the state of education, the breakdown of the family and the contemporary attacks on the family, and the crucial role that women play in the plan of God. She also shares her view that the key to building a culture of life, as well as strong marriages, is personal holiness. --About Alice von Hildebrand Alice von Hildebrand was a Belgian-born American Catholic philosopher, theologian, author, and professor. She taught philosophy at Hunter College for 37 years and became an internationally beloved figure through her many books and articles and numerous radio and television appearances.   She is the widow of the famous Catholic philosopher, Dietrich von Hildebrand, whose work she developed and made her own, making important contributions especially to the Catholic understanding of marriage and of femininity.   Despite misogyny and anti-Catholicism at every turn, Alice von Hildebrand was a professor of philosophy for nearly 40 years in New York City. In a climate of relativism, she championed the objectivity of truth. Some students on the verge of despair found a reason for living; many, despite the fact that she never mentioned religion, converted to Catholicism.   Alice von Hildebrand passed into eternal life on January 14, 2022, leaving behind wisdom found in her many books including The Privilege of Being a Woman, Man and Woman: A Divine Invention, and her autobiography Memoirs of a Happy Failure. --Host: Mario Costabile Visit our website: https://arrayofhope.org/ Sign up for FREE on the Array of Hope Channel app: https://watch.arrayofhope.net/ Available on Apple TV, Roku, iOS, and Android mobile devices.
