Keys To Putting (and keeping) Your Plan in Action Start slowly and increase gradually. Find a support buddy. Ask for help. Install variety. Modify the 'i.t.' in your F(requencey)I(ntensity)T(type) T(time) principle for optimal results. A Note on Lapsing Everyone falls off their fitness and wellness goals/programs. That's called life. But, keep in mind, you're not perfect, and most of us do not compete or perform this task as a part of our job or careers. With that in mind, here are a few tips: Don't judge (yourself included) Keep it visual. Continue to visualize success. If you fail to plan, plan to fail. Plan for difficult situations and scenarios. IF you find yourself not wanting to do any exercise or activity, remember this: physical activity is the one thing that will prompt a sense of rejuvenation and energy.

Wellness in 60 Seconds - Expert Virtual Wellness Coaching, Take 4
Everything that you eat either adds to your health or takes away from it. The macronutrients in your diet, include carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. They are called 'macro', because they're needed in large quantities. Carbohydrates, aka sugars, are critical for brain function, energy production, and they also aid fat metabolism. So, you need them. Fats perform several roles. They are also the preferred source of energy for the body in low resting states. They provide insulation for your muscles and nerves, and help the brain send signals across the highways of nerves in the body. This is why many girls who suffer from the eating disorder anorexia shiver, lose hair, or die from cardiac arrest, as the body's unable to send signals back and forth to the brain, and the lack of pprotein and fat stints hair growth. Speaking of proteins, proteins are critical. Protiens are the building blocks of cells. Simplified, They make up the helix of DNA, or the stuff that makes you, you. Proteins can't be stored in the body, and are eventually broken down by the body for energy in the presence of an inadequate diet. The point is, all of these macros are critical for everyday function, and so that the micronutrients (which I'll discuss in future takes) can do their job without being interrupted. You ever heard of the phrase, "robing Peter to pay Paul? Well, that's what happens when you don't have an adequate balance of macros. When the body is in lack, each of the macros begin plucking from each other's nest, until the body has what it needs. So be careful to get, on average,: 50-60% carbs 15-20% fats 15-20% proteins Diet well! Visit our website! Like us on facebook!

Real.Simple.Wellness. E016: A True Lesson in Wellness from a Woman with Terminal Cancer
A few years ago, I had to opportunity to work in a clinical exercise rehabilitation center with cancer patients. Working with individuals who have cancer proved to be a humbling experience. Their sense of life and its purpose often changes and becomes renewed after the diagnosis, especially if its a very progressive cancer that's untreatable and has a high probability of being terminal. I learned a invaluble lesson in wellness from a particular woman diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I'd like to share that story with you. Check out this story and more on the RSW website! Real Simple Wellness E015: The truth about diets, why they don't work in most cases, and what you should do instead.
When a person comes to me, asking about dietary change and other behavioral modifications, in most cases, they also present to me several things: 1. evidence of why previous diets don't work 2. evidece of why the new diet they found will work 3. All the reasons as to why they haven't been successful. 4. The uniqueness of their body, in general. 5. In some cases, a plan to get it done, this time. I applaud people for continually trying and trying to get themselves in better physical, mental, and spiritual condition. But what I don't applaud is insanity: And I think we all know what this is: doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results. -- Today, on the RSW podcast, I talk about why most wellness diets don't work, and a simple way to start one that actually works in your favor. I welcome feedback! Please let me know what you'd love to hear. This show's for you? Leave feedback in: Itunes! Stitcher! or, on the webpage! Thanks! Dr. C

Real Simple Wellness Bonus Episode: Why your vocabulary is just as important to wellness as your diet, exercise, and other ventures
I was reflecting this morning, and said to myself: Man, I've got a LOT that I have to do within the next 30 days: I have to prepare my lectures for my job as a professor. (slacker) I have to wash my car and get an oil change I have to write a few more chapters in two books I'm working on. I have to read my bible. I have to read and send some emails. I have to, I have to, I have to... Then it occurred to me. Wait. I don't HAVE to do anything. But I GET to do A LOT OF THINGS. Today, I want to talk about how the word 'get' changed the way I think about myself, talk to myself, and talk to others, and I want to encourage you to do the same. ****On a side note: I get to help people reach the optimal state of wellness. Check out the improved website for more information and other podcast episodes and other resources! This is about service. Service to others. If that's not your goal, we need to talk! **** Have a great weekend! Tyrone

Real.Simple.Wellness. E12: 50 Shades of Wellness
Yea, Yea, Yea, we all know the benefits of exercise - our society seems to have adopted a fitness fad. If that's true, why are we still faced with the same percentage of people dealing with mental issues: anxiety, depression, etc.? Many people use exercise as a coping mechanism. I did, because that's what I was taught. Now, I think a little different about exercise and fitness. As a matter of fact, I think it's terrible to do that. In today's episode, I discuss why you should STOP doing that as well. Truth is, when you do that, you're actually not recieving the true, holistic benefits of exercise, becuase you're stressing over something that's been eating at you for much longer than you've been working out. Hmmm.
