010: Speaking Of Assholery... ft. Rooster's Ice Cream
Sometimes two things that are amazing on their own combine to produce something truly transcendent, and sometimes they leave you wanting more. This week we wrap up our first season with a daring attempt to find out which category two of our favourite desserts will fall into when combined.  Donuts and Ice Cream.  Ok, so I know the buildup was maybe a bit over the top, we already know this is going to be amazing right? Right??? I mean, how could it possibly be bad...   The Goods The ice cream and donut combination from Rooster''s Ice Cream. Is it worth it? A look back at some of our favourite moments from season 1 What our mom's think of the podcast More hate mail (all directed squarely at Kevin...) A look ahead to season 2 Links Rooster's Ice Cream

009: Getting Off The Eaten Track
We have some fun this week (more fun than usual...) as we take this show on the road and record our experience on Vancouver food tour company Off The Eaten Track's gourmet ice cream tour! What's more, we're joined by one very lucky listener who managed to win her way onto the show and chip in with her ice cream thoughts! What's more, we're joined by one very lucky listener who managed to win her way onto the show and chip in with her ice cream thoughts! Along the tour we make stops at 4 different ice cream shops, one we were familiar with, but the other three of which we had no idea even existed (or at least that they served ice cream)! Have you ever done a food tour? Let us know in the comments on our site!   The Goods: The low down on 4 off the beaten track ice cream shops, all doing very different things with ice cream Beer + Ice cream: good idea or not? 008: One For The Vegans
You know how for the longest time, if you mentioned "vegan ice cream" to anyone, the most likely response was at the very least a wrinkling of their nose? Well this week we hit up the brand spanking new Umaluma Dairy Free Gelato to put that reaction to the test. Before opening in Vancouver's Chinatown, Umaluma's co-founders spent two years in R&D crafting the perfect vegan base for their delicious creations. As we discuss in this episode, the wait was worth it. We also dig deeper into some of the science behind some of the claims we made in episode 4 on what your ice cream preferences say about you.   Have you ever had vegan ice cream? What were your thoughts on it?   The Goods: Our thoughts on one of Vancouver's newest Vegan gelato shops Some backstory on how Umaluma got it's start Cleaning up some of the questions from our past episodes Links: Umaluma Dairy Free Gelato How Your Sense Of Smell Is Like A Superpower (and what is says about your personality) Vancouver's Most Recommended Ice Cream Shops

007: Cookies & Cream: What's The Deal With Ice Cream Add Ons? Ft Innocent Ice Cream
Ok, so I think we can all agree that ice cream is amazing right? I mean you're actually listening to a podcast dedicated entirely to ice cream! But while ice cream is great on its own, something magical happens when you pair it with the perfect topping, sauce, or side dish. Sometimes a whole new category of ice cream treat is created, as in the case of the ice cream sandwich.  No longer are ice cream sandwiches the sole territory of grocery and convenience stores. Artisanal ice cream shops like Innocent Ice Cream in Vancouver are popping up who specialize specifically in ice cream these delightful treats.  Oh what a time to be alive. This week we pay a visit to Innocent to see what the fuss is about (the fuss is mostly from Jer who's been to Innocent 4 times in the past couple weeks...). Kev and Jer also achieve a life goal, besting Tiff in a manner no one who knows her would think possible, and we discuss the question: If you could only choose one ice cream topping from now until eternity, what would it be? Some of the answers might surprise you.   The Goods: The low down on Innocent Ice Cream If you could only have one ice cream topping for the rest of your life, what would it be? 006: To The Death: Extreme Ice Cream Eating Ft. Tangram Creamery
So you might not realize this, but there exists an entire sport(?) known as competitive eating. What's more, they have their own legit sounding league and everything in the form of Major League Eating (MLE). Many of us are familiar with the famous annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, which for many years featured superstars Takeru Kobayashi and Joey Chestnut duking it out over copious amounts of hot dogs in a bid for eternal glory (or something like that). Well it turns out, that the sport is a multifaceted one and the competitions are broader in scope than we had realized. In fact, one recent contest saw Joey Chestnut emerge once again as the cream of the crop (yeah, that's a pun) with an overtime ice cream sandwich eating contest victory.  This got us thinking about our own escapades in the competitive eating arena, both past and potential... We also rave about what might be our favourite ice cream shop in the city, Tangram Creamery.   The Goods: Some of our personal past eating challenges  Is Tangram the best ice cream in the city? 005: When Ice Cream Disappoints ft. La Casa Gelato
Have you ever had a disappointing ice cream experience? We discuss some of the ice cream disappointments we've experienced in our lives, and what we learned in the process. We also give our thoughts on a Vancouver staple, La Casa Gelato, home to 238 flavours of gelato. La Casa is one of the most fun ice cream (yeah, I know it's actually gelato) experiences in the city, and if you haven't been you should definitely check it out.   The Goods: What is tart? How do you describe a taste? Can almost any flavour be good in ice cream form? Some of our ice cream disappointments, and where to avoid in Vancouver Tiff makes a bunch of puns... 004: What's Your Ice Cream Identity? Ft. Rain Or Shine Homemade Ice Cream
Have you ever wondered what flavour of ice cream best describes your personality? Yeah, probably not, but just in case you're curious, we've unearthed one of the internets many hidden gems. This one comes in the form of an ice cream identity quiz from the wonderful nerds at icecream.com (yes, we totally have to have them on the podcast). We discuss our results, Kevin shares some strong opinions about the quiz, and we cover the lowdown on the birthday ice cream treats two of us recently enjoyed. This week's ice cream comes from Rain Or Shine Ice Cream on 4th Ave in Vancouver (one of two locations), and we share our thoughts on this ice cream staple in the city. We would love to hear your results from the ice cream quiz! Leave us a comment on our website or get at us @raincityscoop on Twitter and Instagram!   The Goods: Our ice cream identities and thoughts on the quiz  Should these results be included in a dating profile? What do ice cream personality types have to do with compatibility?  A belated birthday bash for two of our hosts, not to mention a big one for our country  Our thoughts on Rain Or Shine Ice Cream in Vancouver (yes we fawn over the waffle cones)    Links: Rain Or Shine Ice Cream icecream.com What's Your Ice Cream Identity?

003: Give Me Your Sweet Cream Ft. Earnest Ice Cream
So there's something of a long standing debate among Vancouver ice cream lovers as to whether Earnest Ice Cream, or Rain Or Shine is the better ice cream shop. This week we head to Earnest to find out what they're all about before checking out the competition next week.  We also learn a ton about ice cream in the 2nd World War, Tiff holds a trivia challenge, and Kevin finds his mind going to dirty places - as per usual.    We also want to let you know that we've extended our contest to win a gourmet ice cream tour by ONE WEEK! So leave us a review on iTunes and then shoot us an email when you've done so to enter!   The Goods: Ice cream's colourful history in the WWII era When did artisanal ice cream make a comeback?  Do we actually owe our ice cream selection to Starbucks???  Links: Review us on iTunes to win a gourmet ice cream tour from Off The Eaten Track! 002: Does This Look Like Testicles? Ft. Beta 5
If you're anything like us, ice cream is most definitely something you do when you're at home, but there's also something comforting about it when you're away from home.  In this episode we discuss our favourite international ice cream experiences over sundaes from Beta 5's weekly Saturday Ice Cream Social.  Kevin also shares a harrowing ice cream experience that brought on amnesia for him, and we talk ice cream scooping methods before the conversation devolves into bawdy territory and shocked parents from around our "studio" bust through the door to shut us down... HEY YOU! If the sound of a gourmet ice cream tour with Off The Eaten Track strikes your fancy, we've got a special surprise for you! We're giving one away! Huzzah! All you have to do is head over to our iTunes page and leave us a rating and review! Be sure to email us at raincityscoop@gmail.com once you've done that to let us know you've entered! Good Luck!   The Goods: The low down on Beta 5 and their delicious (if expensive) ice cream sundaes. Are they worth the money?? 001: What Makes Ice Cream So Damn Good? Ft. Rooster's Ice Cream Bar
Do you know the origins of the delicious treat we now know as (and some of us obsess over) as ice cream? Yeah, ok well neither do we, but that doesn't stop us from diving into some of the history of our favourite treat with a healthy dose of speculation.  We also dive into what it is about ice cream that draws us to it. I mean, we care enough about ice cream that we actually started a podcast about it... I mean, that's actual WORK for crying out loud! I tell ya, either we're geniuses with a deep appreciation for the beauty life has to offer our taste buds, or a bunch of idiots sitting around a table with slowly (or not so much so) forming cavities pontificating on dessert... I suppose only time will tell. This week's feature ice cream shop is Rooster's Ice Cream at 1039 E Broadway in Vancouver. None of us had been to this fairly new shop that opened it's doors a couple of years ago, but we all agreed that it was well worth the visit, especially if you're in the neighborhood.  Is there an ice cream shop in your neighborhood that has a great "local" vibe? Maybe not somewhere you would travel across the city for, but somewhere you have to hit up when you're in the area? Let us know on Twitter @raincityscoop or by email at raincityscoop@gmail.com.   * If you feel inclined to rate and review this podcast, DON'T! At least not yet! We've got something special planned around next week's episode relating to this topic, and we have a feeling that you're not going to want to miss out on it. I'll give you a hint: If the prospect of winning a spot on a GOURMET ICE CREAM TOUR piques your interest, you may want to tune in next week...*   The goods: Ice Cream: Origins (that's our movie treatment working title...) 000: Introducing Rain City Scoop
Ok, we all love ice cream right? Yeah, that's what I thought, we're with you. In fact, we love ice cream so much that simply consuming it wasn't enough! So we created this podcast to engage with ice cream on a more intellectual (well, ok we'll let you be the judge of that) and perhaps slightly comedic level.    Get to know a bit about the show in this short episode with your host's Kevin, Tiff, and Jeremy.
