Ep 26: Is The Resistance Against President Trump Healthy or Harmful For America?
In the aftermath of President Trumps inauguration there have been several protests around the world in response to his election and his executive orders. Many of his detractors have expressed an unwillingness to be supportive and they feel like he has already proven to be unqualified for the position of POTUS. Ep 25: #Perspectives w/Dalyn Montgomery
This is the first in a series of interview shows titled #Perspectives. For this series we will interview people who we believe provide an interesting point of view about race relations in America based on their life experiences. During this podcast Scott interviews Dalyn Montgomery. Dalyn is a European American man from Utah who grew up as a Conservative Republican Mormon in a predominantly Euro American town. It was during a missionary trip at age 19 to Atlanta GA. to serve in predominantly African American communities during the 1990's that his views on race relations changed. Listen now as Dalyn shares perspective from his time in the SWATS and Bankhead Atlanta where he gained perspective about the realities of what he was witnessing by listening to The Goodie Mob; to his time serving in a Mormon church in North Philadelphia attended by both poor local residents and affluent Univ. Penn Grad students; and the reality of dealing with having a grandfather who refused to attend his wedding because he was marrying an African American woman. This is a fascinating #Perspective that you do not want to miss! Welcome To The Dialogue! Resources: Dalyns Blog: Brohammas.com Contact: Brohammas@gmail.com

Ep 24: Will Trump's Presidency Hurt African Americans?
All across social media African American people (and other ethnic and social minority groups) are expressing fears and concerns about Donald Trump's presidency. Many of them say that Trump has chosen “known white supremacists” for cabinet positions and that these choices along with his campaign rhetoric has emboldened extremist white supremacist groups and individuals. Many Trump supporters, including Race Haven co-host John Costino, reject this line of thinking and believe that the media is responsible for promoting these fear based storylines. So should African American's be fearful for their wellbeing in this current social political climate? Guests LaNee Javet & Montoya Smith join Scott Speed and co-host John Costino for Episode 24 of the Race Haven Podcast to share their perspectives on this question and more! Listen now to hear their perspectives on this topic and to see what happens when people who disagree engage in thoughtful authentic discourse. Welcome to the Dialogue! Ep 23: Was A Win For Trump A Win For Racism In America?
Last week our nation elected Donald Trump to be the next president of the United States of America. While a large segment of Americans were excited another large segment of Americans have expressed fear about what his victory means for race relations in America. Many people feel like Trump's victory sends a message that his "white" voters are not concerned with the well-being of African Americans, Latinos, woman, LGBTQ, and religious minorities. They feel like Donald Trump has opened pandoras box and unleashed the pinned up racist ideals that many of his voters share. While many of his voters feel that these claims are unfounded and unfair and that they simply made the best decision they could based on policy and party beliefs.   Ra'id Curtis DeVeaux and Denny Faircloth join Scott Speed for Episode 23 of the Race Haven Podcast. Denny voted for Trump, and Ra'id did not. Tune in now to hear their perspectives on this topic and to see what happens when people who disagree engage in thoughtful discourse. Welcome To The Dialogue!

Ep 22: Communication is Key - "Colin Kaepernick's Protest" Show Follow up
Episode 22 is a follow-up from episode 21 which was promoted in the "Race Haven Community Dialogue" Facebook group as a dialogue between John and Scott about an open letter written to Colin Kaepernick that was posted on an online news site called the Independent Journal Review.  In response to the uproar in the "Race Haven Community Dialogue" over Scott's statement that "John supports this article. I don't" and the fact that they didn't dissect the letter the way they intended to do on the previous show they wanted to record and release this episode as an immediate follow-up. In this episode they break down and share their individual perspective of the letter paragraph by paragraph using dialogue as the framework.  Welcome To The Dialogue!  Resources: An Open Letter to Colin Kaepernick  Short link: http://goo.gl/sNlJ2Z  "The New Jim Crow" Lecture by Michelle Alexander  Short link: http://goo.gl/Tpxagz

Ep 21: Colin Kaepernick's Protest
In this epsisode of Race Haven Scott & John dialogue about their views on NFL player Colin Kaepernick's national anthem protest. John thinks that Colin Kaepernick took the wrong approach by sitting during the playing of the anthem before last weeks preseason football game. Scott believes that it was exactly the type of protest needed to get the attention of the masses about the rampant abuse of power that has plagued African American communities for decades. Even though they disagree they always remain true to the mission...Authentic Dialogue.  Welcome To The Dialogue!  Resources (copy & paste the short link into your browser)  "An Open Letter To Colin Kaepernick"  Link: http://goo.gl/sNlJ2Z This is the letter that John sent to Scott before the show.  "Many Conservatives Are Blowing It On The Ferguson DOJ Report"  Link: http://goo.gl/2HTzucThis article provides context about why activists are protesting policing in several cities across America.   "A Real Vet Knows That Respect Cannot Be Compelled, Bought, or Inherited"  Link: http://goo.gl/kTbD9JThis article is an amazing letter from one veteran's perspective about the perceived "lack of respect" that Colin Kaepernick is showing by sitting during the national anthem.

Ep 19: Do Scott & John Practice What They Preach?
Scott and John have been in an intense dialogue for over a week leading up to this show due to a disagreement they had about a video John shared in the "Race Haven - Community Dialogue" Facebook group that he felt represented progress during this time of police and race related tension. John shared a viral video of police officers and Black Lives Matter protestors and community members dancing together at a barbecue in Wichita KS. John became upset when Scott and several other Race Haven Community Dialogue members expressed skeptism about whether or not the video represented true progress in the fight for police and criminal justice reforms.  Scott and John have enagaged in phone, text, and Facebook messenger conversations in an attempt to get on the same page. This episode is a culmination of some serious personal reflection by both of them and it tested how much they are truly committed to Solutions Focused Dialogue.   Welcome To The Dialogue! Ep 17: A Week Of Violence. A Nation Divided
Last week our nation was rattled when two videos went viral showing two African American men die after being shot by police officers. Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Philando Castile near St Paul, Minnesota. Later that week 5 Dallas area Police officers named Michael Smith, Lorne Ahrens, Michael Krol, Patrick Zamarripa, & Brent Thompson were gunned down by a man alleged to be targeting white police. Emotions flared all throughout the nation as Black Lives Matter activists and protestors, anti-BLM protestors, and police officer spokespeople sent messages back and forth at one another in dispute about whose “lives mattered” and it played out all across the mass and social media. There is a lot of tension around these issues right now and some fear that things might get worst before they improve. Listen in as Scott & John go through each case separately to share how they percieved each incident and how it made them feel. John also shares how European Americans within his social circles perceived the incidents and Scott does the same from the African American Perspective before they both close out with suggestions for solutions. This is the most important show to date. Welcome to the Dialogue! Find show notes at www.RaceHavenPodcast.com Podcast Episode 17
