A Friday night out and dinner with Linus! I took him on a tour of the heartland university and we sat down chatting on his Pulses of Design Exploration. This time I met up with Stefano Virgilli, director of VOX Labs School of Visual Arts right on top of the Orchard Road for a little coffee on a Monday afternoon. Ever since I have known Stef almost 3 years ago at a Barcamp Singapore 2008, he has always been a champion of free sharing and learning of various digital tools for 3D, animation and graphics. A very experienced graphics, 3D and animation designer himself, he is also seen at the monthly sessions at the Creative Crew, Adobe User Group in Singapore. He has never failed to make me see the visual or design side of things as well as explaining any technical concepts easily to a vast audience - something that Stefano does really well and i’m learning from him! This time I met up with my decade old high school friend – Ridzuan Ashim. Although it has been more than 10 years, I’m always bumping into Ridz because both of our affinity towards technology and the vibrant hacker community in Singapore. When I first met Preetam more than 4 years back, I was struck by his travels and down-to-earth ways of connecting with people and technology everywhere he went. When he was back in Singapore recently, I had to nudge him for a meetup to know more about how he got started and his thoughts on his work for tomorrow. He still continues to travel widely, while spreading the culture of open sharing and technology through unconference events like Barcamp in the region of South East Asia. What a way to start a Monday morning! Last week, Justin and I went up to Fusionopolis to meet Chris Whitney, the CTO OF HP Singapore and the managing director of HP Labs Singapore, as we chatted with him all about his venture into technological innovations. Chris spoke to us about his childhood foray into technology right up to the point where he became a founding director of HP Labs in Singapore that focusses on cloud computing, mobile and immersive experiences among many others. What struck me the most was how Chris was still very focussed on the human interaction element of every day life and using technology as an enabler and tool!
