The NSW Sapphire Coast and camera gear rental with Davey Rogers
Is there anyone showcasing the stunning region of the NSW Sapphire Coast better than the exceptionally talented Davey Rogers (@davey_rogers)? This week we chat about his love for the area and returning to his birthplace after leaving a successful career in print media working for some of Australia's largest companies to chase his passion for photography. Does gear matter? Does having access to the latest gear make you a better photographer? Does it influence your own drive and motivation to get out shooting more if you have the latest camera gear in your hands? We discuss this as well as the benefits and disadvantages of renting gear both through traditional means, and through the new Kyōyū platform operated by Canon Australia. Davey gives his opinion from a very informed marketing background about just what the Kyōyū platform and any potential competitors in this market means to the photography industry, both from a content developer side as well as from the opinion as gear owners. Davey gets mugged by whales and dives into the water with someone else's rental gear (not really 😆). We get wet chasing seascapes and I test the waterproof rating of some of my gear. The food venues in Bermagui close down when they see me coming with a workshop group. A travel influencer is caught with the same clouds in multiple images she has shared. Listen in to hear more and get inspired by a guest whose passion for photography is second to none.   Thank you to NiSi Filters Australia and Sirui Australia for the ongoing support of this podcast. Food and fashion photography, social media and running a photography business with Julian Lallo
Melbourne based photographer Julian Lallo (@julianlallo) joins me to chat about his passion for all things photography! Julian is a successful food and fashion photographer who is best known on social media for his nature, landscape and travel photography. We chat about the way social media has shaped peoples perception about what he loves to shoot and just what it actually takes to run a photography business when the camera is not in our hands. I discuss my excitement about having my @tassiegrammer Instagram account verified, and find out that Julian had a short lived career as a foot model. Did I also say that Julian started out in photography by shooting shoes? And now works with some of the biggest and best known brands in the world? And has also recently become a father? Listen in to hear more about all of this and so much more! Theres just way too much to list about my chat with Julian in this episode to settle in and learn from an extremely talented (and good looking, apparently 😆) photographer.   Thank you to NiSi Filters Australia and Sirui Australia for the ongoing support of this podcast. The photography sharing economy and mobile technology with Rob Mulally
Rob Mulally (@robmulally) joins me for an in depth and highly intellectual discussion about the "sharing economy" and it's potential impact as it slowly creeps into the photography industry. We speak about several platforms now offering to connect photographers directly with potential clients for rates that are far below what many professional photographers would typically charge. Are these platforms sustainable and what impact will they have on the the rates photographers charge to compete for work? On the flip side to that we discuss the interesting new Kyōyū platform launched by Canon Australia that is also comparable in the "sharing economy". This platform is designed to connect those who either want to try equipment, or need access to specific pieces of camera gear for specific jobs with owners of equipment willing to rent their idle gear out.  There has never been anything like this from a major photography brand, so how could this potentially impact both the rental and retail camera markets? Rob shares his thoughts on mobile photography, Samsung smart phones, underwater photography and chats about his recent trip photographing whales in Tonga. We discuss the standardisation of technology platforms and how USB-C is potentially the future. A new (maybe) Instagram hack comes to light and promises to increase your reach on Instagram (maybe). Listen in this week to one of the most technologically minded photographers I have ever met as I am sure there is plenty you could learn from such a talented content producer!   Thank you to NiSi Filters Australia and Sirui Australia for the ongoing support of this podcast. Fellow colourblind photographer, videographer, blogger and now podcaster Ben Lee (@itchban) joins me this week to chat all things content production! Ben has built a successful career off the back of a lot of hard work and dedication to his craft and now works with some of the biggest brands in the content production industry such as Canon, Adobe and DJI. We have a laugh at ourselves about some of the challenges we face when producing imagery and working professionally in the photography and content production industry while being colourblind. We chat about his new 529 Podcast and the crazy amount of work @demas and himself are putting into their new project, the freelance life and what that means when you decide to quit your "9 to 5" job and so much more! Sit back and "defrag the hard drive" while Ben Broady (@ben_broady) chats with me about the Kimberleys, astro photography, drones and so much more! We dive in depth about Ben's techniques and equipment used while planning and shooting his incredible astro shots and panoramic drone images. Diversity and hard work is the key to success in the photography these days and we chat about that. We go fishing, have crocodiles scaring sharks away, discover the best and worst time to visit the Kimberleys and plan an upcoming trip together by putting helicopters on a boat to get to the remotest of places.
