EP37: 1 Page Marketing Plan
1-Page Marketing Plan    On the Profitable Joyful Consulting podcast, I teach you how to increase your profits and enjoy your business more. In this episode, you’ll learn how to create a 1-page marketing plan for your business this year.   Honestly, most of the consultants I’ve worked with don’t have a plan at all. But part of the secret sauce of a profitable, joyful business is a 1-page marketing plan that drives all your marketing.   This plan also includes prioritizing yourself: because prioritizing yourself is going to make you a more centered and present business owner.   We can pre-think about the year. We can think about the outcome that we want to have for this year, and then we can boil all of that down to one page that can guide our daily activities. In this episode, I teach you how.   Key areas discussed in this episode: Exact steps to create a 1-page marketing plan for your year that drives all of your marketing How to base your 1-page marketing plan on the calendar The most critical thing to incorporate in your plan to make sure you’re prioritizing yourself and planning your business your way How to allow your plan to evolve over the year Tips to plan your daily marketing activities for the year (without getting overwhelmed) Join the ranks of the very rare group of consultants who have an actual marketing plan!   Download my template for making a 1-page marketing plan here. ️️️   Connect with me on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

EP36: Your Word | Theme | Intention For The Year
EP36: Your Word | Theme | Intention For The Year On the Profitable Joyful Consulting podcast, I teach you how to increase your profits and enjoy your business more. It can help guide you as you go as well as understand and interpret things that happen. Learn how in this episode! Key areas discussed in this episode:  How to choose a word or set an intention or theme for your year that actually helps you grow  Why setting intentions helps you create what you want in your life and business Ways my 2020 word of the year showed up in my life and business this year (even through the pandemic) The lovely things I saw happen through the prism of my word of the year in 2020 was certainly a devastating and challenging year in many ways. On the Profitable Joyful Consulting podcast, I teach you how to increase your profits and enjoy your business more. In this episode, you’ll learn how to grow your business by celebrating more!  Celebration is a topic that’s very close to my heart. Rewarding yourself for the wins and successes you’ve gotten is one of the best ways to make the things you want to have happen in your business happen.  And yet, so few consultants make celebration a regular practice. They forget, they feel awkward, they don’t value it....  But, you can really use it to change your life - celebration causes us to more quickly shift our attitude when things are hard, build new habits, and venture outside our comfort zone!  Key areas discussed:  How celebration helps us attract more of what we desire in our businesses - and lives! EP34: How to be More Productive in your Business…But Not in a Soul-Sucking Way
On the Profitable Joyful Consulting podcast, I teach you how to increase your profits and enjoy your business more. In this episode, you’ll learn how to be more productive in your business…but not in a soul-sucking way.  When most people think about productivity, they’re thinking, “How can I get more done in less time, be more efficient and push harder?” And I don’t think you need another podcast episode talking about that.  So in this episode, I talk about ways to do productivity differently - ways that allow for flow, creativity and spending more time in the heart and intuitive space.  When my clients do this, they are far and away more productive, more effective, and even earn more money (a wonderful side effect!).  We’re not robots, so let’s stop talking about productivity and business like we are or should be. Your business should have space in it for you to think, be creative, and be a human.  Listen to this episode to discover: Six ideas for productivity that allow for flow, creativity, and spending more time in heart and intuitive space  How to fill your days with more of what fuels you and is fun for you  A simple, game-changing way to reclaim more of your time  The one big thing that steals your time and makes you cranky  The one key thing you must incorporate into your workday if you want to have a more profitable and joyful business  How to utilize the way your brain works to make your days easier for yourself  Watch this episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/4LHhWlYI7Q4 or listen on your favorite podcast app: https://enlightenedmarketing.com/podcast.

On the Profitable Joyful Consulting podcast, I teach you how to increase your profits and enjoy your business more. In this episode, you’ll get clarity on your business as a spiritual journey with Spiritual Director Christopher Carrick. Christopher and I have observed that entrepreneurs are more likely than the average person to be spiritual seekers. Many of my clients have a spiritual connection to some divinity, something greater than them — outside of a traditional religious institution. They’re delivering their spiritual gifts through the medium of business.   Christopher works almost exclusively with entrepreneurs, and he joins me in this episode to explore business as a spiritual path.  Key areas discussed in this episode: What does it mean for business to be a spiritual path? Christopher shares about the spiritual practice of going into the unknown and what it can teach you. We all know that testimonials are gold in your business and that your happy clients want to give you testimonials. They want to say good things about you and help you to get more clients like them.  But the sticking point happens when it turns into an obligation for them.  We want to ask for testimonials, not delegate To-Do’s.  In this episode, I share exactly how to do this so you can grow your business through consistent, supportive client testimonials.  Key areas discussed in this episode: How to make it easy for your clients to give you testimonials (including video testimonials!)  Eight simple steps to get glowing testimonials that speak to the results you get for your clients  The ideal components to include in your testimonials  What to do with your testimonials to grow your business  What potential clients want to see in your testimonials  I know that if you do the things I’ve described in this episode, it’s going to be so much easier for you to get testimonials and share them with your audience.  Listen to this episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/5yYMpcRqMfw or on your favorite podcast app: https://enlightenedmarketing.com/podcast/

EP29: Why You Need a Virtual CFO For Your Business
On the Profitable Joyful Consulting podcast, I teach you how to increase your profits and enjoy your business more. In this episode, you’ll learn why you need a virtual CFO for your business with guest Patty Lawrence.  Patty, my long-time client and friend, is the Consulting CFO and Founder of TurboExecs. She works with results-oriented business owners to reveal the story behind the numbers with financial tools that skyrocket profitability, productivity and remove barriers to growth and profits. Her clients typically increase the bottom line by at least 15 percent and feel in control of their finances and results. Business owners are often baffled by their numbers and the blurry picture those numbers paint. Their books are at best, a mystery, or at worst, a mess. So it’s no surprise that some business owners are their lowest paid employee. They’re unsure about how much they can afford to invest, or even if they’re prepared for what life throws at them (hello, COVID). Patty knows that. She understands that they need to hear from a calming voice about their business finances. That it’s going to be OK. And that’s exactly what she delivers. If you’re ready to get clear on your numbers, pay yourself well and discover the story behind the numbers in your business, this episode is for you. Get ready to take notes as Patty and I talk about: How a client went from hemorrhaging cash to increasing sales by 20% (and the bottom line by 38%!) by sucking it up and doing the hard work. What every business owner should know: 6 financial management issues that translate across any size business. Information in trends that tell the story behind the numbers in your business. Post-COVID cash position recommendations. Pricing your services for profitability. 3 numbers all business owners must track consistently. The counterintuitive approach she uses that helps her stay in her Joy and Genius zone. How Patty evolved from hourly rates to outcome-based engagements and increased average client size from $2,500 to $132K. You’ll also hear Patty’s remarkable journey from solo entrepreneur to having a team she can trust and the gutsy hire she just made to (gulp) replace herself!  Connect with Patty on LinkedIn and head to her website to use her free salary tool, an Excel sheet that helps you set clear financial goals.  Catch this episode:   On YouTube: https://youtu.be/5yYMpcRqMfw  On your favorite app: https://enlightenedmarketing.com/podcast/

EP28: 6 Tips for Stress-Free Consulting Client Management
On the Profitable Joyful Consulting podcast, I teach you how to increase your profits and enjoy your business more. In this episode, you’ll learn how to have a more profitable and joyful business through stress-free client management.  We’ve talked in the past about both selecting perfect clients and getting results through your clients. Client selection is the number one determiner of profitability (and I would add: joy) in your work with clients.  But once you have that client on board, the next most important thing is client management. We have to manage the work and the clients so that we are able to achieve results through them - and in this episode, I teach you how.  Key areas discussed in this episode:  How you can have more success in your client relationships. 6 tips for stress-free consulting client management. There's nothing more important in client relationships than clear communication. The foundation for that communication is trust, shared understanding, shared vocabulary, and shared goals. I explain how to get there by starting your relationship off on the right foot. The one thing you should always plan for in a client relationship (and how it will help you find more success). Why conflict in the beginning of a client relationship can sometimes be a good thing. How to get your clients excited about working together. If you implement just a few of the actions I mention in this episode, you will see yourself on the path to better client relationships, and that means better results for them and more joy for you. On the Profitable Joyful Consulting podcast, I teach you how to increase your profits and enjoy your business more. In this episode, you’ll learn how to use play - yes, PLAY - to become more creative, achieve your goals, and experience more joy in your business.  Of all the consulting niches I’ve come across, Strategic Play Consultant Gary Ware’s is my favorite! He joins me to share his experience helping clients with team building and problem-solving through “purposeful play” — something that’s missing from most of our adult lives.  You might be thinking…”I don’t have time for play.” Well, Gary says you’re looking at play through the wrong lens. They’re skills that we can develop.  In addition to fun creative ideas for improving your work and home life, you’ll hear Gary bringing in the science to support making these changes.  Key areas covered in this episode: Gary shares the breakthrough experience his client had when he played a game with their sales team. EP24: Stop The Revenue Rollercoaster
On the Profitable Joyful Consulting podcast, I teach you how to increase your profits and enjoy your business more. In this episode, you’ll learn how to stop the revenue rollercoaster.  You'll never be able to grow your business joyfully if you're constantly fighting the peaks and valleys of feast and famine.  I see the revenue rollercoaster happening with people like my client Liz. Liz has many small clients and one huge client. After closing that huge client, she’d coast for so long that she’d start to feel the famine.  Another client, Katie, had a really great spring and signed on tons of new business. Busy with delivery, her firm then fell into a lull, and that lull is starting to really stress her out.    Sound familiar?   In this episode, I’m sharing why the revenue rollercoaster happens in our businesses and what we can do about it. Key areas discussed in this episode:  Not getting clients even though you really want some? I share how to know if you’ve unknowingly put a virtual “closed” sign on your business. Which bad habits actually cultivate the feast or famine cycle. 3 changes to make in your business if you want to stop the revenue rollercoaster for good How to know if you’re spending too much time on the wrong activities (like client delivery!) Marketing is not an event. You need ongoing marketing in order to have a steady stream of clients flowing into your business. I talk about how to create and nurture that flow. EP23: Video Marketing is Hot!
On the Profitable Joyful Consulting podcast, I teach you how to increase your profits and enjoy your business more. In this episode, you’ll learn how to grow your business with videos. Video marketing is effective, efficient, and powerful — and yet so many consultants hesitate to use video at all or as much as they should.  There are many reasons for that, like… “Making videos is hard.”  “Making videos isn’t convenient.” “There’s never enough time to make videos. I can’t fit that into my week.” “All the equipment, technology, editing, production…it feels overwhelming.” Sound familiar? I hear you. But the truth remains that video marketing is a powerful growth tool for your business, and there are plenty of ways to overcome these hurdles.  Key areas discussed in this episode: Why you need to be using video in your business (including the unique opportunities using video offers you). Some of the key blocks consultants have with using video and how you can get through them. 5 essential ways to use video in your business. EP22: Visioning To Grow The Business You Want
On the Profitable Joyful Consulting podcast, I teach you how to increase your profits and enjoy your business more. In this episode, you’ll learn how to grow your business by using visioning and vision statements.   Visioning is about envisioning the future and then engineering your path towards it. When you see what you want to have happen in your business, you can get insights and ideas into how to build it.   This technique has huge opportunities, but a lot of people aren’t using it. And those that are using it, I find, aren’t using it to the great possibility that they could.  Key areas discussed in this episode:  I first learned this tool at The Coca-Cola Company when I was in the field (yes, it’s a powerful tool that global multinational corporations are using and you can use it, too). I share exactly what we did and how we used it in corporate business planning. 5 critical reasons why you should use visioning in your business. Vision statements are not mission statements. I share how to create your vision statement and orient towards it. It's easier to achieve what you've already seen yourself doing. I talk about why visioning works and makes it easier to create your reality. How to make your goals more compelling and other ways to use visioning in your business to get clarity and attract what you want.  Visioning puts you in a position of clarity, control, and decisiveness — and that leads to the kind of action that grows your business. EP21: Strategic Alliances
On the Profitable Joyful Consulting podcast, I teach you how to increase your profits and enjoy your business more. In this episode, you’ll learn how to grow your business with strategic alliances.  The truth is, there are not many shortcuts in business. You really just have to put in the work. Many people you might think of as overnight successes have been working for seven to ten years before you ever hear of them.  With that being said, this is one of the few methods where you can quickly tap into someone else's audience and put yourself on a path to success faster than doing it on your own.  If you have seven to ten strategic alliances, you could almost not do any other marketing and rely on them as referral sources. (You could, but don’t.) That’s how powerful strategic alliances are, and they’re an incredibly valuable foundation for your business.  Key areas discussed in this episode: Strategic alliances are intentional connections. I share how to choose who you should be forming strategic alliances with (including the most important questions you can ask yourself).   Exactly how to set up strategic alliances that serve your business. How strategic alliances help you develop an abundance mentality. The key part of creating strategic alliances that most consultants miss. Two things that are critical in nurturing your strategic alliances. EP20: Grow Your Business with Case Studies
On the Profitable Joyful Consulting podcast, I teach you how to increase your profits and enjoy your business more. In this episode, you’ll learn how to use case studies to build your business. Last week, I talked about getting results for your clients. This week, I’m sharing about how to promote those results and use them to grow your business.  This is one of my favorite marketing techniques. I call it, “I’ll have what she’s having.” (You might remember this line from the movie “When Harry Met Sally”!) Case studies are detailed, informative stories of your clients’ success. They’re a much less salesy way to share your results, because they don’t just make claims about how amazing you are; instead, they document your results.  Interestingly, potential clients often come away from reading a case study thinking how amazing you are, because the results conveyed it to them. That’s why you need to be creating and sharing case studies for your business.   Key areas covered in this episode: ✍️A case study has credibility. It builds authority and a desire for readers to get those results for themselves. I share the process I use to develop case studies that you can use to grow your business.  ✍️The exact format to use for your success story, including key questions to answer (and even why it matters what name you give your client in the story).  ✍️Case studies can be the core marketing pieces in your business. I share the key thing to make sure your case study does so it’s actually effective.  ✍️The different versions of your case study to create so you get the most out of it. ✍️Your case study shouldn’t feel like a marketing piece. I talk about how to make it feel more entertaining and educational instead.  I answer some questions consultants have asked me about creating case studies (you can submit your own questions for a future episode by leaving me a voice message at enlightenedmarketing.com/podcast).  Case studies are an incredible way to sell your work without selling it (and they’re fun to both read and write).  Listen to this episode to learn how to grow your business through strategic case studies wherever you get podcasts or click here to listen and subscribe: https://enlightenedmarketing.com/podcast/.

EP19: Results that Get More Clients
On the Profitable Joyful Consulting podcast, I teach you how to increase your profits and enjoy your business more. In this episode, you’ll learn how to build your business by getting results for your clients.  Years ago when I was in the third year of my consulting business, I was taking a marketing class. One of the assignments was to write down some success stories. I was horrified to realize that I didn't have any success stories. And the reason I didn't have them? My clients weren’t unhappy, but they weren’t implementing the work. When I followed up with them to find out how things were going, they would say, “Oh, well, ah, you know. Yeah, thanks. That was great. Our priorities have changed. We're working on something else right now.”  Realizing that was both frustrating and eye-opening. I started to dedicate myself to ensuring that if I started a project, it was going to have success at the end of it.  That caused me to learn a lot about what it really takes to get results.  I’m known for helping people add $100K to their business in a single offer. I'm known for turning $400K proposals into $800K yeses. I’m known for helping a client add $600K in the first year of working with me, for helping another who was charging $5,000 per client before and now has just sold another $6,000 per month engagement. I could go on and on. I'm talking about the results that I'm getting for my clients and that my clients are getting through working with me. That is what builds my business, and it does more than almost any marketing messaging that I can do.  Key areas discussed in this episode: Three essential ways to get better results for your clients.
