Two Big Announcements Between Season 3 and Season 4, episode 169
The Practically Speaking MOM Podcast recently entered its fourth year and finished up our third season of the podcast!  Have you ever stood in a pool with your young child on the side of the pool in their water wings, held out your arms and said, "Come on.  You can do it.  Jump in!  I won't let you go under."   It is scary for a child to LEAP to a new level of ability, even though we parents know they are ready for the next steps.God is a lot like that with us.  He knows we are ready for growth, but we are timid and fearful.  That's where TRUST comes in!  This week on the podcast Val Harrison, The Practically Speaking MOM shares about TWO BIG LEAPS OF FAITH that God is calling her to with the Practically Speaking MOM Ministry.  In episode 169, she shares about these two big leaps and encourages intentional parents to also be full of faith and to leap forward in whatever God is calling them toward as well.Would you like to GIVE to the Practically Speaking MOM Ministry?  Help improve the tech side of recording for the podcast and also help the ministry to afford some very part time help in editing and other office tasks so that Val can focus on content of her fifth book and also content for SEASON 4 of the Practically Speaking MOM Podcast! The "Dominant Director" child you are raising is going to be a leader.  They were born to lead. The question is, what kind of leader are they going to be?  Will they lead by power and control, intimidation and trampling others?  Or will they learn how to be humble and how to treat all people with dignity? Will they learn to value all the other personalities around them? You will learn critical relationship, dynamics, and communication strategies for BLENDING BETTER and BRIGHTER as a cohesive family, even if you are each very different from one another. We're in a four-week series about family dynamics and personality differences called, "Here We Go through Uniquely United 2.0."  It's an eye-opening opportunity to learn how to improve family relationships by discovering the differences between you in how you think. We're not trying to diminish that personality type, but at the same time, we want them to learn about themselves and be honing their personality to make it something that can mesh with the rest of the family,God has called us to love one another. People-Focused vs Task-Focused Family Members: Uniquely United series, 164
Do you have some family members who just want to have fun and other family members that are militant about tasks?  How do we help these two very different people blend and mesh and shine TOGETHER in the family unit? Episode 164 of the Practically Speaking MOM Podcast is here to help!Rich joins Val for "People-Focused vs Task-Focused Family Members" in the Uniquely United Series, equipping parents to identify different characteristics in our family members, helping all of you to thrive and mesh and blend TOGETHER.  Part of Rich's role at his employment is to train trainers and some of that training involves personality training - increasing their empathy toward personalities that are different from themselves, yes, but also teaching these trainers how to COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY with different personality types, how to RELATE and build bridges with those they are training, no matter their unique characteristics. To do that you have to learn to READ PEOPLE - that is called EMOTIONAL APTITUDE.   We hope that this there, Uniquely United, will help to grow the emotional aptitude in your family. People's characteristics are not always obvious and do not always remain the same. However, we can still learn so much by studying ourselves and one another to help us relate to one another more effectively, reduce conflict, increase harmony, and learn how to highlight the unique value of each individual within the family unit.   What are some ways to identify whether you are people or task focused:  -what activities and environment fills you up, energizes you, makes you feel alive?  What deflates you, depletes you, demotivates you?  - what do you look forward to or dread?  EVERYONE has some TASK and some RELATIONAL aspect to them.  You could really think of each of these characteristics as a sliding scale with TASK being on one end of the scale and PEOPLE or RELATIONSHIPS begin at the other end of the scale.  Some people are going to obviously fall on one end of that scale but there are some people who are quite balanced between the two.  Our ultimate goal is to be the masterpiece God designed us to be.   Episode Mentioned in this Episode: Episode 20 - Family Spontaneous Friday and Sketchy SaturdayOther Unique This is a listener supported podcast. Uniquely United: Foundation First, Episode 162
Today in episode 162 we lay the foundation for the Uniquely United series in the Practically Speaking MOM: Intentional Mom, Strong Family Podcast.Note from Val Harrison, The Practically Speaking MOM, about episode 162.If you have listened to this podcast for a while, you know that I pray about every topic and every episode and really seek to listen to God's leading of what we air and when we air it.  Well, God has given me some direction for how to proceed with our occasional series Uniquely United.  We began this series a few months ago with part 1. My husband Rich joined me on the podcast for us to talk about Fast-Paced and Slow-Paced people and how to navigate having both types in your home.  We have also recorded the next stepsin the series that is about People-Focused vs Task-Focused family members.  When that episode airs you will learn how to handle parenting a child that is opposite of you. Maybe you are task-focused, and they are people-focused. Or perhaps you are a free spirit who likes to enjoy whimsy and spontaneity, but your child likes to be regimented and scheduled.  How do we handle these differences within the family unit in a way that helps us all to flourish?  As we prepared to air that episode for all of you, in my prayer time for the podcast, I felt God was telling me that we need to BACK UP.  Let's do this more solidly, from the foundation first. That's what today is.  Today in episode 162 we lay the foundation for the Uniquely United series.  You may have actually already heard this conversation, way back in episode 8.  One of the things we did in that episode was to discuss what ONENESS in marriage means to us.  While we were talking about ONENESS we also talked about the concept of UNIQUELY UNITED.  We are going to back up and listen to that conversation now for two reasons: First, because this conversation is a great description of uniquely united, we want you to hear it again. and secondly, a family can be so much more uniquely united if the marriage is committed to that paradigm as well. So, if you are married, begin there first, in helping your family to be uniquely united.  IF YOU ARE NOT MARRIED, your child may be some day and you want them to have a vision of what a healthy marriage looks like. This episode can help with that also. SO, let's revisit this very early conversation in the Practically Speaking MOM Podcast as we set a strong foundation for being a fam This is a listener supported podcast. Save Your Sanity One Hour a Week Meal Prep from Lasso Your Life Series, 161
It's important to equip our kids for life. One way we do that is by involving them in cooking. However, I was uncomfortable with my kids working with raw meat, so I needed a plan.  Years ago, I came up with this "Save Your Sanity: One Hour a Week Meal Prep Plan" so my kids could cook meals but not deal so much with meat.  This plan ended up saving me loads of time AND saved us lots of money also.  Let's jump in to our second week of The Practically Speaking MOM's Guide to Saving Time and Money in the Kitchen.Click on this BLOG POST to see pics and additional insight for this episode:  BLOG POST for episode 161*MISFITS MARKET - CLICK TO SAVE $10 at MISFITS MARKET & it also allows me to save $10 when you use this link.  Misfits Market is a subscription service for ORGANIC GROCERIES.  It automatically creates a grocery order for you each week of about $35 and then you can click on your cart and change it or cancel it or postpone it.  It's organic fruits, veggies, and lots of other healthy foods.  I have been using them for about nine months.  It's called "misfits" because it's the imperfect looking produce that wouldn't get chosen at the store but is still good.  And the good news is, if I'm ever not pleased with the quality of an item, I just jump online in my account and click on that item and ask for the cost of it to be refunded.  I have never had any trouble getting it refunded right away.Top 10 Ways to Save on Groceries plus meal hacks, money hacks, and cleaning hacks by the Practically Speaking MOM, from the Lasso Your Life on-going occasional series, episode 160What's coming Next on the Practically Speaking MOM Podcast:"Before Uniquely United"Want more from the Practically Speaking MOM?  Visit her website www.PracticallySpeakingMOM.com for blog, books, podcast, resources.Join her Facebook community: Intenti This is a listener supported podcast. Ten $ Saving Grocery, Meals, and Natural Cleaning Hacks by the Practically Speaking MOM, from the Lasso Your Life series, episode 160
Feeding a family of nine can be expensive.  I learned to SAVE MONEY ON GROCERIES and SAVE MONEY ON CLEANERS.  This podcast is bursting with mom hacks for meals, groceries, and cleaning.  HI, I'm Val Harrison, the Practically Speaking MOM.  I am passionate about helping intentional moms to build strong families.  A big key in having TIME and ENERGY to focus on what really matters with your family is to get some systems in place for the "have-to"s in the momlife.   This week I am excited to begin a new mini-series- The Practically Speaking MOM's Guide to Saving Money and Time in the Kitchen.  And this HELP continues next week when I share my "Save Your Sanity, One Hour Per Week Meal Prep Plan."  If you need to save money on groceries, save time in the kitchen, and use some more natural cleaning alternatives, you are going to love episode 160 & 161 of the Practically Speaking MOM: Intentional Mom Strong Family Podcast.ITEMS MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:*BOKA TOOTHPASTE - I've been using BOKA toothpaste for the last three years. I'm a really picky toothpaste person. *I want it to be CHEMICAL-FREE  *I want my mouth and teeth to feel REALLY CLEAN Those are my two main reasons, but I also have allergies to most toothpastes. I get blisters in my mouth with almost every kind, even many of the more natural brands. BOKA has been the only option that didn't give me blisters, was chemical-free, and leaves my mouth feeling really clean. A bonus is that one tube lasts me a super long time (I think about a year and it may actually be longer because I think I'm on my third tube and still have a lot left).  Here's a link that will get you 15% off and me 15% off too.  http://bokaoralcare.refr.cc/valharrison   *MISFITS MARKET -  CLICK TO SAVE $10 at MISFITS MARKET & it also allows me to save $10 when you use this link. It's called "misfits" because it's the imperfect looking produce that wouldn't get chosen at the store b This is a listener supported podcast. Help Middle School & Teen Girls to Grow before Guys, Walk in Purpose, Live as a Leader in this Mom/Daughter Conversation about Abby's #1 Book Pick for Girls, Ep 159
Would you love to see your middle school or teen girl become more fully-devoted to living a life of growth, courage, patience, purpose, resilience?  You're going to enjoy this fast-paced mother/daughter talk about being focused on GROWTH and LIVING a meaningful life rather than preoccupied with romance too young.  There is time for romance in life AFTER growth.  We want to help our kids to become confident, at peace, focused, aware of their value, and fully-devoted to God's best for their life FIRST, before romance.  Our kids/teens don't need a romantic relationship to help them FEEL significant.  They are significant, valuable, and have a purpose, but they need to KNOW it and live it BEFORE they are ready for a relationship.  This conversation about a book that had huge impact on Abby's life, just might have the same impact on your teen or pre-teen's life also.  Val Harrison, The Practically Speaking MOM, brings on her 6th child, 18-year-old Abby, for an honest and lively mother daughter conversation. We saved the best episode for last in this series of mother/daughter talks.  As parents we take so much time and effort on things like academics for our kids' future., but what about their future relationships? How can we equip them better for some of the most important relationships of their lives?  Little by little as a parent, I have learned to better walk with my kids through developing their self-worth and navigating their heart. My 18 yr old daughter, Abby, and I have been doing a series of talks on guiding your heart, navigating relationships, and knowing your self-worth.  This week we go over Abby's #1 book pick for middle school and teen girls to GROW before GUYS.  The book is called Lady in Waiting: Becoming God's Best While Waiting for Mr. Right, but the truth is this book is not about WAITING for anything, it's about REFOCUSING on the right priorities FIRST.To hear our discussion about This is a listener supported podcast.
