Passing the Torch: Teaching Nonviolence to the Next Generation
Imagine being 17 years old in today's world: you can't remember a time when you did not have internet, cell phones, video games, or social media. For your whole life you've been bombarded with music, movies, and images that were banned for our generation. Violence, crime, sex, and drugs are glorified and romanticized on TV, radio, gaming, and film-- and all are just one click away. There has never been a time in your existence where there was peace in the world, and for as long as you can remember our country has been at war... Who is teaching the next generation the timeless, universal laws and principles of icons like Dr. King, Gandhi, Mandela, and Maya Angelou? Tune in this week as we discuss how we can pass the torch to the next generation-- because they ARE our future. Multi platinum, grammy nominated hip hop producer Kevin Khao Cates and international speaker and peace activist Rev. Carolyn Wilkins will join us and co-create SOLUTIONS in order to heal our wounded world.

Is Prison Reform in America Just a Pipe Dream? Part 2
It seems as if the whole world has gone mad... Bad news dominates the media, and stress and tension are on the rise. Wars abroad and economic concerns here at home lead the headlines. Heated election debates further divide the country, and everyone is taking sides-- politically, racially, and religiously. On top of all that there is a faith crisis in America, and people are becoming more and more disillusioned... Behind the scenes there is a growing and often unseen problem: overcrowded prisons, younger and younger inmates, fueled by an epidemic of addiction and drug related crime. Is there an answer? Is true prison reform and safer communities just a pipe dream in America? This week we will delve further into this very important issue with a man who is on the front lines of this battle for peace. Tune in this week as we discuss real solutions with Jay Neal, Executive Director for the Governor's Office of Transition, Support and Re-entry for the State of Georgia. The Power of Peace!

Am I Really My Brother's Keeper?
Most of us would agree that there is reason for concern with today's young people. Like the generations that preceded us, we can all say that we just don't understand what they are watching or listening to. But it's more than that. People can argue that it's always been this way, the only difference is that we have never had the 24 hour media coverage/access that we have now to see all the bad news. But we know that it's more than that. Too many young people are losing their way, and we can't just keep blaming, social media, video games, and hip hop music-- this generation lacks role models. This week Power of Peace Radio takes on one of the biggest issues our country faces today: The Absent Father... Whether in the inner cities or the suburbs; whether in the hood or the gated communities; whether through divorce, single parenthood, or a father who never leaves the home, but many times is still not there. This week: Fulton County Chairman John Eaves joins us-- tune in to Peace.

The Anatomy of A Dream
When you ask a young person today the question What do you want to do, and who do you want to be? Many of them pause and stammer and have to try to think of an answer to that all-important question. A better question would be: who ARE you, and what is your unique gift? The meaning of life is finding out what your special gift is. The purpose of life is to share it with the world. Many of this young generation today are drifting along unaware of their gifts and completely on autopilot when it comes to their dreams-- more of a whatever mentality. This week our guest is Singer and Actor Keith Robinson from the hit film Dreamgirls as well as many other acting accomplishments. He will discuss what it took to follow his dream to Hollywood and the passion and drive it took to succeed. We need to help our young brothers and sisters begin to dream and find out what makes them COME ALIVE. Passion hides in our unique gift. Tune in and join the conversation: The Power of Peace Radio.

Are young people today willing to pay the price?
Today we live in a fast food society. People want and expect things right NOW. Young people are being raised by media and technology that allows instant access to practically anything they desire with a simple keystroke. Movies, music, social media, and gaming make the American Dream look so easy and cheap. More and more youth are choosing entertainment over hard work and discipline, and they are finding fewer and fewer true role models to emulate. This week NBA Star Dennis 3D Scott joins Power of Peace Radio to speak about his journey that led him to Naismith Prep Player of the Year 1987, ACC Player of the Year 1990, and NBA All-Rookie First Team 1991. In 1995–96 Scott set an NBA single-season three-point field goal tally with 267, which was later broken by Ray Allen. He also set the NBA record for most three pointers made in a single game with 11 in 1996, which was later broken by Kobe Bryant. We will talk about big dreams, sacrifice and paying the price for victory. Tune in.

Is Prison Reform in America a Pipe Dream?
Prison reform has become a hot topic in America. Two and a half million people are locked up in the land of the free. For the first time in our nation's history, over half of our prison population are twenty five years old or younger. One third go into the system for nonviolent offenses, but two thirds come out having learned to be violent. Eighty percent have been convicted of a crime where drugs and alcohol played a part in their offense. Prison has become big business and the war on drugs fuels what appears to be a broken system built to fail, and where recidivism is on the rise... Is there a real solution? This week my guest is Warden Jason Bunting, a prison reform rising star. His progressive programs and policies are changing the correctional system in Ohio toward rehabilitation. Over ninety five percent of the currently incarcerated are coming home one day-- to OUR communities. The question is: in what condition will they return? Don't miss this episode of Power of Peace Radio.

The Faith Crisis in America
This week we discuss America's Faith Crisis with thought leader Michael Wear. Michael is a leading expert and strategist at the intersection of faith, politics and American public life. As one of President Obama's Ambassadors to America's Believers Michael directed faith outreach for President Obama’s historic 2012 re-election campaign. Michael was also one of the youngest White House staffers in modern American history: he served in the White House faith-based initiative during President Obama’s first term, where he led evangelical outreach and helped manage The White House’s engagement on religious and values issues, including adoption and anti-human trafficking efforts. Today, Michael is a sought-after consultant helping religious organizations, political organizations, businesses and others effectively navigate the rapidly changing American religious and political landscape.

Cops and Communities: Bridging the Divide
With recent events in Ferguson, Baltimore, Cleveland, and New York City the divide between law enforcement and civilians seems to be getting wider and the tension is rising. Communities are becoming more afraid and police officers are on high alert. What is the answer? What are real solutions? Remember the days when cops walked a beat and actually knew the neighborhood? Remember the days when the community saw police as Peace Officers? Many believe those days are gone forever. This week's guest is making a difference in his community as a police officer, community affairs official and a pastor. We will also be hearing from one of the original inmates that helped begin the Power of Peace Project inside our first POPP maximum security prison five years ago-- they called him Grimlock but now he is a returning citizen and on the road to rebuilding his life in the free world. Since then thousands of convicts across the nation are taking a stand for peace. Tune in and talk real SOLUTIONS.

The Assault on the African American Male from Poverty to Prisons
In this episode of Power of Peace Radio we will focus on the current cycle of generational poverty, crime and youth violence that is rising in our communities. But we will also tackle the tough issues of a system that seems to be set up to fail, and that is fed by young, poor, black, white and Latino youth, largely by the war on drugs and what comes from it... We will look for solutions with thought leaders and change agents Antonio Boyd and Warden Charles Hinsley. We will discuss issues such as: What are some of the community solutions that can stem the tied of situations like Ferguson, Baltimore, North Charleston, and Cleveland. Why do high rates of recidivism continue to occur when crime rates have not significantly increased in the past 10 to 20 years? Has the President and Congress done enough to focus on these issues? What is the role of the Faith Community to solve these problems? Tune in and join the conversation with DOERS, not just complainers. The Power of Peace!

Passing the Torch to the Next Generation
Today's youth are becoming more and more distracted, disengaged, and disconnected from the generations that paved the way and paid the price for the freedoms and opportunities that they have today. The civil rights struggle, Dr. King's Dream, and the heroes that preceded them are largely unknown to these young teens and pre-teens growing up in the land of the free. When the civil rights icons pass on who will carry the torch? This week we will have civil rights leader and national peace activist Reverend Markel Hutchins on our show to discuss the current state of affairs in our nation as it relates to generational poverty, mass incarceration, and the threats to both inner city and suburban youth. Don't miss this episode of the Power of Peace Radio with Kit Cummings and Rev. Hutchins-- the children are our future.

Raising Teens in Today's Hip Hop Culture
Today young people are being bombarded with more information at a higher rate of speed than any generation that has preceded them. News, video games, movies and music provide an ever-increasing flow of powerful messaging-- and the majority of it is negative. Hours a day of social media, gaming, and especially music are programming the minds of our teens, while many of them are unaware that it is even happening. Information which used to be more subliminal for the previous generation is now blatant and graphic: sex, drugs and violence is what sells and our youth are consuming it in mass quantities... Do you know what your kids are listening to? On this episode of Power of Peace Radio we will speak with Speech Thomas, Grammy award-winning hip hop artist and founder of the band Arrested Development. Speech will be discussing his successful music career and how his music is changing the world for peace. We will also discuss how YOU can get involved in the conversation with your teens.
