Deer Isle is an island off the coast of Maine and is made up of two communities: Deer Isle and Stonington. The island is home to an interesting mix of opposites - the locals and the people from away - because of its three main industries: tourism, creative economy, and fishing. This is not another tourist stop in "vacationland". This is a working town. Stonington, with a year round population of only 1300 people, was the number one grossing port in the nation for lobster last year. But it’s getting harder and harder to maintain their livelihood.
