Still at it with the Smoke Free Media crew out in Houston and today we have the lovely Ms Alexis known as Lex sitting down with us. Being passionate about mental health, Lex was able to bless us with knowledge and understanding on why mental health is important and how we in the Black community need to recognize it as such. So I'd like to take a minute, just sit right there... while I tell you all about my thoughts from a town called Bel Air. Well that's a lie. I'm in Hollywood. My black ass can't afford Bel Air. Yet. Lol. But anyway, I felt the need to respond to the weekend's going's ons and I decided to do so. So sit back, crack a bottle and have a sip wit me as I give my thoughts on the situation. Change the Channel: 5 Years Since the Acquittal of George Zimmerman
What's going on family!?! A quick Change the Channel today to remember the senseless murder of 17 year old Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman. It was on July 13, 2013 that Zimmerman was acquitted and we all were reminded that walking home while black was STILL a crime in America. So today on the 5 year anniversary of this event, I just wanted to briefly touch on the life and times of Zimmerman since. And remember, that at the time of his murder, many referred to young Trayvon as a thug. Geraldo Rivera was famously quoted as saying, "If you dress like a thug, you'll be treated like a thug." Change the Channel: Discussing the Life and Death of XXXtentacion (Episode 2)
What's going on family!! Back again with another dope Change the Channel session. Today I discussed the life and the tragic passing of Florida rapper XXXtentacion. His death was surrounded by a lot of mixed emotions and feelings across social media. So I decided to shed a little of my perspective on the situation. And as usual, I went Live on my Facebook page and got a lot of really great comments and feedback from my Facebook audience. Michael Pulley - Actor, Model, Fitness Guru (Episode 28)
What's good family!!! Welcome back to another dope ass episode of Poolside Chats. Man I am truly excited for today's episode. We have Michael Pulley who is an actor, a model and all around fitness expert sit down with us to discuss his journey from Columbus, OH to Hollywood, CA. The great thing that I loved about today's chat was that Mike was in no way shy about his down times. He was very open and honest about hitting hard times all the way down to sleeping in his car!! Showering at the gym!!! Hollering at chicks just to have somewhere to stay!!! And this story isn't only about the bad though. Mike bounced back stronger than ever and competed in various fitness competitions, acted in tv shows, commercials and movies... and is a lead character in the upcoming Call of Duty video game! You heard me correctly. He is IN the game. So sit back and listen as Mike describes his never ending journey toward success and why love and never losing sight of his relationship with God kept him strong through it all. Follow Mike's success and celebrate his wins and losses on IG: @MichaelPulley and make sure you pick up that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 in October!!!! As always, thank you for listening! Jimmie Maggette (Part 2)(Episode 25)
What's going on family!!! Back again with another episode and today you are in for a treat! My bro Jimmie Maggette comes on to discuss his LA nightlife roots and how he transitioned out of the night life, and back into church life. Originally from Chicago, Jimmie talks about his younger brother being drafted into the NBA, being traded out of nowhere and ending up in LA. Him and a friend, Shane Mooney came together to form the promoter crew, "Supreme Team" and went on to bring together some of the biggest and hottest club in Hollywood history. This episode went about twice as long as my normal episode, because once Jimmie talked about his transition from promoter to Elder, we kept the conversation going to the NBA. So today I'm just giving you part 2 where we discuss that NBA, the NCAA, playoff predictions and where Lebron may land. Check out last weeks episode so that you can hear all about his come up from Chicago to LA and getting back into the church. Keep in contact with Jimmie by going to www.JimmieMaggette.com or by following him on Twitter and Instagram @JimmieMaggette. As always, thank you for listening! Please subscribe and like! Change the Channel: Defending Against Verbal Assault (Episode 1)
Family!!!! Appreciate y'all tuning into this episode. If you've been riding with me you know that Poolside Chats is a show based on bringing LA's dream chasers and goal diggers to you. But I also from time to time just want to rant about whatever subject I happen to feel like ranting about. So from here on out when I do that... I've decided to "Change the Channel". So I'm excited to bring you the very first episode in the Change the Channel series. In this issue I discuss folk who verbally assault people with the expectation that there should be no repercussions for the reckless words that they speak. I went Live on my Facebook page and got a lot of really great comments and feedback from my Facebook audience. White People Calling the Police When No Crime Has Been Committed (Bonus Episode 10)
Hello hello hello Podcast fam!!! Ya boy MTV is back with another short bonus episode. Today is all about the recent string of white people calling the police on people of calling for absolutely no reason! I know you are all familiar with the Starbucks incident in Philly where two black men were arrested for simply waiting for a business associate. And the Oakland incident where Jennifer Schulte called the police on a black family for barbecuing has given us some of the most epic memes in recent history. But did you know about the black women in Philly who had the police called on them for golfing too slowly? Or the black men in a New Jersey LA Fitness who had the police called on them for working out? Or the black graduate student at Yale who had the police called on her for sleeping? Checking out of an AirBnB. Moving into your own home. Shopping. Going on a college tour. Eating. And more!!! These are all reasons that people of color have had police called on them... in the last 30 DAYS!!!!! This has to stop. And it has to be called out! The employees involved at both the Starbucks and the LA Fitness were fired. Expose these racists and let the world know who they are!! As always, thank you for listening! Please subscribe and like! But this isn't my usual model friend, rap guy, actor homie, Hollywood socialite, etc. Today I sit down with my great friend Krystal who has over 20 years of experience in her field of being a psych nurse. She came on to grace us with talks about behavioral health, mental health and substance abuse.
